I've watched a good few videos on this subject and they all seemed to use such different variables that didn't make the test very accurate or "scientific", so I appreciate that you went about it in as scientific a way as possible. Obviously controlling for bottle size across the board is one factor that couldn't be fully controlled in this case, lid type as well, but this is a very good test imo. Especially since you did it 3 times. That's huge. Thanks again for doing this.

Great review but would like to know which ones are less toxic. With so many using recycle material which introduces processing agent or chemical residuals in the finished product...it would be nice to know which ones are less toxic.

So I just posted a video about the safest water bottle materials that goes into some of that type of information. It's more of an overview of the different materials like plastic, stainless, glass, and a few others, including talking about which bottles have lids that avoid plastic on the bottom that can come in contact with your water. I didn't get too much into brand-by-brand manufacturing differences (like klean kanteen's stainless vs hydro flask's stainless) since that can be really hard to determine and verify beyond each brand's marketing material, but I still hope to do that more in a future video!

@kainanna8280

You can actually avoid assuming if the effects of the volume does in fact have an effect on the rate of ice melting by having similar bottle sizes for each flask and using data analysis such as ANOVA, and a post-hoc DMRT.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yea, our insulation test was admittedly a little rudimentary in this video and was meant to just get a general idea of the results, but we hope to improve the testing in an upcoming update video. I hadn't thought about using more of a statistical approach like this. Thank you!

Thanks, hopefully the videos have helped! Yea, the TKWide caps should fit fine with any TKWide bottle size. We've only tested the 32oz, but from what we've read on Klean Kanteen's site, the TKWide caps are compatible with any of the TKWide bottle sizes. I reached out to Klean Kanteen to double-check and will update this comment in a day or two if this is incorrect. And be sure to get a TKWide series bottle since the cap won't fit in any other Klean Kanteen bottle types!

I honestly don't know. I've wondered the same question as you ever since I read that link from the Washington Dept of Health about copper piping. It seems like both copper and plastic piping can have drawbacks and leaching of some kind, and I don't know which is better than the other. Kind of concerning, but there's not a great alternative so I don't really have an answer. Too bad we can't realistically have glass piping like we have glass bottles, haha.

Yea, you're correct! We realized that when making our most recent video, and we'll be sure to point that out moving forward. The different test results are likely due to variations in the ice that our repetitions didn't average out or possibly the lids, and we're planning an updated insulation test video that is more controlled.

@@bottlepro3252 On the takeya actives, I have a spout lid and it's insulated. Just on the actives style, not the other styles. I hadn't seen the insulated lid before on any bottles, ever, but I did find another brand in your viewer's comments that offers insulated lids: coldest. I don't know how new it is. Usually the lid is the weak point in the insulation. I have way too many insulated cups/bottles because I too am a bit infatuated with them, but I'm not up to date with what's available because they're expensive! Just looking for the perfect bottle/cup for my needs. I am all impressed with the insulated lids though. :)

Yea, glad you noticed that! We had them in our first insulation test video because that was the first time we noticed triple layer bottles, and we wanted to give it a try. But they seem to be selling through their inventory and that's it. Some listings are unavailable, and they don't have many variations. Because of that, we didn't include them in our more recent videos, including our insulation test pt 2. But we did get a few other triple layer bottles to test in luxe's place after looking around more at which bottles use that technology too. Thanks for the comment!

No one wants to keep a single block of ice cold in their bottle. Test how these bottles will be used practically. The most significant heat exchange with bottles like this is the lid which you excluded in this test.
@bottlepro3252
@bottlepro3252 Жыл бұрын
For sure, people would use more ice in practical situations. But the single, consistent block still gives us an idea on how they compare. And you're absolutely correct, the lid is very important for insulation. The mouth diameter may be even more significant than the lid style. We tested how well triple-layer insulation helps with heat transfer through the walls in our more recent insulation test, and our next one will focus on lids and/or mouth diameter. But because there are so many different bottle styles and brands, it'd be an extremely long test period and video if we did everything we wanted to in one video. Hard to justify that yet when this blog is still a side project, so we're taking it one step at a time!
