Sinister Six was one of the few carts I owned as a kid that I couldnt make any progress on. I couldnt sell it either. It was more of a conversation piece for ny friends who had the newer systems. I had to at least be able to say I had spiderman games at home, whereas they had stuff like Maximum Carnage.

Say what you will about Home Alone 2, but I tip my hat to Imagineering's dedication to representing a historically accurate 8-bit version of 1992 New York City. Door men who try to strangle you, killer suit cases, the classic news stand p3do, and a bomb throwing front desk clerk? I have to respect it.

It took a surprisingly long time till developers caught on that people who keep buying these spider-man games might want to experience a fun time as spider-man. That they weren't buying them as some kind of performance art project where they deliberately bum themselves out.

@@jafooli Not much else really. After the hotel is the central park level, then the uncle's house that requires you to set off every trap against the burglars, and the final level (which is the shortest) in the city which takes you to a tall Christmas tree you have to climb.

When people say "video games used to be better..." Yup, same deal with movies, music, TV, books, etc. The new stuff might not be amazing, but when you go back to all the games that were rightfully forgotten, and actually compare apples to apples, the old stuff wasn't exactly kittens and rainbows either.

It's definitely got some jank but I don't remember ever getting stuck too badly or being completely clueless about what to do (tho nintendo power probably played a part). For a 1992 NES game. Spider-Man and the Sinister Six looks really underwhelming. The first Spider-Man game that I remember playing that I liked was the one on the Game Boy that was made by Rare. The other one was Spider-Man vs the Kingpin for the Genesis. Which was a game that gave me Revenge of Shinobi vibes. But not as good. I liked how you could cling to walls, and the mechanic of taking photos for money was neat. Maximum Carnage was OK, but there are many better beat em up's (or belt scrollers) than it.
