Which One Do You Use? | Mini Dapple Dachshund Dogs Gracie And Sapphire

In this video I am just discussing the collar verses harness debate, obviously harnesses are better but we have experienced some problems and would love to know your thoughts and experiences.
Our History
We were only getting one puppy, Gracie but then fell in love with Sapphire, Saffy for short and couldn't let her go. Mum is a black and tan and Dad is a chocolate dapple. Gracie is a silver dapple and Saffy is a silver dapple with white. We are fully aware of double dapple issues but she was not bred from two dapples and is very healthy so far. We would not breed from her either.

We just use the fabric harnesses on our daschunds, no real structure to them so no rubbing, but because they go through the legs and clip round the body no escaping either. Bijou wears her polo neck under her harness, and then her jacket on top which has a zip in the back for the harness ring poke through. At 3kgs she appreciates the extra layers in the cold! x

Just has to be the right fit-different sizes...I leave the collar on too but attach leash to harness....

Tried several harnesses now and definitely not comfortable for Saffy, now we use a halti which is excellent, no pulling and no pressure on the chest and neck, will do a video on it soon especially after the IVDD report from 2015 x

They’re so cute. Sorry I don’t really have any advice. I barely ever put Rocco on a leash because he usually stays close.

Thanks, Bella, Gracie and Saffy Momma. I had a Dachshund and he got out his harness. So I used the collar and he never pulled Me. So if the Babies still pulled I would use a harness. Can't wait for more videos Enjoyed and Blessings 🙏❤️🥰😇🐕

Always use a harness to avoid leach injury..

2015 IVDD report from 2000 Dachshunds recommend collars now, less chance of injury but it's a very personal decision and depends on whether your dog pulls ot not too, one of mine does despite lots of heel training x

I used a harness for all my Dachshunds. I don't like collars as they can easily put to much stress on their necks & throat. 💖🐾🐾💖

Had 8 doxie & yes the harness is better for keeping them control vs collars. Live in TX so best harness was light harness had nylon netting in it.

@@gracieandsapphire Fyi I think Ceaser, the dog whisperier; had influence in designing it but 3 of my doxies wore them till they went overthe rainbow so likely they are from this side of the pond. What I liked about them is some doxies are well rounded in chest area & some aren't but theyhave ways you can extend or reduce the length there. Living in TX once gets hot they don't like to wear much of anything in summer! 🥰 luv your doxies!

I think this is really interesting 🤔 so thanks for covering. I have been in a dilemma too, Teddie our boy has a great harness and it's very secure soo 100 per cent I would only walk Ted in his although I do sometimes attach his lead to his collar instead while we are out walking to encourage him to heal walk. Interestingly though our 9 Yr old Cavachon wouldn't ever wear coats harnesses etc but since we use 1 for Ted she stands & waits patiently and happily to get hers on. Having handles comes in so handy lifting them in & out of the car & attaching their seat belts. I will try to find out the brand they have been through the washing machine lots Xx

Thank you, yes, the handle does help as we go over lots of walls and we can just hold them better. Saffy is better with the collar and pulls less but probably because it's stronger. If you do find the make I'd love to know, thanks for watching and commenting xx

I like a harness for my beagles…but I do find that they are so hard to find a good fit

I prefer a harness but I'm having trouble finding a harness that fits well. Anyone have a particular one that is good for a Miniature Dachshund?

Gracie is a Belpro make in size small and I had to trim the excess off the straps and burn with a match to stop the fraying. The three point is good as she can't slip out x

I have "pretty paws" 2 sizes so if lower weight can slip out..More weight one size up..works very well...

My mini longhair dachshund Banger wore a harness when small then a collar until it rubbed the fur off under his neck. He now wears a mesh harness and does well with it as he does tend to pull. Oscar my standard dachshund wears a martingale collar. He doesn't pull but a regular collar will rub his fur off as well and he only wears it for walks. He wears a regular collar only for special occasions to attach a bow tie to. It makes him look very dapper and distinguished 🐾
