In Greek it's more "Fugame" (with a regular F)... But you are right, the general phonology of Greek and Spanish are strikingly similar. A spanish native speaker will get very fast a very good prononciation in Greek (except maybe for the "v" sound).

Lentils, okra and legumes are a big part of the traditional Greek diet, some preparations even include spices such as cumin and are often drizzled with olive oil and have fresh lemon juice squeezed into them, but most don’t have a quarter of spice that the sub continent cuisine has. However, the fact that it relates to the foods the old grandmas forced fed their grandchildren especially in the 40 day lent fasting periods turns off many young people! Bad, horrible memories for them, it’s either love or hate for Greeks with legumes!
@Kar90great3 жыл бұрын
@@cgtm1l3n13m so basically you guys eat vegetables, meat and bread I guess... Rice is also not part of Greek food I think
@cgtm1l3n13m3 жыл бұрын
@@Kar90great rice is quite minimal but the reduction method of cooking using short, medium or long grain white rice is used by some of the old school cooks as a plate filler, no doubt a little bland for sub continental people. Rice is absolutely used in stuffed vegetable fillings, included in some soups and even in stuffings for chicken and whole animals cooked on spits sometimes. Some variants of pilaf do feature in the Greek kitchen. A classic sweet for the Greeks which is common in many cultures is rice pudding. Though, all in all, rice is not widespread traditional enough to be called a staple and Greek cuisine would not be likely to satisfy someone used to rice with every meal. Weird fact, typically Greeks throw rice at the bride and groom when they leave the church instead of confetti which is common in most of the west.

"Let's go" is "zigame" in Greek? In Spanish it's "sígame" (literally "follow me). It must be a loanword, interesting
@Clemjason144 жыл бұрын
No, in Greek it is pronounced "Figame", with a regular F. It literally means "we just have departed". It comes from Ancient Greek φυγω (fygo), which shares the same etymological root with the latin "fugere", and for instance the word "fuga" in Spanish (and also from there comes the verb "huir" in Spanish, "fuir" in French). It originally meant "to escape, to flee" in Ancient Greek, but in modern Greek it means "to leave, to go away".
