As far as suspension goes, don't waste your time or money with lowering springs or "coil sleeves." Just go for a set of coilovers. Pick up a set of Fortune Auto 500s (they're made in Virginia!). They are really affordable, can be custom valved to the spring rate you choose, and are top quality. I have a set on my Sileighty and I absolutely love them. On that note however, in order to eliminate camber, especially at the rear, 240s require adjustable suspension arms. I have a full GKTech set on the back of my car, with SPL front tension rods, and have zero complaints so far. Look forward to seeing where you go with this build!

@hypocycloidiaspora8 жыл бұрын
With Coilovers, don't go overboard on spring rate - the most common coilovers have ridiculously hard springs, I made that mistake myself and it's not fun. I can sit on my fender directly above the front wheel and the body doesn't move a millimeter - it's so stiff it makes everything else on the car rattle. Get the softest spring rate you can find, and it will probably still be 2X or 3X stiffer than stock. 8KG / 6KG springs are too stiff for street use, if your streets have potholes of any kind, expansion joints, etc.
@moparmagoo8 жыл бұрын
I believe my FA500s are sprung at 7k/6k and they ride smooth. It really all comes down to personal preference, though. Running proper sized tires with decently meaty sidewalls takes a lot of the "hit" away from bumps as well. My car is on 235/45-17 front and 255/40-17 rear, rides like a dream.

If you want to take it for a track day you won't be bored or needing more, or if you just want to take it out on the twisties like in your video it's more then enough. By all motor I mean cams, exhaust including header, intake including emissions delete, lightened flywheel and clutch, and an LED. Car is balanced for what ever your mood, track, drift, cruise.

Really excited to see where this build goes! As far as braking & stuff goes, I'd recommend going with a set of EBC Ultimax or Sport rotors, followed with a set of EBC Yellow Stuff brake pads, or a set of Hawk HPS brake pads if you're wanting to go with something a little cheaper, but still offer great performance. The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 is a great tire to consider if you're wanting to keep the cost down, too! Hope some of this helps!

Hey Kyle. Congrats on the 240! It's really a beautiful car. I actually have almost the exact same one except mine's the XE version. I just wanted to give you some of my thoughts about the things you said in the video. As far as what you said about suspension, I absolutely think that coil-overs are going to be your best bet: being able to adjust your ride height and spring rates is a huge plus when you're running after market wheels. Now for what you said about the engine. Both our cars came stock with the KA24E engine. Its the single cam 2.4 liter engine that came before the KA24DE which was in pretty much all the other USDM 240's after 1990. People seem to like to shit on the single cam but its actually a pretty great motor. Online there are engine upgrade parts such as pistons and cams (I mean...cam) etc. another great thing about the KA24E is that it comes stock with forged rods. KA24 motors can be incredibly fun motors when boosted. Which is why I personally think that is the route you should go. The only actual other upgrades you'll need to do before boosting safely (Depending on how much boost you want to run) is fuel pump, injectors, and MAF. And of course a tune. With all of those things I just said in the car you could easily run 15lbs of boost and push 330hp. Now i know you said you wanted about 230 so theres actually a good solution to that. CXracing actually makes a kit for the ka24e for $1000 that bolts straight on with no modification (no maf, tune, fuel upgrades) and it's dyno'd to make 230hp straight out of the box. But obliviously you really should get a tune and fuel upgrades. You could very easily daily it running on 9lbs of boost. Also keep those automatic seat belts. They're awesome. (PS. Those seatbelts have an unlimited lifetime warranty from Nissan) Thanks for reading if you actually read all of this Congrats again Kyle great video!

@illumination3578 жыл бұрын
I would build the engine in the car and then turbo it. That would be the cheapest route. You should check out those carbon fiber wraps they look amazing!
@matth71188 жыл бұрын
Kyle, I went a similar route with my 240. At the time it was either put in an SR20 and a few bolt-ons or build the KA. I wanted more power than the SR can reasonably offer and something a little different. I built the KA and put something I would NOT recommend on it.. a T70. Way too much turbo, and didn't spool till 5k then it was a matter of holding on. But the motor took the power without a hiccup. With a reasonably sized turbo, say a GT30 or GT35, it is an excellent powertrain, and keeps the originality you want. But a couple things.. 1) Find a tuner first. I tried a mail order tune and it was never really right. It didn't want to idle. They can tune for the injectors/airflow at full power, but outside the powerband requires some seat time, and I highly recommend investing in it. 2) The brakes. The previous owner put in a Z32 front setup, and in such a light car they lock up very quickly, making them more dangerous than the stockers. I think with a good set of pads and some high quality rotors you will have plenty of braking power for 350 or so horses. I like the idea of painting/wrapping the roof gloss black and keeping it mostly stock (or at least original). Good luck with the build, I'll be watching your progress!

Sean Slater aftermarket support for turbos..does that have anything to do with the SR? No.. Aftermarket support for turbos..what does that even mean. Are you talking about the availability of exhaust manifolds, ready to preform for simple t3/4 setups. Xccesive makes one, spot on. It's like $300 bucks. Don't wanna pay up? Make one yourself. The KA has plenty...of aftermarket support. Ranging from cams to Pistons, rods, bearings, valves/springs. Everything..its out there bud. Do your research kid, and hop off the SR "JDM tyte" bandwagon. KA isn't a truck motor, I'm not going to waste my time. Again, look it up..chump. Lol. SR is a great motor, turbo for turbo. The KA performs better. Plaaaaaain and simple. Using "truck motor" as Derogatory term? Go talk to all the LS boys. Peace. Educate yourself.

Hey Kyle, congrats on 1 million subscribers. My opinion on the 240sx build would be to keep the engine, and make it as reliable as possible, and then adding a turbocharger. Keeping the stock engine feels the most authentic, and I would also recommend repainting the midnight blue pearl! You rarely ever see that color on any car. For the suspension, coilovers would be the way to go, for the exhaust, I would suggest making a standard exhaust for now, just to get rid of the old, rusty stock one. Good luck on the build. Of course tires are your preference.

S15 SR20DET is your best bet. It has a good amount of power stock (220hp), and since it's such a popular swap in the US, parts availability shouldn't be too bad :) I'd specifically look for a S15-variant since it has the most power and is younger and probably has less mileage.

Kyle, if you want to do something along Europe spec lines I can give you an idea. Type x rear end conversion, ISIS Blast pipes for exhaust (looks stock kinda), ca18det swap with a larger turbo, injectors and a nice tune. Full coil overs are the way you want to go with fender flares to fit wide wheels. Get a nice stereo, 12" sub, etc for comfort. That's what I'd do. Also. Don't worry about paint/warp til you get cash to do the original paint again nice and then do a wrap. You are going to spend more on paint and wrap if you do it the way you said you wanted.

Hi Kyle, cool idea. Here are some thoughts: Motor-keep what you have and fix it up a little. Suspension: New oem shocks and lowering springs by 1/2" and some nice 17 wheels with good tires. Interior: Love the blue. Reinstall the factory radio and install a Nismo (JDM) shift knob. Freshen up the interior but otherwise keep it stock. Paint: The images you showed of your dream look pretty badass but personally I like the factory blue and I would repaint the factory color since you have that great blue interior.

I'm really interested to see where this project goes. I am a proud owner of a 1990 240sx with a KA24DE swap, welded diff, coilovers, gut, etc. Bought it as just a typical 240. I'm greatly intrigued by what its going to look like going from stock as a rock to where ever its end goal takes it. This is going to be great!

great interior it's definitely worth the restoration. I used to own the very same car for 11 years all I had to do is to replace the fuel injectors. sold it with 194k miles. right after the whole dashboard cracked open right in the middle with half an inch of gap following a freezing night...

I like the idea of putting a turbo charger and rebuilding the engine, along with everything else you plan on doing I think that's the right way to go.

Why not go SR20det? It drops right in since it came in the JDM versions. The engine comes with a massive aftermarket and you can have parts shipped to your house in less than a week no matter where you live in the US. I have had my SR20det in my 240 for about 5 years now and I haven't had a problem with getting parts or reliability. Its a very capable engine and I think you would enjoy it.

I have researched that a bunch and just completely forgot to mention it in the video, too many things to talk about haha. That would make the most sense if I was doing a swap. I'll dig into it more, but I'm still leaning toward building up the KA, I'll figure it out one way or another haha.

DETAILING VIDEOS IS WHAT I WANT! I want to see you clean the paint and wheels! Haha as soon as I'm writing I hear you talking about it! New wheels are due for the 240SX!

That's coming next week! :) I cannot wait, it's going to turn out great!

Saabkyle04 Also you should get a Polish detail and then maybe PPF? if you want to show off the original paint!

Saabkyle04 just herd you talk about the wrap!
@anonymousmind8 жыл бұрын
To wrap the car you will probably need to Polish detail the car or wrap wont stick or look nice and then you could make your choice on a wrap or original paint.

Looking at the Forza picture, I'd go with the same wheels but gloss black. Also, I'd do a SLIGHTLY bigger wing, just a little more lip in the back.Its your car though, You do you kyle!

Maybe a lip front spoiler very minor, a nice set of stock looking hres and just an excellent restoration job.

I would spend your first money on this car on new plugs, fluids, suspension and filters (including fuel filter). Once you have it in mint operating condition, you can build on it's appearance.

Kyle - don't forget about the SR20 series. Not quite as much power as the engines you mentioned, but it's definitely a lot more power than the KA24, it's plenty affordable, and probably the easiest swap. Glad to see you're keeping it clean and subtle. Congrats on 1 million!

Thanks buddy! I completely forgot to mention the SR20, despite looking at them countless times already haha.

You have a really cool direction for the car. not many people do a near stock or resto-mod build. Big brakes up front, fluid and pads should be good. knowing your attention to detail you'll want at least matched springs and dampers if not coil-overs. Make sure you do your research to put together a reliable turbo KA.

Bodywise I recommend checking out Dorkidori side skirts and Rear valances. The V1's are very lowkey and give such a nice look. I think that would look great on this car. Just my opinion though. And for the front brakes Z32 Brakes should do you good if you want to save cash. As for suspension you'll definitely want too go with coilovers. You can get anything from a slight drop to balls low. whatever you're in the mood for. Swaps, RB would be fine and dandy. Less to worry about finding parts nowadays since there's alot more skylines in america nowadays. The single cam KA is practically bulletproof, the only thing with it is that there's not much mod support for the singles. If you want modification capability and the best bang for your buck, the Dual cam KA Is exactly what you need. ALSO THIS IS IMPORTANT, a nismo power brace is gonna be one of the most beneficial thing you can do too the car. You get such a high amount of rigidity from it, it's definitely worth it. Not too expensive either. Lastly, S13's tend to have understeering problems, so too help that just stiffen the rear anti roll bars. Good luck with the build!

Your exterior choice looks awesome Kyle! Simple, not too flashy. Suspension : yes dropping it a little would look better and with that nice looking momo wheels, couldn't argue with that. Engine : SR20DET would be a pretty good swap. Interior : as stock as possible but refurbish the worn parts. Looking forward for this project Kyle! :D

Maybe try to make it luxury inside? With some wood-stuff one the console where the shiftknob is. And try to get it at the doors too! And another nice idea: take the gauge cluster out and get another one with chrome rings in it to get the luxury in the interior!
