Hello fellow AMG enthusiasts, In todays video we take a look at which E55 sedan is the better buy? The older or newer generation? Fast or Faster? Blocky or Sleek?

Both are great cars but I'm with W210 as well. Its fast enough for us and the Mono Blocks and classic look is timeless. I think the w211 will become more popular as the years pass.

Thanks for sharing your comparison. I own a W210 E55 Designo edition since 2005. To this day I enjoy driving it and turns head all the time. My transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago which was actually not that expensive as many thought. Brakes we completely done recently and the next thing I need to do is replace the shocks and valve cover gasket.

I absolutely loved my w210. It was lightly modified and absolutely reliable. It's much more nimble than people would think, as well as stable at high speed, even beyond what the speedometer can read out.

I have the E55 AMG '97 Pre-Facelift since one month(Germany) and i can tell i'm very satisfied with this it is literally fast as hell tho and a very beautiful classic german muscle V8

Nice comparison! Here in Europe you cannot even get a W210 e55 under 10.000 euros. A reasonable car is already above 15.000. And we even live in the country next to Germany.... The W211's are even a bit cheaper now. Still crazy prices.. W210 E55 combi is the nicest in my opnion. Very nice cars.

New to the channel but as always, nice work! I like both chassis but I LOVE the W210. That era of Benz’s have turned out to be timeless in design. You know you have a great car when Chrysler is STILL using the W210 chassis for their Charger/Challenger and whatever else. If you ever want to review a bone stock W202 C43, I know a guy ☺️

New to your channel and I agree with your narration of facts. I own a 1999, 2001 and a 2002 E55 AMG and I love these cars, low maintenance and good performance. I do not own a w211 E55 AMG however, I do have a 2005 S55 AMG.

Great video! Recently went through this but on the non amg scale, 99 e430 vs 06 e500. Went with the e430, I got it with great low mileage only 78,000, but bought it for most the reasons that you mentioned. 210 feels sooo much lighter than 211 and it’s really only about a 500 pound difference give it take! The real deal maker was the interior. 211 is more modern but not in a good way, and prefacelift 210 have the last essence of the 80s Mercedes which garnered so much fame. All that being said the real 2000s amg steal is still the clk 🤫

I’ve had both the w210 and w211. The power of the w211 is best part, like you said brakes are floaty and the suspension. W210 is slower but it does make up with the brakes and handling. Hopefully sooner than later I can do a manual swap on the w210. Cheers

I've had a S211 E55 and W210 E55, sold the wagon and kept the W210. The S211 felt so disconnected while driving. W210 is more of a driver's car. The pre-facelift W210 isn't as heavy as the 2000 and later cars.

only thing I don't like about my 02 e55 is the interior build quality, everything is kinda thin and flimsy (except the wood panel, those are good), plastic are low quality so they fall into pieces, in addition there are too many soft material laying around without a rugged backbone. All these make it really hard to rattle free, especially for the car with short spring, aftermarket sport coilover etc. I thought I address every rattling sound in my 55, and after a week I noticed there are still some noise coming from the passenger side. After remove the wood trim, I noticed the air vent fitting under the wood panel literally disintegrated into pieces by itself. Forget the rust issue, if these car can have slightly better plastic quality like bmw's e39, it would be another legendary due to the unkillable drivetrain.

I have seen low mileage W210's sell for $30k - $40k on BaT. The cost of ownership is less for the W210's as well - so easier to appreciate as they age. I bought a 2002 because I preferred the lower cost of ownership due to the less complex design. But it would be nice to have 100 more HP... ;-)

I certainly appreciate the well made video and your perspective, but I think if we are being seriously honest...there is no comparison between the two. The W211 is lightyears beyond a w210, and thats totally ok. It was meant to be, the W211 started the super sedan wars and lead to the creation of some of the most popular and desirable cars around today. the W210 is a brilliant car, and in its day it was a serious performer, but it is the last of the old school Mercedes and the two generations really shouldnt be compared. There is nothing the W210 does better than the W211, but evolution of the breed does that. 500E -> W210 ->W211 and so on. Although im a nerd and don't think they build an AMG car since the W211 thats got the same soul. but thats my heavily one sided opinion. Keep up the good work my bro!

Would you recommend a pre or post face-lift w210 e55. I had a 1999 e55 for 13 years. Got rid of it and want to buy another one. Thanks

@Thomas Major I am partial to a post facelift due to larger dash screen, upgraded shifter and generally more likely to have a better command unit/options. I also prefer the facelift exterior looks as well, especially the side skirts.

I have been driving Benzes since 1985, and still have my 1990 300CE. My 5th one was a 98 E320, then a 2000 E430,which my wife still drives. I found a mint 2001 E430/Sport 2 years ago for a ridiculously low price with only 80K on it. They are probably as rare as W210 E55’s. They look identical to the E55 with the ground effects and have the sport suspension. I put 18” rims from a 2008 CLS on it and it handles great. I have driven the W211 and also prefer the W210. I've owned a 210 E55 for years, loved the car, but wasn't in love. Dominated the streets of Miami for years from South Beach to Doral, she didn't skip a beat and loved romping through intersections/on ramps/off ramps/merge lanes :-] Even took a blast to North Carolina once! Sold her to an enthusiast who is a fanatic. I had to get back in a 220. Sold my 220 S500 because I wanted more speed. Found the 210 55 for under 3k. Had to get a taste. I missed my 220 after a couple weeks....To me, the 220 S-Class is the best of what a car should be. No other MB has the presence of a 220 55K. I can understand the "hype" in the comments but the 210 55 really isn't all that special. The V8 Kompressor is just better in every aspect. This may get me beat up around here but dare I say the E39 M5 looks more handsome than the 210?
