I asked a "cake maker" at Meijers to write "Happy Birthday" on a cake. I'll just call her Linda. She started freaking out and telling me that she couldn't write and I said, "That's okay, it doesn't have to look perfect!" Well, she starts writing while apologizing. She stuck her tongue out in concentration. After FIFTEEN minutes she hands an illegible cake back to me looking humiliated. She apologized again and I said, "No! It looks amazing! Way better than I can do." I've never seen a woman look so happy before. Her smile reached both ears and she looked very proud. Finally, I bring the cake home to my dad. It turns out that my sister bought him a cake too, without me knowing. When we saw eachother's cakes, we burst out laughing. We both had a cake with the same-ass cruddy handwriting. We both went to Meijers and had Linda.

I found his reaction funny, my birthday is St.Patrick's Day and I'm Irish. Not gonna lie when I was younger I definitely had a cake for my birthday, at least once, that was St. Patrick's day themed that said Happy birthday. Cake aside, I can't tell you how many birthday cards in my life I've gotten that specifically say both Happy Birthday and St. Patrick's Day on it (usually with some kind of leprechaun or pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on the front). I get at least one a year from somebody, family or friend, that says both. It's funny at first until you realize companies don't make a wide variety of both St. Patrick's day and Happy birthday cards so I've gotten the exact same card before from different people because its the only one of its kind in the store lol.

I used to be a cake decorator at Walmart and I can tell you that the bakery hardly ever picks up the phone. The baking and decorating schedules are so crazy, the noise from the ovens and pans make it hard to hear the person on the line anyway, and honestly there are usually so many cake orders coming from people walking up to the counter that 95% of the time I refused to take phone orders. It's unfortunate you didn't try going to the counter because even though I dislike Walmart as a company, their cakes are very good and the decorators are usually great. The one I worked at had an airbrush machine which let me make some really cool effects. I miss it!

I work as a cake decorator at a grocery store. A 8 inch round cake could easily have a checkered pink background, with your face hand drawn, and misspelled Happy Birthday. Also when we take cake orders we try to make sure that the customers will have a great looking cake.
