Thank you! This helped a bunch :) Would you want to make a video on how to make coils more even perhaps? Yours look so consistent and mine are such a mess, and I can't figure out why.

Thanks for the compliment. I'll put this idea on the list! In the meantime, you might have better luck with a slightly thicker paper. Quilled Creations paper is almost like card stock and I find their paper gives me the smoothest coils, especially when I was first starting out. They sell on their website, quilledcreations.com.

@@ThePaperyCraftery Ah thank you! The paper I'm using is very thin. I bet that's just it!

Hi Meredith, Great info as usual, thanks. :) I was wondering if a small disc of cardboard pushed on to the end of the purple plastic needle tool (the one with the indented base) and pushed up against the base would help as it would then have a flat bottom to push the coils against to keep them flat as they are coiled. Just a thought that may help others who want the flat base but haven't found a wooden needle tool like yours.

Great idea! There's a similar product sold commercially called the Curling Coach. It's made of plastic and looks like a little gingerbread man, but it's meant to slide to the base of your needle tool so you can keep your coils flat against it. I did a review of it on my site a couple years ago, but the quality isn't really that great, so I didn't use it again. I like the DIY idea though! I would keep the disk on the small side so you don't bend it accidentally while you work.

A couple things might help: I don’t know what kind of quilling tool you’re using, but a lot of beginners use a slotted tool to get a tighter hold on their quilling paper as they roll it up. Also, thicker weight paper like the kind sold by Quilled Creations can be easier to roll and I think makes better coils. I also have a lot of rolling tips in this video 👉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bojCeX-Ni9B3lZI
