What gives the uke its charistic sound is the reentrant G string, which is higher than the C and E strings. Some people prefer to use a "low G" string so that it plays more guitar like, so you can buy sets of either.

I bought me about 5 years ago a KALA Solid (just the TOP is the Solid part) Spruce Mahogany Long Neck Soprano (Model: KA-SSLNG). This is excellent because it has the classic Soprano sound but a concert long neck that allows you to play more notes. Amazing little Uke!
@jukes44992 жыл бұрын
Since he didn't say it in the video, the U-Bass by Kala is tuned like an electric bass (E-A-D-G), has rubber-like strings, and has electronics. Also you can get it in different woods, with 5 strings, or fretless.

I love my baritone uke’s! I use two now. Larger scale makes is so easy for full fingered folks. One is set up with standard DGBE tuning but the other is set up with Aquila 23U Strings in high GCEA tuning. Actually I’ve found that if you are using the GCEA strings, you could tune down to DGBE and it still sounds pretty good although it’s so convenient to have the two ready to go. The baritone with the GCEA strings sounds pretty amazing, especially if it’s a good mahogany or koa ukulele.

Yew Kah lay lee. When it comes to traditionally acoustic instruments like ukulele or sitar for example I've often found that "electrifying" them takes away much of their unique sound and that one is probably better off trying to make their guitar sound like those instruments than buying an electric version of them. There are obviously ways to amplify/mic acoustic instruments, I am specifically talking about instruments like the so called electric sitars/ukuleles.
@Miracle7Seven4 жыл бұрын
Not to be a downer, but the size difference with soprano - tenor, doesn’t make the sound any deeper, but more resonate. Now baritone, with the appropriate string set, is actually deeper. Also your hand size doesn’t matter. My big fat fingers can play a soprano perfectly, and even get to the higher frets with no trouble. Now with that said, you should definitely look into getting a ukulele. Everyone should have a ukulele.

Hey! How easy was it to learn? I want to pick up something easy then eventually move up to a guitar - even tho i love the range and versatility of the baritone, im worried the baritone is harder than the other ukes lol. Also- can i play the cheery songs you’d usually associate with other ukes on it? Thanks so much!!
@kieraflowers99283 жыл бұрын
@@kbushehri I was learning it as I was learning the guitar and a lot of it is transferable due to the set up. It has the top 4 strings of the guitar (DGBE) and if you add the capo at 5, you’ve pretty much got a ukulele sound (GCEA) so you can play songs associated with it too. It’s helped a lot with my guitar playing especially for soloing, and even for music theory. It has made it a bit hard to go back on to the guitar because I’m comfortable with the baritone and so when I’m playing the guitar, unless it’s a barre chord, and the normal open chords, I tend to neglect the bottom two strings (EA) so be aware of that. But that’s my own experience. I hope it’s helpful to you! Any other questions, just ask 😊
@kbushehri3 жыл бұрын
@@kieraflowers9928 omg thank you so much! I did not expect such a detailed response. My hope is to one day be able to use the entire guitar including the EA strings lol. You will get there too, I’m sure. I actually do have a few questions before I go ahead and order a baritone😊i hope you can answer them for me. How far do you think I’d get on a baritone in say, 6 months? I hear people say they “mastered” the ins and outs of a ukulele in 6 months, im wondering if the baritone is the same way. If its not, i might want to get a regular ukulele since the whole point is wanting something easy to start with. Also, are you self taught? If so- do you have any recommended youtube channels / resources? Im especially interested in fingerpicking, if that matters.😊 Thank you!!!

@@soundknight not really. I'm not a fan of ukuleles by any stretch, but being in Maui it seemed appropriate to give one a try, and when I saw the 8-string, and heard how it sounded more like a mandolin than the usual thin ukulele sound, with the mellow tone from the nylon strings, I was impressed.
@revdocjim20023 ай бұрын
Others have probably already pointed it out multiple times, but the scale length of a baritone is not 30". That's the overall length. The scale length is usually 19".
@hopefulhyena34003 жыл бұрын
"Is it a bass ukulele" The Kala U-Bass is actually a contrabass ukulele. RN the only company that sells a "true" bass ukulele is Luna, and I can only assume it's because nobody wants them. I mean I do but I'm nobody. Contrabass tuning is the same as a bass guitar, while bass tuning is the same raised by an octave. That makes it the same as the bottom four strings of a guitar, which you may also know from the CBG world as "arkansas tuning". If you want a bass uke but you don't wanna buy from Luna, you can buy a contrabass from kala and restring it with guitar strings, though if you want that change to be permanent you'll want a professional luthier to replace the nut so that you have an appropriate action.
