Would have LOVED to see you use the bigger antenna on the uv5g....I bought the UV-5G plus 2pack and the bigger antennas made a BIG difference in range/ clarity. At 4 miles my wife thought I was hiding around the block from our home and fooling with her about my location. It was Chrystal clear and razor sharp!

@@summerwindcharters1326 You’re right. I was trying to do the test “straight out of the box” without upgrading anything. I have plenty of Baofengs that came with the 771, but my 2 pack of 5g Plus models didn’t. I should’ve assumed every one else’s did and done it. Next go around I will do that. Thanks!

In a recent test I did with my TID H3 vs Wouxun KG-935g+, the KG-935g+ rocked it. The H3 could not be heard by the station 8 miles away from me, but the Wouxun was heard clearly. I even tested with the Nagoya 771G and Stock H3 antenna on both. KG-935g+ wins all day long. Nagoya 771G's all day long as well.

The SAME Antenna on the Radio's would have been a better test in my opinion but nice video :)

@@davidyummus6259 I used the antennas that came with the radios. I was trying to keep it as “straight out of the box” as possible with someone having to spend more money on upgrading the antennas. There are plenty of testing videos I do where I compare the stock to all types of 771’s in my video pile though.

Can you compare Tidradio to Wouxun with quality short and long antennas?

I've seen a lot of reviews of FRS/ GMRS radios, and I really can't weather one brand is better than another. On the other hand, If you can get your hand used or new old stock commercial gear, you would do a lot better at transmitting. Of course, you want to make sure the power is at the correct setting and your bandwidth is within compliance.
@FirstUnitedTactical2 күн бұрын
@Adamdaj Agreed on the used commercial gear. I have an old Kenwood handheld from the FD and it's as solid as a rock. Best TX and Rx I've ever heard, but different band of course. The overseas radios are decent for what they do, but will never compete with Kenwoods or Motorolas and that category.

Yup I can't hit anything with my UV5G plus. I've tried multiple different antennas. Of course I can go down the street and talk to my wife etc but no repeaters. Getting rid of those or keep them for close transmissions and traveling etc.
@FirstUnitedTactical3 күн бұрын
@michaelliebe5028 Well, you can still Rx correct? Use it as a scanner for 2 more bands while your main radio is on your primary channels. There are 2 repeaters I listen to in my area, and sometimes (during storms or late night weekends) I like to scan Fire/EMS. Using a second radio for those channels is a pretty good setup.
@michaelliebe50282 күн бұрын
@ I know it's my area I live in. I live in a very hilly area and the nearest GMRS repeater is around 20 miles away. I can hit it but not receiving. That repeater is high up on a hill but says it covers like 60 miles. I just don't think it's very active. I listen to Ham repeaters all day no problem and have done a radio check for emergency only and they got me loud and clear on a Baofeng BF-F8HP Pro. I'll try some more and drive closer to that repeater and see what's up.
@FirstUnitedTactical2 күн бұрын
@michaelliebe5028 That 8HP really does push 7-9 watts on 2m/70cm. It's a good little radio. Unless there's a really tall hill next to you, a repeater 20 miles away shouldn't be hard to hit. You will definitely hear more than talk to it because it's probably a couple hundred feet high, and 50w, compared to your handheld being less than 10 and 6' high. I can hear a 3rd repeater that's about 45 miles away and not able to hit it with a 25w base and base antenna. But the repeater that's 29 miles away I can hit just fine with a 5w handheld. Are you sure your tones are set correctly? Try this: if it's repeater 550 (channel 15 and repeater channels 23), put radio on 15 and just listen. Anytime anyone talks on that repeater, it's going to come through on the channel with no tones set. That will tell you if it's your programming on the actual repeater channel. Try that, if you haven't already.
@FirstUnitedTactical2 күн бұрын
@@michaelliebe5028 oh, and make sure you check with repeaterbook.com and mygmrs.com to ensure they haven't changed tones and you just have old ones....
@michaelliebe50282 күн бұрын
@@FirstUnitedTactical yes I check all the time. Same tones still. I have also reached out by email on MYGMRS to that repeater owner for approval and got approved a while back but he hasn't responded. @@1MinuteFlipDoc I preach ANTENNAS ANTENNAS ANTENNAS in all of my videos. It’s the number one thing you do when you buy a radio is throw the stock away and get a aftermarket tuned specifically for the band you are transmitting on. You should take a look at my other videos when you get a chance.

Gonna have to do my own comparison if this not-global-warming ever lets up. For the price, Windows-only programming is disappointing but at least they give you the ability to do just about everything from the keypad. Can't do squat on the 5G Plus keypad unless you turn off all the lights or throw a blanket over your head, and even then it won't let you name channels or edit the scan list. Pretty cool that the Wouxun's lock feature gives you the option to lock down more than just the keypad so you don't have to worry about "butt-dialing" the repeater. Can priority scan be used to mimic dual-monitoring or does it only work when scanning all channels? Like say, you want to leave the radio on channel 1 but also want to hear if someone starts transmitting on 19. Thanks for the comparison. BTW I tried a different pair of BT earbuds and the volume was normal so the radio wasn't the problem.
@FirstUnitedTactical3 күн бұрын
@@fondy44 Glad to hear a different pair of buds worked. I have always heard Anker is a good brand, at least on their chargers. There is a priority channel option, but I’m not sure if my priority channel (23) would automatically switch from channel whatever when someone keys up. I will try it this weekend though. Funny you mention the screen on the baofeng…..did I leave the part in the video where I couldn’t see the screen and I said “I can barely see the screen here!”. I’m not sure if I cut that out.
