In Japan there are ton of convenience store brands also known as combini, but we all know the big three, 7-Eleven Japan, FamilyMart, and *Lawson*.
I've personally been a big fan of FamilyMart while my friend ‪@SHUNchanjp‬ LOVES 7-eleven. So, after months of debating off camera, we decided to put to the test which convenience store brand in Japan.

Well it depends. While the USSM 7-11 branches are mostly notorious for various crimes and such, many in other jurisdictions don't fare well either, as in the case of my vicinity where the only connecting element is the staff, esp. the regular ones from where I visit every night. Everything else regarding that store branch, is another story......

Yooooo I've only lived in Japan for 1 month and I already decided 7-11 has the best food/snacks, Family has better selection of household products and Lawson is good at something! Their services like atm, printing, copying, document mailing, bill paying etc is their strong suit. I got really psyched when you agreed about the 7-11 food I was like WHAT DID I SAY to my friend lolll

The 7-11 food looks so good! The little cat dessert looked so cute. Where I am in the states they don't have prepared food, other than hot dogs/ pretzels/ muffins. They're really just for non-fresh foods, like bags of chips and cookies. If you want prepared food we have WaWa (North Eastern US thing)

I always thought 7-eleven looked better before going to Japan, but after a month I can wholeheartedly say familymart is alot better imo. I could live off their boneless chicken for the rest of my life.

before pandemic we travel to japan 1-2x a year for 5yrs. we both love 7-11 & family mart. THOUGH.. I MUST AGREE we prefer 7-11 during our stays there. the egg sandwich and onigiri we really like 😊 but for chiken we like the family mart. but coffee 7-11 is the best even better than starbucks!😁

Coffee drinkers unite! Shun is right, drinking coffee for a while you can start tasting the subtle differences and the flavors. You can even taste if the coffee is stale or if it is freshly brewed, and with enough time you can even start to tell which region of the world the beans originated from. I lived in Iwakuni for 2 years comparing the ones near my apartment, I can say that 7-Eleven has the better food, but Family Mart had the better beer selection lol.

The only consistent with Japanese 7-11 and American 7-11 is the coffee is better than it should be. You're likely to find a burrito from years ago in an American 7-11.

well usually the konbini's I go to are either very limited or look like they've recently been robbed, so I never had the luxury of seeing all those meals and desserts unless I'm visiting a supermarket.

I'm a foreigner and I visited your country last year to me lawson's and FM seemed about the same. I didn't see as many 7/11 as the formers. But from what I do remember from 7/11 their books were sealed. Side note: I'm sure this comment will be a 'hot take' and get me flamed but MOS burger was garbage however 'freshness burger was god-tier I had it twice once outside of Kyoto and again at either Shin-Osaka or Osaka station I forget which one. But again a 5/5 burger joint.

I love Japanese 7/11 too, 7/11 is the best

Depends on what you use them for. ・Famima has Famichiki, awesome seasonal Frappe, best tuna mayo makizushi (or whatever you call tube long uncut makizushi. I usually prefer them much more over onigiri since it has the filling all along its length) and some seasonal sweets like mini pound cake or financiers (matcha, lemon, banana flavored). But Famima wifi sucks the most (20min sessions only 3 times a day). Also Famima sarada chicken is the most expensive but not tasty. Good thing is that in case it has a table inside there will be an outlet to charge your phone for free. ・7/11 has the best unlimited wifi (used to download whole TV shows and Switch games on it) and the best sarada chicken. Occasionally has my fav matcha soft cookie. Sometimes has my favorite macaron ice cream but it disappears FAST. Good bottled tea variety. Often has "eat-in" aka table inside to sit. Has tasty fried sasami (chicken tender) but their regular fried chicken is bland and oily. 7/11s are usually more spacious than other kombinis but feels like it's kinda empty and has less goods in comparison. ・Lawson has cheap good eggs, macarons and dorayaki, macadamia nuts. But ice cream and deserts are usually meh. Lawson barely has all the new チロルチョコ flavors. Recently saw more and more Lawsons updating their copiers to newer touch screens so its not as pain to use. And you can finally scan and save documents directly on your phone without bringing a USB drive. But I hate that Lawson often doesn't have automatic doors and their toilets are tend to be dirty. ・MiniStop has its own made seasonal ice cream. But they are so rare here in Osaka that I don't even bother going. The nearest from me is 2km away. ・Daily Yamazaki sells small Baskin Robbins for those times when you're sick of seeing Häagen-Dazs and Godiva everywhere. But these kombini are usually very small and under-equipped, so going to the toilet there is more claustrophobic than the one on a plane. Also very rare in Osaka, only seen once or twice, and it's easier to just find a Baskin Robbins stand instead.

been almost 5 weeks in Japan now and as a tourist 7/11 is definitely the best one. their ATMs always accept international cards, Lawson never and Family Mart sometimes. Lawsons chicken nuggets are best though 😊
