Well, I'm from Colombia (BTW is Colombia, not Columbia), and although I feel thrilled by people here saying they like "Colombian accent" there's no such a thing as "Colombian accent". We have many accents in Colombia, but I mean, like REALLY different accents. What you call "Colombian" is usually people from the center of the country (paisa, rolo, boyacense, santandereano, huilense, payanés y pastuso) whose accents might sound the same for foreigners, but we do notice the difference. From North to South we have: costeño (all Colombian caribean coast with some soft variations in the Guajira department), santandereano (Santander and Norte de Santander), Paisa (my accent :D in Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, and some parts of Tolima), Chocoano (Chocó and parts of Nariño and Cauca in the pacific coast), rolo (Cundinamarca), boyacense (Boyacá), huilense (Huila), llanero (east plains and the Venezuelan border), pastuso (Nariño), payanés (Cauca), amazónico (all departments from the far south area). Como to Colombia, you will be surprised by the many accents and cultures.

Our vowel sounds are weird in English. A lot of vowels get these weird schwas that sound like a U or /ə/ . I noticed this as a kid learning English in the US while having Spanish-speaking parents. And while I could pronounce Colombia with the Spanish vowels while speaking English I'd have to really pause and enunciate and not trip up on the L that also sounds different and I think the m is making me swallow that second O. Basically what I'm saying is that if I'm speaking English I'll anglicized all the vowel sounds. So, even I, who can speak conversational Spanish, won't pronounce it the way you want me to when the rest of the sentence is In English. And regardless of the Anglosphere saying words funny I still spell it correctly with two Os.

Good video. It goes to show you a lot of it is about a person's perspective. I personally find the German, Scandanavian, British, Irish, and American accents sexy, but we English speaking Americans are used to the rhythm of a Germanic language. Spanish and Italian sound really fast to us. I took Spanish in high school instead of German, but it works so much better for me to see Spanish written down, and German speakers I seem to be able to pick the words out better when they speak, even if I don't know what half of them mean. Because it sounds like 1000 words a minute to me, I'd probably be more inclined to think a Spanish woman was upset with me if she was speaking to me, which in my case is probably a pretty good assumption anyway.

I grew up speaking both English and Spanish. I can see where people think Spanish is fast but then when I taught ESL some of my immigrant students said they felt like English is fast. After all we do drop syllables and use a lot of contractions both grammatically correct one and not to hasten our speech. Wanna, gonna, ima, I think I’m just generally a fast speaker all the way around. Because I got into broadcasting I learned to slow my speech pattern a bit when needed. I think Italian is my favorite language as far as sound. I don’t like German or Dutch because less smooth more harsh to my ears.
