Whipple’s Disease Mnemonic for USMLE

Whipple’s disease is an infection caused by Tropheryma whipplei, a Gram-positive bacillus. Biopsy of the small intestine reveals PAS-positive, foamy macrophages--a key buzz-phrase and image you should know on test day. The disease is primarily a malabsorptive one, and Whipple’s disease patients are characterized by chronic diarrhea and steatorrhea, which can subsequently lead to weight loss. In addition to GI manifestations, patients may have neurologic, cardiac, and joint involvement.

AWESOME VIDEO REALLY, mnemonics like this one really make studying a lot easier. i just would like to add that the main route of transmission of tropheryma whipplei is feco-oral/oral-oral route, so basically through contaminated food and water. That's why it's seen in areas with poor hygiene.
