Which Forza Horizon Map is the Best?

FH4 map is my favourite, I live in UK so it’s familiar and looks more alive than FH5

Accesibility isn't necessarily something positive. Sometimes I wish we could go back to the old style of open worlds with the roads and scenery being prioritised over making every area drivable. To this day, I haven't seen a map with better scenery than Hot Pursuit 2010 or a better road than FH2's coastal road.

Same bro, my favourite part of FH1 was how good the actual driving roads and the scenery were. Thanks to the open world having barriers and undrivable areas, the devs had much more freedom about the road layouts and the landscape. Something like Red Rock having a single road connecting it to the rest of the map is just incompatible with the current open world formula used in modern racing games.

That is a valid point, though I think Accessibility is important for Forza Horizon specifically because one of the meanings of the series is the freedom. Its possible to have a map with both great roads and great accessibility. If FH1 & FH2 dropped today, they'd easily be the best maps due to top notch accessibility with the goated roads and overall layout.

@@diegosimeone8814 If I were doing the ranking my criteria would be : Road Layout (how the roads flow and are woven together), Scenery (vistas and environmental design in general) , Representation (How close to real place the map is), Playground Locations (places like FH3's Redstone Airport ranked based on how you can interact with the props)

@@thecarspec_ FH2's barriers might be tolerated as there were few of them that affected the gameplay. However it's simply naive to think that an old-school open world like FH1's map would fit the current Horizon games. The last time we've seen an open world like FH1's was NFS Payback back in 2017 and even back then it was criticized for not being accessible enough. Now I've seen a few people advocating for the return of a NFS HP 2010 type of semi-open world but I HIGHLY DOUBT that will ever happen.

For Road and Race Course Layout: 4. For absolutely Knockout Scenery: 2. For Sheer Biome Diversity: 3. For deep Festival Immersion and Driving "Realism" (by Simcade standards) as you actually had to use the Roads: 1 Best overall: 2. Simply because of *That* Road between Nice and Castelletto! Best Driving Road in *any* Open World Racing Game IMO coupled with *That* Scenery!

@@santinosalamanca4378 Indeed, I absolutely cannot stand the map In FH5! it is, without Question, one of the worst Maps I have ever Experienced in a AAA Racing Game. Given I have been gaming for 30 Years, that is Saying something! Run Down, Rusty, Filthy Dirty, Dead, Barren, Ancient, Abandoned, Riddled with Depressing Scenes of the most Heart-breaking Poverty, with an Illogical Road Layout and a Festival that was clearly added at the Last Minute! just Horrid!

Good exercice bro But i think some of these criteres aren't pertinent (accessibility), and i'll make the exercice myself for explain my point of view (i'm french, i hope it will be readable ^^') with "scenery" (landscapes, environments, consistency) + "locations" + "quality of roads" (fun roads, variety, level design in general...) Problem : "scenery" is the most subjective critere ... In my opinion : #5 : FH5 (15/30) #4 : FH3 (20/30) #3 : FH1 (21.5/30) #2 : FH2 (27/30) #1 : FH4 (28/30) FH1 : 21.5/30 - Scenery 7/10 (i made 7 because of variety and certain very nices landscapes, but FH1 suffer to the comparison with newer games) - Location 8/10 (Good balance between locations and "just travel" roads) - Roads 6.5/10 (There aren't to many roads, and main city is flat and boring full angle streets but every roads are different and they go far in their archetypes. Level design is lack to density but this permise to have a good scenery). FH2 : 27/30 - Scenery 8/10 (Various scenery with big landscapes and cool littoral roads, with a really nice coherent biome and various lines of sights... this map have ALL, the only default for me is the biome isn't exploited as completely and perfectly as in FH4...) - Locations 10/10 (My favourite city, tons of secondary locations and little cities and a good balance like FH1 between locations and "just travels" roads) - Roads 9/10 (Game have same variety of roads to FH1, verticality of level design but with more roads and a best density, a really good layout, more fun, more challenging... Main city could be the best, if Nice wasn't to small. only problem for me : the map is really good like that, but a quite little. Fortunately, the excellent level design can make me forgot this detail). FH3 : 20/30 - Scenery : 9/10 (I don't have much to say about it. The environment is pretty, exotic, rather coherent and varied. FH3 > FH2 on that, but where the FH3 map has good locations, the level design is bland, and where we have some beautiful, well-designed layout (the forest), well it's empty and the locations are few and quite mediocre... FH3 never manages to combine the best of both worlds (good points of interest + good level design)) - Locations : 7/10 (only because FH3 map is the begin of losing the good balance with location roads and "just travalling" roads. Some locations are good like the like the wreck of the liner, the factory in the desert, but the map remains quite empty, especially the southern half (all the forest and the coastline are of little interest to me). In reality, the festival locations are on the contrary, in my opinion, the most successful and that allows FH3 to regain a few points) - Roads : 4/10 (Roads are flats, layout isn't challenging due to poorly designed turns. The symbol of the boring layout for me is the main city : it's pretty, but the completely flat grid roads are deathly boring, no challenge, it's so casual, and the problem is that even in the only other city it's like this) FH4 : 27,5/30 - Scenery : 10/10 (Surprisly, i think FH4 has the best scenery for me. The biome looks monotonous, quite conventional... But it offers a variety of landscapes equal to an FH3 (with only 1 biome however, in fact, FH4 only has one biome but Playground game has really succeeded in 'exploit to the maximum, which he had not done with FH2) with sometimes real moments of grace, like around the lake, in the great plain to the north, or in the wind plain, not to mention that, for For me, the architectures of FH4 (as for FH2) are among the prettiest of the entire FH series.) - Locations : 8/10 (I prefer FH2 locations but FH4 have some bangers and hight quality locations to, the only point of difference is because i prefere south France (where i living ^^') and the the balance between travel roads and locations. Other default for me : FH4 is lack of secondary "real" city (both of them in FH4 are too little or less interesting than FH2) and, it's true, certains locations aren't really unforgettable). - Roads : 9,5/10 (The only default for me is the density, quite less perfect than FH2. But layout is just perfect, with some big straight roads, and some winding roads, not to mention the off-road which is, in my opinion, one of the best in the series. The city of Edinburgh may be a bit boring and gridded, but it has the best variety of roads of any city in the series.) FH5 : 15/30 - Scenery : 8/10 (but they do not offer moments of grace that previous FHs offered us: apart from the volcano and one or two points high up, we are constantly surrounded by trees, dunes... the only long lines of Views are in the fields in the middle of the map, that is to say the whole half, or even 70% of the surface, perfectly tasteless and boring. The desert is not as captivating as that of FH3, and for good reason: that of FH3 contained much better points of interest. In fact, i "must" add some points for the graphics and modelisation. FH5 is a gap in this domain). - Locations : 5/10 (All is said in video, except the main city which is colored and fun to drive in, the map look so empty, biomes are various, quietly coherent but ) - Roads : 2/10 (All roads arn't bad, but map too big for what it offers, and too many roads are similar, namely "a straight line, an angle turn, followed by a straight line", not to mention the lack of relief on 70% of the map. The remaining 30% is not enough to make up for the rest in my eyes. Barely the worst layout, really worst than FH3)

The biggest thing that i like is FH5 hot wheels. OMG! thats a new way to enjoy car racing games, the maps, the car itself, and the experience driving a twisted orange tracks, Incredible! ❤

Horizon 1 has okay variety, only issue is it was limited free roam, no water, no leaving the boundaries at all like you can in fh3 and later. And you couldn’t really explore as much. It has decent variety like I said, but you can’t toss around 10/10s, because in that case, just about every forza would be a 10/10 for variety, cus all the maps had a lot to offer. I’d give it a 6.5 or 7, just due to the limited free roam, and the expansion not really changing too much.

You missed the point of the "Accessibility" category. Accessibility means how much of the map is accessible. I gave FH1 a 6/10 in that category for that exact reason you stated. Variety has a different meaning. Its about the selection of roads, evironments, and biomes on how distinctive they are.

@ variety and accessibility go hand in hand. If you can’t access certain parts of the map, variety doesn’t matter. Limited off-roading, you can’t go into forests etc. especially if the variety is map dependent.

forza horizon 3 is good, but i wish they used Australia as the map for one of the later games, because it could be so much bigger, like the size of horizon mexico idk this is a biased opinion because i grew up play fh3 and i live in australia

If you compare the Horizon 5 map, with the map in the NFS unbound, nfs do it better in many ways, even Motorfest or TDU.

I think the best game is 5 because of Eventlab and the handling. The map is probably the third best. FH4 has the best map and the seasons are great. The handling is close to 5. FH2’s map is second best. I didn’t care for 3 and 1.

I like the idea.. but I would have scored it differently: 5) FH5 4) FH2 3) FH3 2) FH1 1) FH4 If they all had been made today I think FH1 & FH2 would have been on top. I'll be back for more FH scores!
