The 2017 Taylormade M1 is such a great combination of looks, feel, distance, forgiveness and ability to adjust. It's in my bag (and I think it is still one of the best drivers available for a large segment of golfers).

I use a Ping G30 which I bought from eBay for £70. It’s very forgiving but now aged 67 I think it was the fact it had a senior flex shaft attached that made the biggest difference and allows me as a 20 handicapper just getting back into golf (stop playing through injury for 15 years) to hit some drives over 200 yards.

I liked that one but I couldn’t hit it well at all. Do pretty good with the G410 I got. I also really liked the stealth and it hit well. But not trying to spend that much and the carbon face worries me about durability.

I use a Ping G425 (which I actually picked up from golfbidder) as I’d watched loads of reviews. I’ve been happy with it but am not the most consistent off the tee. Last week I played golf abroad and used a hire set, which had a Callaway Epic Driver, and I hit it long and straight again and again. Shows the benefit of really testing before buying and not always needing the newest to improve your game.

The guys laughed at me today as I carried 7 drivers to the golf course. None of which were over 3 years old except for the driver that I currently use which is the Callaway XR 9.5 ... None of the newer drivers go any further than the XR and the XR is a fairway finder for me. The latest new driver I have is the Callaway Rouge max, 9 degree, stiff shaft, (all the drivers have the stiff shaft). I hate the sound of a carbon infused driver but could get used to it if I saw an advantage but like the Cobra, or Sim2 nothing beats the XR for me. I sold one of the Callaway Epic speed drivers today. Ping is to loud and sounds like I crack the face every time I hit it with a center strike ! So with the rules being the way they are for drivers I doubt we will see much improvement other than sounds and looks anytime soon.
@justinnelson14832 жыл бұрын
I had a M2 in the bag for a few years but switched to a Cobra F8 about 3 years ago. The M2 definitely sounded better, but the F8 has definitely helped with the off center strikes... As a born and bred Wisconsin boy, I sure hope that cow is ok!

Great content - the one factor I would add that should be considered when selecting a driver is desired shot shape - i.e. pick a head that can be opened or closed and is constructed to help you hit the shape you want to hit - i.e. those M1 & M2, in my opinion, are best if you like to hit pro-fades - I've owned them both and that is what they prefer. If you want to hit Draws, don't buy a low-spin head, etc, etc. We play a shop shape - find a club that helps.

I'm playing the M6 right now that I got 2 years ago second hand for $150. Just went to a fitting experience with Titleist, and they said that even though the new driver was a little more consistent, it doesn't outperform my current driver enough to warrant making the switch.

I bought a Cobra King Speedzone driver this year with a regular shaft since stiff doesn't fit me. It was a cheap driver since it's a several years old model at this stage, but I couldn't be happier with the results! The driver increased my distance in a ridiculous fashion and it's by far the best driver I've spent money on. It feels good to use, the sound it makes on a clean hit is incredibly satisfying and it even looks good! Plus, it's pretty forgiving. I'd say this driver alone is what made me lower my handicap with several notches this year thanks to the extra distance I got which made approach shots a lot more manageable. 👍

I use the 2018 callaway rogue. I messed around with the setting myself and found the sweet spot in addition to cutting off 1.5 inches from the standard stiff shaft length. Bomb fairways 300+ fairly consistently. While playing baseball for 20 years helps me generate lots of swing force, it’s because of KZbinrs like yourself that have helped me fine-tune my game down into the 70s❤❤.
@Providenza2 жыл бұрын
2018 Rogue is an absolute blessing of a club, how it doesn't get more mention when it honestly performs really similar to the new model blows my mind. The club is so damn forgiving, my miss-hit is a heel strike and I still bomb those 240m+ down the middle of the fairway with a slight fade.

Very helpful for those with lower budgets. I have a Big Bertha 816 Alpha DBD driver and matching 3 and 5 wood. I bought them used. They are very adjustable. The driver is one of the longest of its day (2016). It seems to hold up well against the new drivers. Because my driver club length is significantly longer than standard I removed the weight altogether and replaced the cap. I also bought lighter sole weights for the fairways. With the two (front and back) sole weights in the fairways I can adjust draw-fade bias. They are still about D-5. They are all X-flex. Top of the line used clubs are way better than new cheaper quality new clubs.

Great to see a review of recent rather than latest models. My thoughts are that since they've all maxed out COR nearly 10 years ago, all they can do now is improve forgiveness and play w spin. With new drivers at 600+ I usually wait to buy a driver thats 1 or 2 models prior, at a great price (currently Cal Epic Max (picked up for $130 in 2022)). I try the latest stuff but won't replace a club unless I can see an improvement on a launch monitor, which is getting harder to do. I don't have a brand loyalty and have 5 brands in the bag. Now, how about a video like this with irons? Mine are 8 yrs old and I can't find anything that outperforms them.

I am going back and forth right now between a Cobra Speedzone and a Titleist 917D2 - I was struggling with the big stick until I tried a 50g stiff Diamana shaft in the Titleist, started smoking most of my drives once I put in the lighter shaft. Have an Xcaliber T6+ shaft in the Cobra, think it is 73g, but the lighter shafts were not working in the Speedzone, once I put the stiffer heavier shaft in I got far better results. I love my Titleist, have complete confidence swinging that driver, but the Cobra gives me more distance on a center strike..... trying different weight combinations now to see what happens lol 19g in front and 12g in the rear position so far has proven best, but it is noticeably heavier than the Titleist driver. Lots to tinker with over the winter......

I upgraded last season to an LTDx LS from an old Nike Sumo. I didn't get fitted for it but felt like I knew my numbers well enough to make an educated guess on the shaft. The good news is that I'm driving it 15 yards longer on average. What I was really surprised with was how much ball speed is retained on off-center hits compared to the old driver. Of course, now I'm planning on taking it in to try some different shafts. I'm very happy with it but think that I might have it a little too stiff for my swing speed.

Both of the TaylorMade clubs are great, and I hit them with accuracy, as they are pretty forgiving, but the F9 beats them both for length when my swing is working. Early 2021 I bought my 2016 M2 on eBay for $170 in near mint condition w a stock Senior shaft. I got custom fit 2x last year for shafts, the last one w a Small Batch Evenflow Riptide CB 6.0 shaft. Average smash at 1.49 Feel/sound is unmatched. I’ve tried this head with blue and red Ventus (which aren’t counterbalanced) and couldn’t keep the spin under 3,000 rpm. Even with a Sim Max2 head Next year I May compare to Callaway Rouge ST LS or Titleist TR2 and see how the numbers play out, but honestly I’m happy with my 2016 M2. Sure I may get an extra 5 yards of carry and a little more forgiveness but the amount of money to lay out for a new driver, it’s not worth it. I’m already in for a total of $520 with the small batch shaft and will not get nearly half that back on a private sale or maybe $150 on trade in.

I had a F9 Driver, but we didn't get on. I tried another F9 three years later and I was amazed how much it had improved!

I've got a Titleist 915 D3. It's got a slighter smaller head so makes me concentrate more and not try to hit a Bryson. More middle hits , doesn't float up, and looks good. Second hand on ebay for £100 with upgrade shaft. Boom! 😁💣💥

I went from a TaylorMade Tour Burner to the SIM2 MAX, from 10.5 switched to 9.0 and went to a high launch SPEEDER shaft. Averaging about 274 off the tee. But your videos and James Robinson's on the TSR have me quite intrigued. Had a fitting about a month ago for a driver and tested the ROGUE ST, STEALTH, and LTDx. Was most impressed by the length and forgiveness of the COBRA.

I hate 460cc driver heads, I just tested the TSR3 and it legitimately is the best driver I have ever used other than my 300 mini I have now. I would buy it if I wasn't already perfectly happy with what I am using. I went in for a full bag fitting, so I tested, but honestly, it would have to be an astronomical event for me to swap the 300 mini out.
