You can always buy cheap supplies and mess around with them just to try stuff out - but I personally think it's better to buy not the cheapest stuff because that can just be frustrating to use (like dollar store paints can be bad sometimes) but you only need a couple of colors to start with :)

@@drawingwiffwaffles Most Welsome. I just wanna say that I was always a landscape artist and painted/drew nature-y things , mostly plants and maybe a few birds nd fish, maybe some still art- but never other animals or humans - ever. And for the longest time I just thought I was bad at illustration and portraits without having tried any, But your channel was a game changer. It always feels like we are on a ride inside your creative brain during each video and I got to understand the process and see why people were interested in character design and stuff. It actually made me want to try character design and I loved it and quickly progressed to portraits of pets and now I am attempting the first human portrait ever. I also didnt use acrylics. I would use watercolours, oil past5els, charcoal, pencil colours and oil paints but not acrylics. And I tried them out for the pet portraits after watching you dabble and I actually like them. Soo thanks! Please please make more acrylic paint videos.

I like your painting videos a lot, I like that you show that you can just try things and play and learn. Priming the canvas could smooth out the texture and prevent those white dots where the paint isn't in the divets. Thinner paints sink into texture more as well.

I took two semesters of painting at a community college, and the only thing the teacher would tell us is that we should paint and would learn as we did. There were no lessons about techniques or products (though we only used acrylic) even mixing colors. It was all about composition and ideas. I came out with an A in both classes and zero education in painting. I learned more about using acrylic paint from this video than I did in two semesters of that class. Honestly I learned more in the part where you painted your sketch, while swatching than I did in that class. I am so glad that people now have artists like you who are willing to teach, becasue not all teachers are willing to do it.

Great video as always! Not sure if anyone has answered your question about the boxes on the paint tubes, but here's a run-down: filled in box - opaque, half filled in box - semi opaque, and empty box is transparent. Royal Talens (the parent company that makes those paints you got) has a special semi-transparent symbol of the line in an empty box. It just basically means it's a little less transparent than a pain that's fully transparent. :)

I find it so interesting how Rin uses acrylic paint vs how I use it. Like she mixes almost every color. I’m very guilty of buying paint colors that look pretty or buying lots of variants instead of just mixing the primaries (even though I know how to). Rin is also very blobby with her first couple layers vs for what ever reason my brain is convinced I can’t do that 😂 it’s just interesting to watch and I kinda want to try it and get back into art again

tips for acrilic.. use a diluyent or water.. that helps to have more control over the paint and helps to cover the white texture. If the paint isn't opaque enough, start with the light colors. Block the colors first (like cell-shading), when you have all the colors you can start blending if you want and rendering things You would enjoy it more this way, take your time.. paint is something to relax haha Your last approach is the right approach. Watch the video again and look how calmed and slow you did the girl and how caotic and fast you did the plant
