Which Slingshot Should I Buy?

"How do I decide which slingshot to buy? There are so many!"
It's true. There are so many slingshots available on the market. And that really is a big part of the joy of slingshots. The funny thing is it is also true that if you stick to one slingshot and one bandset, you will surely see more consistent accuracy than you would if you decided to buy several slingshots and use several slingshots.
But as most of us know, once you are into slingshots you can't help but buy several different slingshots. Part of the fun of slingshot shooting is enjoying all the small differences in each frame. You've got slingshot frames that are ambidextrous, slingshot frames that are specific to one hand, slingshots in colors, slingshots in black, there's a slingshot in every style imaginable.
And part of the fun is trying them all out.
There are a few things to keep in mind, especially when you are choosing your first slingshot.
When you are choosing which slingshot to buy, consider these points:
1. Don't be obsessed over slingshot power.
2. Give slingshots with flat bands a try.
3. Use a slingshot with a wider fork gap.
4. Learn how slingshots work.
It doesn't matter how fast you missed your target. If you are missing because you can't control the bands, you're shooting the wrong slingshot. (Or maybe we should say you are shooting the wrong bands.)
Sure, flat bands might not last as long as tubes, but the combination of velocity and light draw weight make flat bands the perfect choice over tube band sets.
A pickle fork is not the best slingshot to learn on! A wider fork gap will be much more forgiving especially for a beginner slingshot shooter with an under developed pouch release.
Learn how slingshots work before you choose your sling shot. Don't use the slingshot that's best for you until you know how slingshots function. When you understand how slingshots work, you won't be tempted to buy a slingshot with gadgets and devices that will not help you at all. In fact, buying a slingshot with lasers will do much more harm than good.
When looking for the best slingshot to buy, look for a reputable manufacturer, choose a slingshot with flat bands, do not overpower your sling shot with heavy bands, use spherical ammo, and make sure you understand how a slingshot works before you buy a slingshot.
A great slingshot to start with is the Scout XT. This is the slingshot we usually recommend for starting off. The Scout XT slingshot has a nice stable handle and palm swell for a solid purchase. The slingshot accommodates several grips.

Any slingshot from SimpleShot is a great choice. The only slingshot we might not recommend you buy would be the Flippin Pickle unless you are an experienced slingshot shooter.

A wide fork and a grip which give you the opportunity of different kind of grips. In the beginning nobody knows which "shooting style" is the best for himself. Or simply the good old hammer grip. That's still good for beginners, in my opinion. Good video as always! Greets from Germany.

Hahahaha if youre like me you just buy them all. Just ordered the Hammer to finish my collection. If I would suggest a couple slingshots at Simpleshot, I would suggest the Scout XT as well. The fork gap is nicely sized to prevent fork hits, the frame handle is bulky and textured perfectly to fit any grown hand, and the frame accommodates Over the Fork as well as Through the Fork band positioning. Another slingshot frame would be the Ocularis, for the convenience of easily attaching or removing your bands. The handle on the frame is not bad either, but not as fitting as the Scout XT. Band thickness Id stick with .7 that's included with your Simpleshot slingshot or maybe even thinner depending on how comfortable your arm is shooting the prepackaged .7 bands. Ammo wise id suggest starting with Clay for the punishment for error would just be a puff of dirt on your frame or wherever, but if you're to practise indoors I would purchase some rubber ammo at their website or plastic ammo to lower the risk of breaking something in your home, or make a catch box for metal ammo. Youre gonna get addicted trust me lol

My top brands for good slingshots are Simple Shot, Pocket Predator, and GZK Band all have great products. And my top picks for each are Simple Shot: Axiom Ocularis, Pocket Predator: Hathcock Target Snipers, and GZK Band: Titanium Sideway TTF SS4.

I say buy a couple of simpleshot bandsets and cut your own tree fork for your first. Once you know you like slingshots then buy one. You get a certain kind of love with a natural, just my two cents...

My first slingshot (not counting the ones I had when I was a kid) was a Scout XT and I loved it. I quickly bought an EVO and I honestly think I transitioned to fast. Listen to what he said! I would have greatly benefitted if I would have stuck with the Scout longer before trying something new out. Thankfully, I did however finally learn how to shoot the EVO haha

Since you don’t know whether you will come to favor an OTT, or a TTF, make sure you get one that is both. Then think about your hand size and read the specs on the slingshot. Start out using it OTT, until you have have the basics down. An LT or XT would be a great choice. The Ocularis is great, but not for your first purchase.

The simpler the better you don't need all the distraction of all the bells and whistles a simple well made fork and good bands will amaze you with its accuracy after you've practiced with it for awhile. Also watch a few videos on KZbin on how to shoot a slingshot. Them have some fun.

Hi Nathan. I also believe it's important to buy a first slingshot that allows you to try both TTF and OTT... For some shooters TTF shooting comes more natural than OTT shooting and vice versa... Once you have determined which style comes most natural to you, I suggest you stick with that style while building your own style... Once you have built your style and confidence, you can go back and try the other style again... Maybe after you have built your confidence and style, you will like the other style more... That's what happened to me... Originally (after trying both styles, TTF and OTT) I felt more comfortable with TTF... After lots of training TTF style only, I tried OTT style again... Currently I can shoot both styles and OTT don't feel awkward to me like it did in the beginning... I still prefer TTF though but I can shoot both styles equal! Basically a first slingshot that allows you to try both TTF and OTT is like 2 slingshots in one! Try both styles and decide which style comes more natural... Then stick to that style to build your skills and confidence

Yes! It's great to be able to switch! Our Ocularis system allows TTF, OTT and in between! And the Scout LT allows the switch without swapping clips.

I bought a Ka-Bar Sweet Move Slingshot a couple of days ago. It's still in the mail. It appears to be durable, well designed, and it's 'Made in the USA'. It can use tube, or flat rubber. Is it a good one?

What’s the point of a laser on a slingshot? If you move the bands too up or down that could drastically change the position of the ball so the lasers useless unless you have the exact area to stretch the bands in which is extremely tricky! So why dont people use the sight and aim down the bands?

@@_g_520 Both blowguns and guns hav a barrel. And that's all the difference. There is no "barrel" to a slingshot. The ammo's position relative to the forks (what would be similar to a barrel, or even and arrow) is not static. A movement in the draw hand / anchor can happen independent of the frame hand. So a laser can never be effective. 👊

Well it all depends on what you're willing to invest in. They do offer The Hammer, which depending on the set you buy you can shoot both arrows and ball ammo with just minor adjustments. I'd look up the reviews here on KZbin.
