Ordered yesterday the cricut maker 3, ever since it’s my dream to have a cricut cutting machine but hesitant to buy because I am busy with other responsibilities. A friend got the explore and I fell in love and impulsive bought the joy, maybe 8 months later I got the explore air 2. It crapped out 6 months later, Cricut replaced it. My replacement crapped out just past the one year, but gotta say their customer service was excellent they gave me a discount on a brand new maker, so far so good.

I have both the Explore Air 2 and Cricut Joy Xtra. Since I got my Xtra, I use it more than my Air 2 because of its compact style and versatility. I don’t make a lot of the larger projects, so my Xtra works just fine for what I need.

@, it depends on what kind of things they want to make. The Xtra uses a 8 and 1/2 in by 11 mat. If they want to make larger items like signs or t-shirts, you might want to go with the Explore Air 2. I make mostly jewelry out of faux leather, Christmas ornaments, accessories, and smaller items. While there is not a faux leather setting on the Xtra, but there are videos here on KZbin where you can make your own setting. The Xtra also can do Print Then Cut to make stickers and other print then cut items. Hope this helps!

Hello!! I would love to know your opinion, I am new to this world, this Christmas I was given the Joy Xtra 😍, but we saw that it is the same price as the Explore Air 3, do you recommend that we make the change? I am not making any projects yet nor do I have anything in mind yet, I am just thinking about it because of its price, since it is the same perhaps the larger one has more advantage? @, in my opinion, it depends on what you are going to make. Because I make earrings and small accessories, I love the Cricut Joy Xtra. The xtra can do print then cut like the bigger machines to make stickers. You can also make a setting to cut thin faux leather. If you want to make larger pieces like signs, t-shirts, etc, I would probably go with the Explore Air series. They use a 12x12 mat where the Xtra can only cut on an 8 and a half by 11 mat. I have learned in the year I have had mine, the xtra also cannot cut thicker faux leather or real leather. I started with an air 2 so I use that if I need to cut the thicker leather.

I'm thinking of getting one, just don't which one... I want to be able to cut out stencils using 6mil Blank Stencil Material , the stencil sheets are 12 x 12 inches but I can cut them down if need be. I want to cut stencils for my mandala dot paintings.. which one would you suggest, as I have no clue. Thanks

@@TrishAnne4468 any of the machines can cut that material. The cricut maker is going to be the more powerful machine with less need to upgrade however. But the explore series machines will cut that film as well

Your video was super helpful, thank you. I have a joy and I love it. I've found that my favourite thing to make is cards using cut and draw. However, it is slow and I want to able to make multiple cards and also stickers - would the joy xtra be enough of an upgrade or would another machine be better? Many thanks!

Can the joy extra cut light fabric if I put the fabric cutter in it?

There’s not a fabric blade for the joy machines. I have not tried cutting fabric with it but if that’s one of your main materials you want to cut I would go with the maker or the explore which have tools for fabric

I bought a Cricut a few years ago. I think it might have been the Air 2 but I don't remember. I ended up returning it because I do a lot of Appliques and it was suggested that the Brother Scan N cut would be better so I bought it. It didn't turn out to work as well as I had hoped so I mostly used it to cut vinyl and iron decals on tote bags. I can no longer get my mat to feed into my machine and the cost to replace the mat is way more than I'd like to spend so I'm thinking I'll buy a Cricut again only I can't decide between the Explorer 3 or maker 3. I create a lot of bag making projects and want to be able to make reusable templates using Acrylic. Can I cut out Acrylic with the Explorer or do I need the Maker?

You can only cut thin very bendable plastics with cricut

@@karenmalouin4611 smart material is made to only work with the 3 series machines. It is 13 inches wide and it is awfully overpriced and poor quality. I would not recommend the product anyways I will always recommend using better materials than cricut brand materials. They are some of the worst I have ever used in my life.

I need a machine for repetitive cutting of the same shape. I do a lot of Sunday school & VBS projects using construction paper; can the Cricuts handle construction paper? Which machine would you recommend for me? Thanks!

Construction paper is a little tricky with most of these types of machines because it’s a very fiber heavy paper. It sticks to the mats really bad and it doesn’t tend to cut very well. If you could use cardstock instead it would work perfectly

Are you using the card mat? If not I would switch to that but it’s likely just not on the regular mat flat enough it needs to be super flat to fit

HELLLLLPPP!!!!!! I just today received a Joy Extra. In my excitement to get it set up & out of habit, I used a different email address than the one I use for my Cricut Design Space profile. I did a couple of test cuts before I realized my mistake. When attempting to set it up in the correct account, I can’t get past the T’s&C’s page. I can’t click the box to accept them & finalize the setup. Although CDS lists the Joy Extra as one of my machines, it won’t send a project for cutting because it hasn’t been set up. I tried to run the setup in my online profile but it thinks the machine is cutting a project. I’ve done all the technical troubleshooting I can think of…. Unplugging the machine, forgetting it in Bluetooth, uninstalling/reinstalling CDS, closing/restarting my iPad, deleting the wrong account. Nothing works. Does anyone have any advice, please?
