How long does the silky willow hold it's leaves in the fall in a northern setting?

Good video! Made me order some more. :). What it I used one of those 2 augers that go on a drill to drill the hole and and then back fill around the cutting? No compaction that way.... Thanks

Hi Brian, yes that is a great way to loosen the soil and allow that cutting room to expand its' root system! Also, we will be having a video soon talking about different tools you can use to plant the cuttings!

I would like to plant some Silky Dogwood in a wooded environment. Our 13 acres is land locked and we have to walk an easement to get there. While walking the easement, we scare off many deer. Our property is a rectangle with the taller sides West to East. The easement two-track is on the West side. Could I plant them along the West side? They would get sunlight, just not full sun.

Silky Dogwood will grow in these areas as long as they get some sunlight. I would try planting on a sunny day where you can see the sunlight reaching the ground, and that is where I would plant the cuttings. The silky dogwood is offered as a 2' cutting which is great for planting in these areas because they have more budding potential and reach lower moisture because they are a longer cutting. They also offer a ton of browse for deer and rabbits year round which deer need in their bedding areas.

@devouring2772 we will have more cuttings available next spring. We start harvest after January 1st and they will arrive via mail in the spring. I wouldn't plant any cuttings this year yet since winter in quickly approaching.
