When I first heard about the TIE Phantom after playing Rebel Assault 2, I thought it was the most badass TIE variant ever designed. And when it appeared in Empire At War: Forces Of Corruption, I was super hyped for it. However, that game would also be my introduction to the TIE Defender (I had played the TIE Fighter game where it made it's actual debut, but I never got to that point because I got stuck in an earlier chapter). I see THAT thing in action, and my reaction is, "Oh, wow. This TIE is a fucking MONSTER!".

I think having visual cloaking would be a pretty significant advantage, especially in combat. Outside of combat, detection normally happens at long ranges, where sensors are much more important than visual scanning. However, we see that both in fighter combat and capital ship engagements, visual observation is an important part of combat; in terms of fighters, we see, for instance, in the Battle of Yavin that the Rebel pilots in particular are heavily reliant on visual scanning to spot and track TIEs. In capital ship combat, you only have to look at the bridge of most capital ships (like the Profundity from Rogue One, or the Venator or Providence classes in the clone wars), and see those giant windows which are an obvious structural weakness that would not exist if it didn't provide some advantage. The Phantom and the Stealth Ship would therefore have a huge advantage over the others; the Stealth Ship, for example, would be easily spotted visually if it tried to pass through a blockade with cloaking off, even if enemy sensors were inoperable. I'm not comfortable saying that the Ferret and the Stealth-X are "the best pure stealth vessels" for that reason. I also think the Stealth-X should have beaten the Ferret to the number 3 spot because it does at least have some ability to defend itself in the event that it does get spotted.

1. Scimitar Maul was so well outfitted in Phantom Menace. Everything he had was legit. Those stealth droids, that bike, the double bladed lightsaber... but a cloaking ship that small?! The old cannon also had another version of cloaking that was double-blind but necessitated more space for the equipment that smaller ships couldn’t fit. Hybridium? “No ship that small could have a cloaking device”. The Stygian system was better because they couldn’t see you but you could still see them in addition to the ability to be used on smaller vessels but were incredibly rare and outrageously expensive.

By using some actual battle tactics, instead of just fighting them head-on. The AT-ATs are powerful and durable, but they move slow and can only fire at things in front of them. By hiding some powerful weapons on the sides of the battlefield and waiting for them to go by before launching a surprise attack, they can safely hammer at them from the sides and from behind. Also, don't fly the snow speeders in front of them, instead have them circle around to attack them from the sides and from behind. And maybe put some bombs on the snow speeders so they can do some real damage. Or just use X-wings instead of the snow speeders to tear them apart.

The fighters were far more powerful than the modified T-47 speeder so here is how I imagine the conversation for the defense of the evacuation of Hoth went: low ranking officer "General, We have no time to pack up the T-47 Speeders for evacuation, so should we blow them up and tell the pilots to defend us in their X-Wings, Y-wings (and maybe A-Wings)?" General "No lets use the much less powerful T47 and have any suviving pilots run to their X/Y/A-Wings to escape after the battle" Low ranking officer "Sir are you sure, The X-Wings and Y-Wings are faster, more agile, far better armed, better armored and have sheilds, the pilots would be much more likely to suvive and much better able to defend us in X-Wings or Y-Wings, not to mention that there may be too tew suviving pilots to take away the snubfighters meaning we could loose a lot of our grounded snubfighters" General "you have your orders" Low ranking officer "yes sir" walks away and mutters "idiot"

@@TheAussieNinja84 It's called The End Of the Cycle it's basically like a Chaos God that eats the majority of your empire and spawning a bunch of avatars in your systems.

@@TheAussieNinja84 When you finish Psionic Ascension, you eventually gain access to The Shroud, which is something of a less malignant/pre-Necron Immaterium. You can communicate with entities within it about every ten years to receive RNG-based boons or curses. That, or you get a ~1/200 chance to form a covenant with one, and only one of several of those entities. The entities' names are The Weaver of Strands, The Instrument of Desire, The Eater of Worlds and The Whisperers in the Void. All of them provide substantial bonuses in one area or another, but each of them tells you: " *There* *will* *be* *a* *price* *to* *pay* ", with the price depending on your patron, and generally being managable. Then there is the End of the Cycle. If you get it, it will offer substantial bonuses to basically everything for exactly 50 years, but below all of those bonuses it reads in friendly, red letters: "There will be a Reckoning". If you choose to accept, every one of your planets, habitats and ringworlds that you own at any point within those 50 years will receive the Shroud-Marked modifier, which reads: " *Something* *very* *bad* *is* *going* *to* *happen* *here* ". After the 50 years are up, _something_ happens. I will not say what, but remember how I compared the Shroud to the Immaterium/Warp earlier? Just use your imagination for that one.

For 40k and Starcraft, the Prethoryn wouldn't be that much different from Tyranids and Zerg. I don't think the Contingency would get a lot of traction in 40k because there is not much ai for it to take over. Depending on time period it could be devastating in Star Wars (imagine if it happened during Clone Wars). I think for Star Trek it would depend whether the standard ship computers are close enough to Stellaris' sapient ones. Mass Effect's Reapers are already kinda like Contingency except that it works on organics.

I would have a stealth ship made like Mass Effect's Normandy SR2, have the Republic stealth ship's cloaking device, class 0.5 hyperdrive, 6-8 medium turbo laser's, 10-12 point defense laser's, 4 proton torpedo launcher's with 15 torpedoes in each, and have something like a light mac cannon up front for heavy damage with a pilot, co-pilot, and 8 ship maintenance crew with a troop capacity of 50-60 trooper's its main role is recognizance and sneaking into enemy territory while possible dropping off supplies, armor and personnel/troop's into enemy territory

One thing about the Stealth-X that you missed, it used special engines and/or fuel that greatly reduced the engine efflux trail, one of the easiest ways for enemy spotters or gunners to detect the ship with the scanners we all have from birth, the Model one, Mark zero Eyeball.

Pre-Jaylah Borg vs the Forerunners and Ancient Humanity. AKA the ones that were physically stronger than organics and could adapt to technology and weapons extremely quickly and can self repair ships. Anti-Trekker did plenty of videos on the Pre-Jaylah Borg and how powerful they truly were. The Borg at the start appears on the edge of the galaxy and starts with 250,000 Borg cubes where they at first bulid stations and other Borg platforms in near by systems and at this point they at first expand slowly but after their discovered they start expanding aggressively due to seeing the Forerunners and Humanity as a threat.

The ghost (not sure on exact stealth systems, but hera seemed to indicate the ship itself beyond her own skills was well-equipped for escaping sensors and whatnot) and the scimitar both come to mind.

There were a decent number of TIE Phantoms that went "missing" after the fall of the Empire, I'm surprised none of them ended up in the hands of bounty hunters.

As much as I grumble about the TIE/PH being second, I do agree, since it would have a hard time taking out a capital ship, and it cannot ferry supplies.

A ship that might have been put on the list is an old republic ship that the sith empire used known as the X-70B Phantom. It had limited cloaking capability, but what made it formidable was it's profile and extensive sensor suites. Point of fact the F-35 Lightening would be the modern day equivalent as it may not have the best physical radar cross section when compared to the F-22 and F-117, but it's multi-spectral radar array can be utilized to inhibit enemy radar detection by sending phantom blips or even straight up jamming it by overloading the data input and causing radar to read nothing. The X-70B's sensor suite would probably be able to the same if not more sense it's built and given to only intel operatives or highly important individuals such as Dark Council members and those with in Sith Intelligence. People who employ such tech in this manner to get closer for intel gathering and/or surgical strikes and to slip away or interfere in weapons tracking before jumping out the of the engagement zone.

Star wars: the ferret is a non combat ship with weak hull and no weapons that sits in one place for long periods of time. Real life: ferrets are agile predators with tough bodies and sharp teeth combined with an effective combat style, they are also incredibly energetic and can't stand still for long.

I think the TIE Phantom is the best one. Starfighters with 5 laser cannons (2 of which the gunner can aim somewhat independently of the ship's direction) can do a lot of damage to capital ships. Gun turrets are going to have a very hard time attacking maneuverable, shielded fighters appearing out of nowhere. But I do get your point about the versatility of a cloaking corvette. A bomber version of the TIE Phantom could be rad, though. BTW About your questions: I am pretty sure the cloaking ships are actually intended to be cloaking ships. They even have stories behind them about them cloaking. The Empire had a prototype cloaking CR-90, BTW.

I think the Phantom outpaces the stealth ship for one very important reason: they were mass produced. The stealth ship was used only in a handful of missions that it was suited for. The Phantom on the other hand would have been a major boost to the Empire's military might, on par with that of the Dark Trooper project. The Rebellion seemed ready to max out their life insurance plans should the TIE Phantom project be completed (although between Dark Forces and Rogue One, that seemed to be a monthly occurrence), the stealth ship on the other hand seemed to be only a source of minor irritation to the CIS with the odd Admiral being outsmarted by the crew.
