Whiskey Sour is a cocktail I enjoy immensely, I go all in on it and then forget about. Then I rediscover it usually around 6 months later. And so the cycle repeats... 🥃

You gotta try a Penicillin, it’s a scotch whiskey sour(non peated) with ginger syrup and a FLOAT of Islay scotch on the top. So good

My favorite whiskey for cocktails is Wild Turkey Rare Breed. The flavor really stands out in most drinks because it's barrel proof, and it's not terribly expensive. The rye version is also great. It's not something I drink every day, but it's nice to keep around for the odd occasion when I want to make a fancy cocktail.

I haven't tried a smokey Scotch in a sour, but they make great floats for sours. Ardbeg 5 Wee Beastie works amazing for that.

Heavily peated Scotch makes a great Sour. Ardbeg works well, Ledaig or Big Peat should too

OMG Brianna is the STAR! In the Mr. Ed show… in the whiskey sour episode… Awesome! Just wish she had tried to hang with the guys on the Churchill episode!! Her empathy, honesty and forthright joi de vivre would have added many additional layers of meaning to that episode… 🎉❤

I bought a bottle of Octomore 14.1 earlier today and was drinking it while watching this. I was trying to think of how this rich peat monster could possibly work in a sour, but I have a feeling that the flavors would clash. I occasionally makes sours, but I use Meyer lemons since I have access to a very productive Meyer lemon tree and I can get large numbers of them whenever I want them. When using Meyer lemons instead of regular lemons, it is necessary to reduce the amount of sugar (or other sweetener) since Meyer lemons are sweeter than the normal ones. Sometimes, I don't add any sugar. The humble Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is my go-to for a sour, but sometimes I try other things. I also like to make a Meyer lemon variant caipirinha on occasion. I usually use Leblon cachaça for that, but a good rhum agricole works too. I have Suntory Toki. I'm curious to try that version now, but I'll have to obtain some elder flower flavoring.

Another hilarious episode! Love this stuff. Also, continuing to report I am now 7mo nicotine free. I haven’t smoked or vaped anything since I got the Füm. I’ve even cut back on how much I use that 🤪 I get weird subconscious “where’s your vape?” Moments, but it’s gotten so much easier. It’s not even a challenge anymore, but more of a passing annoyance. All thanks to you and Füm, couldn’t have done it without y’all.

Whisky Sours are one of the best cocktails imo. Whenever I buy a bottle and end up not liking it after trying it 5 or 6 times, it goes on the bar counter for making sours.

If mezcal works in sour cocktails, so does islay scotch. E.g. A Penecillin calls for a float of islay, a Pete's Word is a Last Word with islay instead of gin, you can use it as a rinse too.

Question from a complete noob: I recently picked up some Monkey Shoulder based off a number of recommendation videos, including the Rex and Daniel video on their website, but all I'm tasting is nail polish remover. When I first cracked the bottle it smelled lovely, but when I actually poured it neat, nail polish remover. Did I screw something up putting it in a dry cabinet out of the sun?

I was about to let the buichladdich sour dry shake without the egg go, until another drink, you comment that the texture is better. The recipe wasn't followed, which sure it's all just dumb fun here, but if you're comparing drinks and you make one wrong it throws off the comparison. Dry shaking with the egg instead of after the fact would have changed the texture.

I am thinking of coming down to do a whiskey tasting, I have never really been a whiskey drinker due to my reaction to Jack Daniels, but I do Wine and Beer Tasting and pairing due to my Culinary Back ground and I do pair things with some spirits as well. I just want to try some Whiskey's to better pick out different profiles to pair better for sure.

I've used the Classic Laddie for sour style cocktails (not necessarily a "whisky sour") and found it delicious. I wonder if the chamomile tea syrup is what made it have a "weird texture "?

It’s either the foam or the syrup. Classic Laddie is moderately tannic and has a bit of that pot still oiliness, which is what you want for a sour.

have a question, unrealted to this video. i enjoy a fair share of whisky, and my go to is Black Label (money issues lol with the amount i consume!) so i find that the taste changes considerably with each batch, including the peat and the spice levels. so is it just me or the taste does change?

A big thing with classic cocktails is "is it what I'm ordering"? I love an Old Fashioned with scotch. The smoke just takes it to a different place. But if I order an Old Fashioned when I'm out, i want an Old Fashioned, not some variation. I bet Bruichladdich's would actually be my favorite drink, but not my favorite whiskey sour.

I guess I’m the odd one out here. My preferred whisky sour is one made with scotch. Blended scotch, my homemade sour mix, a dash of angostura, luxardo(or similar). The almond syrup and marshmallows are odd to me though.

Okay, so I am used to the traditional whiskey sour from Louisiana. And down there they don't have any ingredients like that. It is the simplest whiskey sour you can possibly make. One shot of your favorite whiskey one shot of your favorite lemon juice, one shot of your favorite lime juice. There isn't any type of simple sugar syrup or anything like that. I know that probably isn't the original recipe, but it's the one that I grew up with.

@@rmccaw7 if you use the right lemon and the right lime juice, there's enough natural sweetness that actually comes from the fruit that you literally taste the elements in this order you taste the lemon. You taste the line. You get the slight harshness of the whiskey and then everything neutralizes and so when you get done sipping it has a very clean finish. Almost like you just took took a drink of cold water. It's hard to describe unless you actually do it. Not trying to argue with you that it's good or bad because it's all personal preference. But to me that is a traditional Louisiana style whiskey sour.
