how is a 2.4 liter turbo motor unreliable. its such a basic design. do you have any kind of technical reason about the engine that makes you think it will be unreliable or just because its turbo?
@StealthTRD4 ай бұрын
Have you not seen all the issues reported from both the tundra and tacoma? Maybe qc problems but regardless, why a 4 cyl w a turbo when you can get a bulletproof 6 cyl@@saadahmed9460
@anthony4454 ай бұрын
@@saadahmed9460the motor itself is probably very reliable and simple, the engine itself isn’t very much so as they have a turbo and also added more plastic coolant elbows to make it lighter and cheaper. I think it’s non-interference engine and timing chain like the 3.5l but it’s still forced induction which will always run hotter and burn more oil than a NA engine.

I own the 1st, 2nd. and 3rd gens. All 3 platforms are perfect. I don't think I will be buying a 4th gen. The first 3 look better and are easier to work on. The 4th gens engine bay looks like a nightmare. And with Trani issues, shock fails from bump stops, The front sway bare disconnect has silicon sealing it instead of a real seal ( that's going to be a issue down the road), No grease fittings on the drive shafts, axils not coated or painted( rusting while sitting on the lot waiting to be sold, less cabin room, no ware near enough aftermarket products yet, and a 4 banger being forced to do what a 6 banger did without having to put more heat on the engine. This engine needs to see more years. not just miles before it will be a truly trustworthy engine. You can make any engine look good when its young. It took the Nissan Frontier 3 years before all the problems started popping up in the 05 Frontier. For the early buyers I hope your part of that majority that slip though the problem net. Gen 3 will be my last new Taco purchase. End of an era.

The 3.5 has eight years of documented history now. It’s a stout and reliable engine, built off 30+ years of experience manufacturing dependable, naturally aspirated V6’s. Time will tell if the 4cyl is reliable, but it’s certainly more intricate and complex…
@codyfox20384 ай бұрын
@g4yrut this is true. There are definitely more moving parts to have fail. But if toyota stays true to their roots. It should be just as good as any other products they produce. But like we have said, only time will tell if they are worth a damn or not. 😄
@YerBoyTroy4 ай бұрын
The 3.5 was designed to run at higher RPM's. Most people think its destroying itself at 6k rpm because its not a particularly good sounding engine. But thats what it was built for. The 2.4 internals are subjected to higher amounts of heat and pressure due to forced induction, and as a result increased thermal loading on the engine. Exposure to higher amount of heat and the more severe heat cycling is what eventually wears material down. You can design forced induction engines and have cooling systems compensate for the increased heat, but thats up to the OEM to design properly. This is an inherent disadvantage of a forced induction engine vs NA Even though the 3.5 is having to rev higher, its naturally going to run cooler over its useful life.
