I totally forgot my scope has touch...never used it until you showed it in the video...then I remebered.

As a newbie, this is an excellent intro to what to look for and why. And the bit of humour was good as well! Thanks

I have that same tablet scope (it's not called multicomp though), but it's the top one they offer and it has a different brand name-- but it's somehow exactly the same tablet scope: (called OWON TAO3104A) -- the "A" at the end stands for "accuracy-- and it denotes the fact that this one has 12bit and 14bit options for vertical resolution.. And it DOES have pinch to zoom. It's by far the best tablet scope I've seen yet-- better than the Micsig.. It's fantastic and I've only seen ONE video on it somehow.
@bald_engineer Жыл бұрын
Have you used the Micsig? I have only looked at the specs. What I think Multicomp/Owon did well with this tablet is basing it on the same software as their bench-styles. That way it is a full featured scope in a very portable form factor.
@calholli Жыл бұрын
@@bald_engineer I've never used a Micsig-- but I've watched a lot of videos about it, trying to decide if I want to buy it. The main downfall is that they are all 8 bit scopes; even the 2k dollen options.

I like the bench scope FYI, how does the one in your video cost about?

What scope do you recommend to take measurements of equipment that measures mains ac voltages?
@mmaranta7853 жыл бұрын
Get the tablet because it’s portable and battery operated for good isolation from the mains. This means you don’t need a separate isolation transformer. Trust me, I blew up a scope and the probes by measuring the mains once without being isolated!

The USB scopes mean you don’t have to worry about the custom display going bad. I have a Ted Tds220 from 1999 and the ccfl backlight went out

I take it Bluetooth 'scopes aren’t worth mention? I’m going round in circles trying to decide and it’s only 10 days to my birthday. Every so often Mrs H looks at me and asks: "Well?" in the same way my primary school teacher did when I was in trouble.

Now, instead of making an ad for this brand, how about the measuring accuracy of any scope... like the Tektronix scopes?
@bald_engineer3 жыл бұрын
Generically proving an oscilloscope's accuracy quickly turns into a fool's errand. The signal under test and how it gets probed have significantly more impact than the scope itself. People tend to look at 3 things: DC accuracy, timebase, and ENOB. DC Gain on a scope (any manufacturer) is in the signal digit percent range. Timebase stability is almost immeasurable [by most people] on any modern scope. And ENOB only applies for 1 specific frequency at a single attenuation setting. So what seems like a simple request turns into a confusing mess of measurements that cannot be compared between two scope models.
@BruceNitroxpro3 жыл бұрын
@@bald_engineer , Gee, I don't know anyone who would fail to compare a junk box scope with a Keithley and not be able to say one was better than the other. I can measure, using thirty year old tech the differences between two scopes with no problems or even using The Signal Path's level of mathematics.
@bald_engineer3 жыл бұрын
@@BruceNitroxpro Well, no one would compare any scope to a Keithley. Keithley doesn't make oscilloscopes.
@bald_engineer3 жыл бұрын
Now, if the real question you are trying to ask: "*how* do you compare scopes to each other," that might be an interesting topic. But I stand by my previous comment when it comes to *proving* the accuracy of a specific scope.
@BruceNitroxpro3 жыл бұрын
@@bald_engineer , LOL Right... but they use DDM circuitry, which the scopes ostensibly did. Good point, though! I think that my point was, "junk level vs. pro level" devices. But when the laughing stops, THAT was my point.

3:41 funny how you say this while showing one of the only usb scopes that isnt just the aquisition hardware. this is a clone of the owon vds line, which are actual, real oscilloscopes in these metal boxes that stream whats essentially the video to your pc. most others are actually just "dumb" analoge frontends that stream the adc values as fast as they can for whatever software to do the rest of the processing. many of these actually work with android devices so its mobile.
