In regards to Etho thinking he has lag because of the shield, there’s actually a built in lag time between when you bring up your shield and when it starts blocking things. It’s one of the weirdest game design decisions imo.

its not really lag time, its just how minecraft items work, some items take some time to deploy like axes to make weapon switching less op

I make a bucket as my second iron item after a pick, but before weapons and armour because they're so useful. I fell in four of those traps Etho fell in - the first one surprised me and killed me, the rest I was ready for and used water to get out really easily because it breaks the webs as well as allowing you to swim out.
