Which one should I buy? Caran d'Ache Neopastel, Neocolor II, Mungyo Soft Oil Pastel, Pentel?

Hello!
Today I'm doing a little review on different oil pastel brands, which includes Caran d'Ache Neopastel, Caran d'Ache Neocolor II, Mungyo Soft Oil Pastel, Pentel oil pastel.
I have been using Mungyo oil pastels for a while and I love using it, but then I'm also curious about the textures and colors of other brand, so I purchased a few colors from Caran d'Ache on my own. Since I also have Pentel oil pastels with me, I decided to compare the three brands to find out which is better, and I would like to share it with you here.
I hope this is helpful for those who are wondering what is the difference, pros and cons between Caran d'Ache, Mungyo and Pentel oil pastels, so you can have some ideas which oil pastel brand works for you or which one you are interested in trying out. Hope you enjoy watching! :) 💕

Thanks for this video. New to oil pastels and purchased the Mungyo/Hashi oil pastels earlier today. Glad I made the best choice. I used the Inscribe soft pastels for years during workshops and found they were great for newbies. The Inscribe/Mungyo/Hashi brand are the same for anyone wondering.

I'm not a big fan of oil pastels but I remember enjoying using them as a kid. There's also that art challenge of trying out a new medium you don't often use, so I recently ordered the Sennelier set after a lot of deliberation. I've been hoping to watch something similar to this video so I could make a better decision. I felt that it was calming to just read through your subtitles. I'm also interested in the water soluble pastels/crayons since watercolor is my favorite medium and I'm still on the fence about whether or not I should get Caran d'Ache set. Thanks for sharing this!

The neocolor IIs are fun. Definitely more in the water soluble pencil category than the oil pastel world for sure. I don't think you'd regret purchasing them.

The Neocolor II are not meant to be used like that. They are water-soluble. If you want a smooth blend, you simply add water to the mix. The textures they produce are simply beautiful. They also dry very quickly, so you paint a new layer on top almost immediately. You could use the Neopastel or the Mungyo for that second layer. Or even colour pencils over the blended areas. The Neocolor II are great for mixed media pieces.

Thank you for your comment :) My intention for this video is to show a comparison between different drawing mediums and how they turn out when using various drawing techniques. I focus on the differentiation between individual products but you definitely can add a second layer and combine Neocolor II with either Neopastel or Mungyo with your artwork, it really depends on your style and how you want your artwork to be. And I do agree that Neocolor II, and even the other products introduced, are great drawing mediums :)

​@Bycolaa sorry but theyre all oil pastels except the neocolor IIs yes? What other mediums were compared? I feel like I missed something.. besides the 1 wax pastel and the rest oil pastels.

I'm not sure if anyone else has already commented on this but the neocolor IIs are not in the same category/realm as the rest you are using here. They are a water-soluble wax pastel. The rest are traditional oil pastels. While they may feel somewhat similar, they're definitely not the same thing nor feel all that similar to even consider them the same or comparable. The neocolor Is however possibly could be, but their still wax pastels not oil pastels, they'll never do what oil pastels do and vice versa. Just a heads up

Neocolor ii are water soluble wax pastels…they are not oil pastels!
