@Nemesis10001 don't forget that they're comparing him to CB's ability to be a stretch 5. Bosh was shooting threes consistently in his last three seasons. So that's 3.5 attempts, 36% accuracy and 1.2 makes... That's 0.2 more than Sabonis is averaging this year. Not really that much of a difference. However, Sabonis is grabbing more boards and dishing out more assists, and it's not even close.

I would actually say that Dirk is the better scorer between him and Giannis. Giannis is of course historical when it comes to finishing at the rim but Dirk is still elite in that regard, and he’s also 100x better at Giannis in the mid range and at the 3. I’m still picking Giannis tho since he is the better passer and defender
@reillyhopf650819 күн бұрын
He's not a better scorer but he's a more versatile scorer. 2 points is 2 points. 3 points is 3 points. Yes, context matters, but Giannis has consistently finished higher among the league's best scorers than Dirk has and if he keeps up his pace, he'll have a scoring title which is something Dirk never came close to. And the reason his scoring is at another level this season is because he's an actual elite mid range scorer now. Its the same reason why you cannot justify putting KD over Jordan in terms of whose the better scorer. Yeah, KD is unstoppable and can score form anywhere on great efficiency, but which guy was scoring more relative to his competition, the guy with ten scoring titles or the guy with four?

Dirk is great and we can never take that away from him, but choosing between him and giannis? Come on bro, you can't just make an argument that dirk is better because he won a championship later in his career and he didn't have the supporting cast like giannis' family. In fact, giannis' ring is more impressive because he won earlier right? I know that dirk's championship run was harder but the fact that giannis won IN THE EARLY STAGE of his career is already the point of him being better because there's still lots of room for improvement + Giannis won more MVP, DPOY and continuing to be at the top 2-3 of the mvp race for like 5years up to this current day (if jokic didn't exist he most definitely be the face of the nba following lebron's footsteps.) Stop being PRIMACY BIAS, just because a player was great in the past doesn't mean newer players can never surpass them. Admitting a more recent player is better than the ICONIC other player does not take anything away from them, it's just simply how evolution works in sports. Newer athletes have more bag, scores more, and is more atlethic and you shouldn't decline it, in fact we should be more proud that the game is EVOLVING because of the influence of old gods who played the sports. (Not being recency bias... Lebron's my favorite player of all time but for me, MJ is the goat despite lebron having tougher opps, if our reference of choosing who's better is based on their accolade.)

Giannis putting up better scoring numbers because he's a freak athlete in the softest league of all time doesn't make him a better scorer than Dirk. It's like saying LeBron is a better scorer than KD when he can't shoot above 35% outside of 3 feet. I'm not having it. Dirk also never needed to facilitate the way Giannis does, not to diminish Giannis' passing which is solid. Don't get me wrong, Giannis is incredible... but he could never have done what Dirk did in 2011, especially with the way the game was actually played in 2011. It's Dirk. Giannis with all time context is hideously overrated to me when you consider that he's just a buff KG who's not as good on defense and has zero shooting ability. There's really never been a player who's benefitted more from the era he's played in than Giannis since like... Wilt?
@reillyhopf650819 күн бұрын
Giannis has consistently finished higher among his competition in terms of scoring compared to Dirk. The narrative that Giannis can't shoot has been quickly proven to be outdated as he is one of the league's best mid range shooters. And no, Giannis is not a solid passer. He's an all-time passing 4, this season the only bigs that are averaging more APG than him are Sabonis and Jokic and only Jokic has a higher AST% than him and those numbers do not fully contextualize his passing talent. Giannis is a better scorer, Dirk is more versatile. Giannis is a far better rebounder, passer, and defender. All-time greats are great because they take advantage to their era specific advantages. Doing hypothetical what-ifs like "Giannis could not have done what Dirk did in 2011!" are not logical, especially when Giannis has a championship run which, although his competition was clearly easier than what Dirk faced, saw him perform at an all-time level and a level that exceeded what Dirk was playing at.
@ridisulo297819 күн бұрын
@@reillyhopf6508that’s wonderful conjecture but take a few seconds to actually research before spewing nonsense. Gianni’s is an all time horrific shooter. He shoots many free throws and misses at a high clip. His 3 pt % is not adequate within the context of the modern game, and despite your nonsense he quite literally was the worst mid field shooter in the entire league in 2023 ( qualified # of attempts ). You also failed to address the way the game is played nowadays and how he faces zero defenders capable of physically imposing any will on him. Better rebounder? I hope so, he’s a physical freak playing alongside the worst rebounding center of all time in Lopez. I mean seriously, try critical thinking and research before voicing an opinion. Dirk is a better leader, a better shooter, a better scorer, and a downright better winner. The only thing Giannis does better is being physically gifted and blocking shots. That is quite literally it. Oh sorry, and he’s a better passer. Which is so damn important to his teams success and not a product of easy assists to shooters as a product of todays lame and derivative offensive game. It’s neither of their fault the era they played in, but it all scales favorably towards Dirk and his ability to produce towards winning basketball. And no, it’s entirely worth entertaining the fact that Giannis could not do what Dirk did in 2011. It’s a hypothetical that merits consideration since his ring is infinitely more valuable than Gianni’s’ historically weak ring despite his own elite performance. In short; do better
@reillyhopf650819 күн бұрын
@@ridisulo2978 You wrote a whole block of nonsense claiming a "lack of research" while ignoring your own hypocrisy. Read what I said again on his midrange. It's being proven to be quickly outdated. That implies recently and is in reference to this season. He's shooting nearly 54% on jumpers from 10-16 feet and 43% on jumpers from 16 feet to the 3 point line. For reference, DeMar DeRozan is shooting 47% from both of those spots. Want to know how I knew this? Because I actually watch the game instead of whining about how its different from the past. "No players who can guard him nowadays" What player in NBA history would be able to contain Giannis without the ability to just sit in the paint? Again, you fail to realize a basic idea that all-time greats are great because they take advantage of their era's weaknesses. It doesn't matter whose he's playing with, he's flat out a better rebounder. Why are you arguing for the sake of arguing? Let's use that critical thinking that you want to talk about and think, why exactly are his shooters open? Oh yeah, its because he's an impossible cover 1v1 and you need to have multiple bodies in the paint to stop him. Dirk never had that gravity because although he was an elite scorer, he could be contained in a 1v1 situation. In the past, building a wall worked because his passing wasn't at an all-time level. Last year, it took that leap, and you can't wall off the paint now. This year, his mid range means you can't sag off of him, meaning he's getting to the rim easier than ever which means teams need to put more pressure on him and oh wait a minute! He's an all-time passer now, so that creates even more chaos for the defense. Dirk finished #4 in scoring twice in his career. Very impressive. Giannis has done that or better four times in his career and is on pace to doing so for a fifth time by leading the league in scoring, something Dirk never came close to doing. Is Karl Malone a better scorer than Shaq? I mean, he had a mid range game while Shaq was all dunk man and couldn't hit his freethrows! Of course not. One guy was an elite scorer, the other was an all-time one. And I'm not arguing a totally subjective hypothetical. Giannis put up a top five performance of all-time in the finals in 2021. Only MJ, Lebron, and Shaq can claim to have peaked higher on the games highest stage, and that alone takes away any advantage Dirk might have with his post season success.
@ridisulo297819 күн бұрын
@@reillyhopf6508wonderful effort on sentence and paragraph structure. That’s all you accomplished with that little rant. A ~30 game sample size regarding ~25% of a players shot attempts needs to be taken with a grain of salt against the wider body of still recent contrary data, and none of which is in the playoffs where defense actually applies. You like Giannis. That’s great, I also like Giannis. I can still acknowledge that he’s playing in the weakest defensive era, in the weakest eastern conference against the weakest body of PF/C defenders we’ve ever seen in the modern game. You apply zero context to how heavily skewed stats are today vs the 00’s/10’s that Dirk played in. Zero effort to accurately analyze or articulate how to weigh these stats relative to their contemporaries and to each other for the purposes of this comparison. Absolutely Malone was a better scorer than Shaq. As is Durant over LeBron. As is Jokic vs Giannis. As is Curry vs Giannis. As is anyone within the top 15-25 scorers vs Giannis. They just can’t barrel down to the paint and get an almost guaranteed bucket. That’s not Gianni’s’ fault, but it’s yours for not applying context to understanding how we get those figures. KG shuts him down 1v1. Howard shuts him down 1v1. Ben Wallace shuts him down… you get my point
