It was not only the covid, keep in mind that the 2019 figure, even though it was the highest in the world, in the long term was insufficient for the contracts that were in the first team. President Bartomeu signed ascending contracts that increased over time because he knew that he would not continue as president. Really interesting video. I collect retro football shirts, primarily from the 90s and early 00s. I have barely any shirts post 2014 ish. The quality of thr shirts has deteriorated in my view. The sponsors are now a very thin plastic instead of the embossed felt material. The sleeve sponsors are aesthetically unappealing, and the the naemsets are no longer the superior lextra/felt material. Teams like rangers who have a huge world wide support probably only less than Man united, Liverpool, Real Madrid and barca. They've went bankrupt once and look close to it again because of bad financial management, yet their rivals celtic, who are also very widely supported worldwide but are one of very few top flight clubs in Europe who make profit every season, but they're still less valuable than a small EPL club like Ipswich. Having a big support and stadium means nothing today. It's all about sponsorship and brand/TV deals. Leeds are a championship club Hamburg and Schalke are huge clubs but play second tier football despite being bigger than 90% of their top flight rivals. Hamburg Schalke Rangers and Celtic all play in front of over 50000 each home game but celtic are the only team in profit and that's only around 125m€

@@saffronjuice well, their attendance is only 5th highest in the league, far below that of most top 20 clubs in Europe they sell significantly less shirts than clubs like Bayern, Barca or Real reality is, City's revenue is artificially increased through offshore firms set up by Abu Dhabi e.g. 8xbet which was only set up to funnel more money into the club through dubious sponsorship deals, the company literally doesn't exist part of the 115 charges against them so these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt

@@benzo___ weekly attendance and shirt sales account for only a fraction of revenue. Most of revenue comes from TV. which the PL brings in billions every season. And city’s popularity keeps growing abroad bcuz of their success + they always make the UCL (only english team to not miss in last 14). Consistently make QF and SF, which makes them more attractive to sponsors (Asahi, OKX, Nissan) unless those guys are also fake. So they bring more money than other english teams from winnings, are very attractive to sponsors cuz they play big CL games every year, increasing popularity and viewership in the US. But it still doesn’t make sense why they should be bringing in that much revenue? FYI 8xbet recently just signed a partnership with Chelsea. I guess Sheikh Mansour was feeling very generous to also help funnel some money for Chelsea as well
