Hey Jamie, great comparison videos on your channel. The Spectrum 128k version of Rastan has music and also loads the full game in one go. As is the case with most other 128k versions compared with the 48k

yeah I loved Rastan in the arcade as a kid, and when I finally got my hands on the C64 version... well, it was Double Dragon pain all over again. Some heavy hits we took as kids back in the day, but thankfully the C64 had a big library to choose from :) Very nice soundtrack though, I totally agree, Galway must have felt crushed upon playing it when it was all done.

Great video! I spent a lot of money on Rastan Saga when it came out in the arcades - it was absolutely my favourite arcade game. Always wanted an Amiga version - and soon we'll be getting one! Can't wait for it - it looks excellent.

Yup. I did a demo play of this a while back. It certainly looks and plays well.

Absolutely loved this game in the arcade, you knew where you were when you walked into somewhere and heard that definitive music and sound effects, it was always one of the loudest arcades. Great great game, I had this on my Speccy but I could never get it to play, had 3 copies of it (official tapes) it just didn't want to play for me. Emulators gave me what I wanted 35 years ago. Love these vids mate. 💪🏼

Over the years I have come to appreciate the Master System version more and more. The presentation could be a tad better (the collision detection is sometimes a little off) but the balancing of the difficulty is quite perfect and the overall mood of the game is unique and pleasant. Ethereal, kind of.

Maybe an emulation issue with the Apple version as it's usually pretty smooth. This was my favourite game growing up, hammered it in the arcades until I got a Master System then I could play it every day at home. The MSX version always gets underrated to glad to see you gave it some love, plays really well when you get used to it. The SMS version was developed by Taito btw.
@JustJamie19834 сағат бұрын
I just rate as I see and play them. It is an issue with emulation. Solved it with some guidance from a subscriber.

Although the CPC version was very slow there is no denying that it had the best looking sprites of the 8 bit versions. Just look how good the enemies look. This could have been a great version with some extra time and "love" but all these conversations were somewhat rushed.
@JustJamie19836 сағат бұрын
Absolutely. The sprites were really nicely done. But yeah, many conversions were rushed big time.

I was likewise happy with the C64 version. It's been a long time, but I'm certain I at least made it to the 2nd castle. One thing I do remember that disappointed me was the box had arcade screenshots on the back. Man, I was dumb expecting THAT from my C64.

@JustJamie1983 yes used to use a trick pausing it by pressing the space bar during jumps which probably didn't actually help at all only ever made it over the fire ropes 3 times I know it was said to be glitched and impossible but I made it 3 times lol
@JustJamie19836 сағат бұрын
@frankfortfcgoc well. You certainly did better than me.

I used to to be able to get to the first boss on c64 as a kid - I don't know how, I replayed it recently and that first rope section felt impossible. Unfortunately, while I never got there myself to try, the c64 version is known to be literally impossible to complete without a no collision cheat because on stage 4 a rope will swing you directly into water.

I played the arcade version a couple of times when I was a kid at the closest mall then shortly after the machine disappeared and I never saw another one.I loved the game but could never remember what it called only what it looked like till it was released as part of the Taito collection for the PS2 about 15 years later.Since it was never ported to the NES and was a very uncommon arcade machine there's very few people in the US that ever had a chance to play Rastan until the PS2 release.
