My Tips On How To Whip The Shorelines:)
Repeated shoreline casting in Hawaii is known as "Whipping". So on the 1st day of spring i decided to share my style of whipping. The techniques i learned works for my style of whipping using my current equipment on shallow reefs of 2-4ft. Deeper depths don't require this much caution but i tend to practice it to stay efficient.
No fish were caught this morning. Rather this is a "How To" demonstration of whipping the shallows without snagging the bottom. This is my style that works for me using the gear i've chosen for this area. Results may vary according to the types of areas you're fishing in, the species you're targeting & style & timing of your casts.
If anything i've shared here helps your fishing adventures i'd love to read them here. Thanks:)

Thank you for making these videos, for awhile I haven't been fishing because, I thought I didn't have the right gear but, your videos opened me to different fishing methods that are very successful here in Rhode Island.

@@ScubaChris I use a whipping rod to target herring from the beach, and I use a ulua rod to fish for striped bass and bluefish off of the rocky cliffs. The whipping rods with a halalu rig is perfect so I can throw small flies and baits far out to where they school

hey there remembered that I was asking you about your Penn battalion and daiwa costol?. Well I got the 11' daiwa costol mh and oh my it's my new all around rod from lures, soft plastic, to dunking thanks for the advice much mahalo
@ScubaChris
@ScubaChris 7 жыл бұрын
I still use my 11' Coastal. My 10'6" "snapped" about a 1-1/2ft below the tip. It is much "lighter" in thickness & flexability compared to the 11"', like apples & oranges. I like the 11ft.

How do you not get snagged on rocks?
@ScubaChris
@ScubaChris 3 жыл бұрын
Increase your retrieval speed when the lure is about to hit the shallows & hold your rod tip high (sometimes jerking it upwards).

Just wondering...have you tried using Fenwick HMX Salmon Steelrod? Is it better than Tica thlhb rods?
@ScubaChris
@ScubaChris 7 жыл бұрын
I like Fenwicks. Also TICA. For my current whipping needs i only use Okumas T40X Salmon-Steelheads. I sold off all my Ticas & Fenwicks. The guides on all my Tics were corroding after a months usage. The Fenwicks were great but my game is now longer rods with flexability & strength, that's more Okuma.

Kinda scary casting directly over my head with a long leader line... I hooked my shirt more than once doing it that way... how the luer comes out the water then you swing it behind you and a badly timed gust can send that luer towards your body and it’s ouchy time...
@ScubaChris
@ScubaChris 5 жыл бұрын
That has never happen to me before. If that has happen to you before you maybe using to much line. Shorten the distance from the rod's tip to the hook.
@christophermanabat1934
@christophermanabat1934 5 жыл бұрын
Scuba Chris I usually make it the exact length of my 11ft nitro whipping pole so I can hang the hook on the reel. If I side cast, using the bend of the pole to launch it out, the luer usually doesn’t leave the water so no chance of hooking myself. Casting directly over my head, that is dangerous with my setup, to myself or others around me. I find that if the lure never leaves the water, it doesn’t tangle on casting too much. I guess it’s personal preference and technique. My grandpa told me that I should never cast over my head unless it’s for dunking with heavy lead and to swing it and time it with the swing.

Yes you can. You just won't get the distance as using a 10-12ft rod is all.

Wouldn't call a Nasci top of the line, but it does get the job done. If i had the funds i'd be using a Tiralejo & a Stella. This Shimano i believe is the most inexpensive spinning reel model they currently offer. I do like the T-40X Okumas but now they replaced this line with another model.

They're good rods all right. I stopped going out & canceled my vacations along with other cutbacks for the past 2yrs so i could afford my video purchases. Can't repair my truck's AC (+$1,400), for now but in the end it's all worth it. My choice since i value what i'm doing to be more important. Thanks for watching my videos.
