Fun fact about Red Skull, there's actually a french parody sketch where Red Skull accuses Captain America of calling him a nazi without any proof, much in the same way nowadays Neonazi defend themselves. Cap then proceeds to point out all the obvious things that indicate he's a Nazi (him having Swastica on his wall, him openly calling himself a nazi in an interview, his portrait of Hitler on the wall...) only for Red Skull to each time dismiss them by providing blatantly false excuse. At the end, Cap begrudgingly pretends to recognize he was too harsh calling him a Nazi.... and then kicks his ass anyway because as he points out, Nazi or not, Red Skull still is a supevillain hellbent on world domination.

I think an important thing to remember about Doom is: He knows Hell is real. He's been there. He's suffered it's torments (In silence, at that). And when you consider that, the fact he knows that "Sin" will get you cast into endless torment, within the Marvel cosmology: His desire to make an absolute police surveillance state becomes pretty understandable. The only way to save people from that unimaginable horror that he Knows exists is to ensure they never, Ever, commit those crimes. And he knows that in creating such a world, he dooms himself. And he accepts that. He will guarantee his soul goes to hell, if it saves others from that fate. And what hero has ever made a sacrifice on that scale?

Magneto has good intentions and the right ideas, but is too damaged by his trauma, both from his Jewish experience in Germany and later from his understanding of early mutant life, to be really unbiased and evenhanded in the application of force to go along with his moral prescriptions. On the other side Charles is more humanitarian, but too afraid to take truely bold steps and strong choices, choosing the moderate position every time even as mutant rights backslide, and even doing terrible things to preserve the status quo, like sending Wolverine to kill a child who has a mutant ability that kills everyone around him. Charles and Magnus better each other, magneto has the scope and far future planning ideas, while professor X keeps him grounded and thinking in terms that can be foreseen and planned. Like Lolth, he's a Chaotic Evil menace who creates tightly controlled, Lawful Evil empires where everyone ELSE has to follow insane rules that don't apply to the leadership at all, and even those who do follow the rules will still be discarded or destroyed on a mad whim. What scares Hank Pym about Ultron the most is that Ultron IS Hank Pym, sans any humanity or sense of restraint. (also, wanting to remove all variance isn't True Neutral- it is Lawful Neutral at best, with Ultron exempted because his motivations for such are extremely petty and insane).

This is an interesting idea for a video for sure. I'm sure you have a lot of video ideas lined up, but if it struck your fancy I wouldn't be opposed to an eventual part two, maybe looking at villains who haven't ruled before or lesser known or slept on villains with interesting moral and world philosophies that would be potentially fun to speculate what them having a large degree of power to rule might look like.

You know, your video has actually inspired me to consider which superhero would be the best president or political leader. Its really interesting to consider how each hero's personality would effect how they would operate as a leader. My preferred popular candidates would be The Thing (Ben Grimm) for Marvel and Superman (Clark Kent) for DC Comics, but my my more obscure favorite candidates are Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) and Nightwing (Dick Grayson) respectively. Though, you are right that no one can compete with Sauron. We should all unite and give our dinosaur overlord the support he needs to make the world a better, more primeval place.

It's pretty damning to The Joker that he has a worse rating than Ultron, and you're confident no one will argue against you. "Apocalypse has mellowed out somewhat" knowing what it's liked to be drained by a life force drainer to death and knowing worse is coming form you if you don't learn to play nice will do that to do a guy. As a not really DC fan, explaining In Justice as The Bad Future or Red Son, yeah, that sounds pretty bad. I knew Sauron was a joke, I just wasn't sure how far you were going to take it. Sauron's the reason Rogue almost went and donated her DNA to cause that would sterilize mutants, just because she found him that disturbing and never wanted to be like him!

I can't stand Loki in Ragnorok. But a lot of that just has to do with how bad the MCU were with keeping Loki consistent. It makes Tom have a rather good job keeping the character entertaining, but also means that balls and character traits are dropped all the time. I also have to debate Ultimate Reed Richard having never been a stand up guy. When he started, he was basically one of the nicer, more empathic, characters in that universe. When he thinks he's done wrong, that he'd hurt someone, He goes out of his way to make ammends. Look at the Ultimate Power Crossover event there. Dude know that his actions couldn't have caused what was claimed, but let his emotions overcome his rational mind and guilt him into believing so till proof otherwise is shown. Yes, he is prone to anger, rashness, and arrogance even in the beginning but nothing that would exclude most people to not believing 'he's a stand up guy'. To me, the Maker is a great villain. Whenver he shows up they do something really interesting. But that's in spite of his current character not resembling his prior self as much as it works to be a Evil Main-verse Reed Richards. The man who within that decade was part of a group to use mind control agents... and the Skrull Cow thing. Never forget that one. On the actual video itself. I liked it. I felt you have a grasp of all the characters you've chosen to look at in how bad they would rule the world.
@thecactusman17Күн бұрын
I see Doom, Magneto and Loki as quasi-antiheroes because when you look at them, they are each a portrayal of a noble value taken to the extreme. Doom is Loyalty. Magneto is Justice. Loki is Liberty. But without the balance of other factors they swing wildly from benevolent to tyrannical as events unfold.
@nathanl86222 күн бұрын
I think the key distinction for characters like Lex and Doom is they want to save the world. As in, they specifically want to be the one who saved it. Doom's about as good a tyrant as you could hope for, but his ego means he can only ever be a tyrant. Any reform would require Doom to cede power or acknowledge someone had a better idea than him, and that simply won't stand.

@tomhur1 hence why I included the "and the MCU". My family (especially my mom) loved it when it came out. The issue was, since Thor succeeded with Ragnarok after struggling in the first two movies, producers and all said "okay, just do that with everything!" Hence marvel humor getting as annoying as it did. They just let watiti do what he wanted after Ragnarok, and everyone else followed the formula.

You're wrong about the Maker. The City he created wasn't cruel in any way. And originally he ruled as part of a counsel, though he was first among equals. Children were taught high level math almost immediately after they're born. The reason they turned against was unbelievably stupid: Iron Man's sentient cancer somehow hacked the AI that ran the City and the Maker didn't have a backup.
