Great test Blake. There’s another type of thermometer you may not know about. My hubby & I are both chefs and work within the vulnerable persons food guidelines & laws. (HACCP if you know about this area). Temperature control during cooking and storing food is measured consistently throughout the process with a probe thermometer. We have to rely on accurate temperature so not to make anyone sick. They are inexpensive & in my opinion the best to use. We calibrate them ourself, but it’s probably overkill. Easy way to test if any thermometer is accurate: boil water on the stove til a bubbling boil. Temp should read 100c. Tip of probe should always be in the centre of the mass you are testing. You can also check by testing the centre of a frozen tub of ice cream (or water but I love ice cream!) it should be 0c or lower. Please don’t worry about what people say about your hands. As long as you know they are clean, stuff them. Some people have nothing better to do then make negative comments 🤯❤️🇦🇺

Thanks Blake. Thermometers for aquariums drive me crazy. Everyone I have whether it be stick on, digital, gun, etc are always different. Why can't anyone just make a good thermometer that works?

I'm actually sad you had to come to the point of putting gloves on. Ignore people man. You work with fish tanks and animals. Your fingers will never look like a models. We are all in that same tank. None of my two fingers look the same my man. Keep up the good videos.

Hey Blake! Do people honestly complain about you using bare hands?! They'd hate me then, as I never worry about cross contamination from hands lol. For one to be completely safe from that you would need a complete set of equipment for each tank.

Yes every time people complain about seeing my finger nails 🤣 even when i clean and trim them 5 mins before the video

I was thinking the same! I go from tank to tank without washing my hands or wearing gloves and haven't had any issues yet. I share a lot of plants and fish between tanks anyway so it would be a waste of time and materials for me. Anyway, love the content and information Blake provides for us. I've learned quite a lot watching his videos and never noticed the condition of his fingernails because who cares? Haha

Hey mate its a saratoga leichardti, pretty good but definitely the boss of the tank and did a bit of superficial damage early on letting the other fish know that

Sticker thermometers.. Geez! (vs my floating thermometer) On my 55 gallon, only indicates to me - whether or not my heater dies or malfunctions. With the thick glass, it reads high when the room is warm.. And low, overnight. At least they are often free with aquarium heaters. Lol.

The radar gun is highly inaccurate. Good for cooking where a few degrees is ok, but when it comes to fish it won't work well.

we have a 5 gallon tank w/ 2 thermometers in opposite corners... its not uncommon for them to be about 3 degrees F off from each other. That doesn't seem possible in such a small tank.

@@BlakesAquatics I'm pretty sure its alcohol... I just thought I'd let you know as if you break a mercury one it's much worse than a "red" alcohol one.

The thing to remember with IR thermometers is that they only measure the temperature of the surface the beam hits, they don't penetrate deeper like a digital probe will. Oh and your nails need a manicure 🤣
