That was me, I used to prefer thinner picks but after forcing myself to get used to thicker picks I like them much better.

Honestly, I've been playing for over 20 years with .38mm Dunlop picks, but you've convinced me to give some other, thicker picks a try. Thanks for this video; very informative!

I like the 1mm Dunlop with the little 'grippy' stuff carved on both sides at the top. I play medium strings and that Blue Chip sounds really nice. Lighter strings might require a thinner pick. I haven't tried it though.

I really like the white acetal pick you sent as a gift when I ordered some Wegen BGs. I ended up using the acetal pick more!

Good video man and your thoughts on picks mirror what I am finding out to be true as well. It was nice to hear my thoughts be reaffirmed that I'm on the right path withy pick journey!

It’s absolutely a very personal choice 😊 I have been playing for 42 years, and for me, personally I have found the thin Fender Nacho Chip picks give me the exact tone I want. Yes there is a fair amount of pick-click, but in my case that’s an integral part of my rhythm sound. Thank you for all that you do to keep traditional music alive and well, and hug your sisters for me.

Nobody wants to borrow my picks, they noticed I lick my digits for grip. A well rounded, worn pick works on my mando. I’ve gravitated to the thicker ones.

That's gross. That's why I lick the whole pick.😂 Nobody is borrowing mine either

Thicker pick gives me more control on single notes. Hold it more loosely for strumming across strings. Becomes intuitive after a while.

I made some out of rams horn, great tone but a little soft, I have to sharpen the pick if I play alot. I am defatting some cow bone right now, candy wait to make some bone picks

Blue Chips for me. But man, I get bummed when I lose one. I keep a few Dunlop Prime Tone 1.3 as back ups. They’re not as quick off the string as the Blue Chip but they’re pretty close.

Hey Andy, grab a pick pouch or just stick it back in the strings when you aren't playing. You'll be good I think. I have misplaced mine a couple times over the years, but thankfully they weren't gone permanently. That's when I got the Blue Chip pick pouch. Love my Blue Chips, they are awesome! EE Oh yeah, keep cheap ones in your pocket for loaners, they tend to walk away, LOL.

I went from a TP-50 to a TAD-60 3R and haven’t looked back. I prefer the increased thickness and rounded corners while maintaining that large triangle shape.

Around 1mm to 1.3mm seems to be the sweet spot for me when playing a Martin dreadnought. A stiff, thinner pick can work well with electric guitar, since volume is not an issue. I’ve read that Doc Watson used a fairly thin nylon pick, but he could probably make anything sound good.

He used a 1.0 nylon pick

Hi Ben. Awesome video as usual. I have to admit, I was also sorta distracted by the thing on you neckline. Is that a mic? If so, can you tell me what kind?

I use a thicker Blue Chip TP-1R 40 on my mandolin. It has one rounded edge. I like the tone it gives my mandolin. On the guitar I use a Dunlop Prime Tone medium guage.

Fender 354 Medium for me. Shaped like a super small Jazz pick, but sized like a standard Fender Medium. Been using these since Berklee, a loooooooong time ago. They're getting hard to find - used to get a gross for 22 bucks. Amazon charges 12 bucks for 6 these days. Ah me...

Thin picks suck. Especially for new players. I used one for a week before moving on to 1.14mm Gator Grips.

I use a Jazz III, I got a BlueChip. There is a difference in the BlueChip. Much better. Stiffer.

I checked your store for the Blue Chip TAD 50 but it's sold out right now. I just wanted to know being a more expensive pick do you find that they last longer? What material are they? I currently use Dunlop Tortex 1.0 mm and wear them down kinda quickly.
@luvbgrass2 жыл бұрын
Hey chargert9, I don't work for Ben. I have played a pile of picks over the years including the Dunlop. I have NEVER played a pick that sounds as good as Blue Chip, real tortoise is close. Even tortoise picks wear and need to be cared for. The Blue Chips just last forever if you don't lose it, lol. I usually play a TP1R 50. Grab one, you wont regret it. 🙂

@@luvbgrass Hi, that's Great to know I appreciate the information. I'm definitely going to order myself one. Now I just have to make sure I hold on to it and don't lose it. Lol I will definitely get back after I get it. 🎸 Thank You 🎸

Blue chip never wears. Not even a little after a couple years

Nah. You're biased. Your buddies pick sounded exactly like Taylor Swift Pick. Pick noise was the same on both. 👎 Blue Chips have the same click clack. You're just biased.
