Great review! I usually have the possibility to recharge my phone and the powerdot everywhere with a sleek portable external battery. When I make active workouts I usually use an elastic net that is used for medical bandage to secure the pods. When I run out of new pads I fix the old ones with plasters like Tegaderm 3M.

Brandon After viewing your presentation about a month ago my option was the compex muscle stimulator. After the first use the charging device became defective. During the down time I purchased the powerdot pro-bundle. My review was the Powerdot system was easier to use and user friendly. Programs and placement were easier. Shortly after the compex arrived usage one time and system failure again. For the athlete on the move Powerdot is far superior. The pads are magnetic so if you are working out alone they snap in place. The pads are very secure and I have worked with the device on my body. I love my power dot.

Brandon, great review, as of today I note the Compex 5.0 wireless version on their site and at the cross road of either getting this or the Compex SP 4.0 wired version.!!! Sale Pricing seems about 100 dollars different (CAD site). I gather from your review you still prefer the wired version even when comparing to the new 5.0 wireless version!

Well as far as I know the 4.0 has not been cleared by the FDA for sale yet, but I am not a fan of the wireless devices. The Compex and other NMES devices shine when you use them WHILE training and the wireless ones constantly pop off if you do

Compex into a fanny pack. Most of the time that's how I keep mine on the body. Also, Velcro wire ties to control how much of the wire flops around. Compex wraps, to secure wireless to pads. You can put two in series for larger diameter parts of your body.

Great video man! Very informative. I used the compex many years ago. My main goal was muscle growth and strength for baseball. Oddly, the only muscle group that really seemed to respond was my calves. And by respond, I mean that I have 17 inch calves now. Literally everyone that knows me regularly jokes with me about how superhuman my calves are. On the other hand, it did not do jack shit for my other muscle groups. My arms are still a puny 14 inches despite years of training with weights and compex. For some reason, it didn't have the same effect on any other part of my body that it had on my calves. Not to mention, I loathed compex sessions. I don't know if their technology has improved, but my god that shit was painful. My skin would BURN during training sessions. It was horrible. And it didn't matter if I shaved or not. Thoughts?
@BrandonTalbot
@BrandonTalbot 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. As far as it being painful and burning, yes especially if you’re doing lots of hypertrophy. You’re running an electrical current which will produce lots of heat. As far as your calves, congrats I know many jealous souls right now. And as far as the other muscles not growing, I’m not sure... what program were you using? How frequently? Lots of variables
@commandconquerfitness1506
@commandconquerfitness1506 3 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonTalbot You're welcome, thanks for responding. I don't recall the settings very well, but I never did strength endurance. I only did strength and the other more "physique-oriented" setting. Haha thanks, I wish I had bigger arms and smaller calves, but I guess we always want what we don't have. That's a good point you make about frequency. I was probably only training each muscle group with compex once a week. So maybe I should give it another shot, but just "specialize" in one muscle area for awhile. For example, maybe I could do 3x per week of bi's and tri's for 3 months and perhaps that would be money.

That is a really good question, and I think it comes down to movement. If you’re going to be moving a lot, no. If you’re using it while stationary yes. Hey Jaime, thanks for the question. One is not more “powerful” than the other just FYI. And on both devices the more you turn them up, the stronger the contraction on the muscles gets.

@@BrandonTalbot just watched the video you did comparing the 3.0 and the updates they made.. kinda makes me glad I'm coming into this late game to be honest. I'm looking more towards wireless because it suits the general need to have an minimal amount of wires as possible, obviously the downsides are there to the wireless setup. But the real curious point for me is.. is the wireless compex better than the power dot? And worth the money? @@randomtvninja yeah for me it’s simply that if you use the wireless for any amount of time, because it’s holding the battery, the warmth it creates (electricity creates heat) and the weight means it’s constantly coming off. @@BrandonTalbot yea it coming off randomly would be extremely annoying and if I can save that $100 and just put it towards more electrodes that seems like the best way to go! Thank you! I personally don’t consider it a financial problem (and I don’t mean like money is of no concern) I mean that if it holds strong like compex has over the years it’s totally worth it. I would recommend using the info he provided for the PowerDot and then doing some reseach on the Compex Mini Wireless in order to do an apples to apples comparison. It has most of the same features as the Powerdot (app, wireless, various mode, tracking) The Compex unit he's using is old tech.
@BrandonTalbot
@BrandonTalbot 3 жыл бұрын
It’s all “old tech” NMES has been around since the 50’s. But the Compex I was using is from their latest model line with the exception of the mini. They have a brand new system coming out, just waiting to be cleared by the FDA, and when it does I’ll review that one. But more importantly I wanted to show the difference between wired and wireless systems, and the advantages and disadvantages of both. But yes for an apples to apples the mini is a better comparison

I evaluated the PowerDot, the Compex Mini (Compex's answer to PowerDot), and the traditional Compex. The PowerDot and the Compex Mini both integrate with your smartphone via bluetooth. They are similar, however the PowerDot's app is slightly more elegant, and the pod is a lighter weight. The Compex Mini comes with two pods - there is no single pod option, and is far cheaper then the PowerDot Duo. The Compex Mini never dropped the bluetooth connection, but the PowerDot dropped the connection intermittently which was pretty annoying. My biggest problem with the Compex Mini is that the stimulation felt "dirty" and not smooth. At high stimulation settings, the feeling was quite unpleasant. If I had to choose a portable, bluetooth device, I would likely choose the PowerDot over the Compex Mini. Fortunately, you don't have to choose either because the traditional Compex devices are superior in a variety of ways. As this reviewer states, the traditional Compex is far better for dynamic exercises as the pad aren't weighed down by pods. The stimulation feels smooth even at high settings. The channels can be set independently, so if your left leg feels as though it is getting less stimulation then the right, you can balance it out. The battery life is far superior to the PowerDot or the Compex Mini. Finally, the price of these devices is excellent. The Edge can be had for around $100 and it goes up from there. I see no scenario where a PowerDot or Compex Mini would be superior to the traditional Compex.

Cheers Brandon , I’m 60 and in to road cycling, I usually get some decent rides in, plenty of 100 mile rides and others of 150 , and even a 206 mile 3 years back. This year has been hampered by injuries, one after another. Old injuries and new , one when one the 206 mile ride I crashed after 16 miles knocking my knee cap but rode on for 190 miles. Then a couple of falls running since then twisting my knees. I also suffer lower back issues. And sore joints from my Ulcerative colitis. We are lucky we have a small gym at home, only multi gym, Rower and Wahoo Kickr bike plus some resistance bands. But I’m struggling to get any consistency with back to back training days.
