when the bush birds cease their singing
as the sun light fades away
when the curlews break the stillness
with their sad and mournful lay
round the campfire bright and cheerful
there are comrades staunch and true
and they meet with friendly greetings
when the long days work is through
while the billy boils

that's the happy time
that's the merry time
in the shade of the old gum tree

you'll find a hearty welcome band
in our sunny wattle land
the land of the old bush home
there are faces that are missing
round the old camp fire so bright
mid the storm and stress of danger
that is where they are tonight
it's the folk of dear australia
on that far off distant track
may the angels sheild and guide them
