This video was a tremendous help to me in diagnosing and repairing my machine. It was off balance and the problem turned out to be just a disconneced counter balance spring, which I was able to see immediately once I had the panel removed - thanks to this video. An easy fix!

This video is so INCREDIBLY helpful. I needed to replace the pump. Everywhere else that I raid said to lay the washer on its left side - an incredibly easy and safe thing to do NOTNOTNOT. IN 2 minutes, you can have the cabinet off, sit on a short stool and in another 3 minutes have the pump replaced. 2 more minutes to put the cabinet back on, and you don't even have time for your coffee to get cold!!!

@applianceassistant The timer isn't advancing in any mode, so using an alternative cycle isn't an option. It also acts the same during wash, rinse and spin cycles, so I don't think it's the water valve, but I'll verify that both hot and cold water flow before ordering a replacement timer. After opening the top console using your instructions I'm amazed at the number of electrical connections to the timer (it's a little intimidating). Thanks for the help!

My husband and kids went out of town and I decided to catch up on laundry. After my washer filled, it stopped doing anything. I tried to start it and it made a clicking noise. It has done this before and a professional came out and noticed we had a sock stuck in the pump. @Gb1234M Thank you! If the inner drum is wobbling you most likely need to tighten or replace the inner drive block or “hub” this is a special tapered nut that holds the inner tub to the drive shaft of the transmission. If the outer tub is flopping around you may want to look for a broken or loose tub suspension spring. I have 9 other videos on my website that are available for a 5 dollar donation. But if you can't swing that let me know and I can help you out. Thanks again!

@tommylvsjulie12 I'm sorry it took me so long to get back with you! It is definitely possible that water remaining in the pump could have frozen and would keep the motor from working. But I would imagine if that were the case it would be working by now. You may want to try running the washer with the pump off of the motor, and see if it will turn over then. The motor may have accumulated some rust, perhaps if you manually rotate the motor you may be able to free it. Let me know if I can help.

Sorry for the delay Ive been a little overwhelmed lately, the repair business is good : ) You need to determine if the timer is getting power, then if the power is leaving the timer to the component that needs to be energized, which if the tub is empty it should be energizing the water valves. What is your model number? I will try to find a wire diagram for voltage tests.

@taraleeblackburn If I had your model number I could be more curtain but If you have this style of washer that is in this video, the black belt looking thing probably came off of the clutch/ brake assembly. On some models the outer housing of this assembly has a black rubbery ring that is glued on the outside rim to help dampen noise. It is unimportant mechanically. The most likely cause for fill and then nothing is a broken lid switch. Watch the lid switch and drive system videos.
@applianceassistant

Do you have a model number for the washer? It should be right at the base of the lid when it is open.

HAHA! That music was the bane of my early youtube days! Unfortunately, I don't remember the name, and I did a little tweaking, I think. Please don't use it for youtube videos! I had a troll steal several hundred dollars claiming it was his creation 6 or 7 times. KZbin would funnel revenue to him on dispute until I caught it and wrote a dispute letter, then he would pull the complaint, wait a few months, rinse and repeat until I found him on Facebook and wrote him a note... : ). Thanks for the comment! Sorry, I can't help.

I would need a full model number to be sure but many use two pressure clips that are a few inches in from the sides at the seam between the top and the front of the cabinet. You need to press them toward the back of the washer with a putty knife while you lift the top. (sometimes difficult) You may be able to see them with a flashlight on the seam. If that is your style of washer the mechanics are completely different than the one in this video.
@applianceassistant

@memphisall1 Check the height of your washer's drain-line. The drain pipe that it is connected to needs to be higher than the water level inside the washer tub or the water will siphon out as it comes in. Air also needs to be allowed to enter into the drain pipe along with the water that is being drained from the washer or the same siphoning effect can occur. So don't seal the drain pipe onto the pipe with a bunch of tape, it's better to use zip ties or something like that to secure the drain.

Awesome! Very helpful! Inspiring! Thanks to your clear step by step guide I just opened up our Whirlpool top loader that has been dancing all over the laundry room lately. Pretty sure I found the problem, too! Couple of vertical hitch pin looking rods (head like a nail with a small hole in the other end) and they had dropped completely down and out of place and into their little plastic holder cups (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). Guess a heavy load of jeans last year on "small" setting broke out the little cotter pins that held them in place. Looks like these little 3 inch long pins were supposed to be holding the different layers (looks like 3 layers) of the beast together inside. All the springs look fine. Hope this fixes it!
@da-samurai9702
@da-samurai9702 9 жыл бұрын
Wesley Juncker Actually not a reply but an update. I'm thinking now that those hitch pin looking rods may have been stabilizer pins for shipping that shouldn't be reconnected for regular use. (Don't ask.) But I did find two worn plastic wear pads (snubber pads) and a third one in the back was completely worn down to nothing and was giving metal on metal contact. Replacing the three wear pads helped a little, but not a lot, with the shaking problem during spin cycle. Everything else (springs, etc.) looks OK. I'm stumped. ...

@izzynutz2000 Sorry for the slow response...busy few days. Take a look at my other video "Whirlpool, Maytag, Sears Kenmore Appliance Washer Tub and Suspension Repair Video" it is probably the tub spring in the back of the washer that has ether broken or cut through the frame. hope that helps!

My guess would be something is stuck in the drain pump like a small sock or coin. That model has a lint trap in the pump that can be removed and cleaned. You will need to remove the lower panel and you will find it on the right side. Have a shop vac handy to suck up water from inside the tub (as much as you can get) then slowly turn the front of the drain pump and suck the water from there till it stops. Then remove the coin trap and see what treasures you discover! Good luck! Hope thats it!

First guess would be the lid switch but that model is managed by a control board so its hard to say... Diagnostics mode... Main knob 3 full rotations to the left then Right one click, right one click, right one click, left one click, right one click. each click should be .5 to one second timing. There is a service manual inside the cabined on the front left that will tell you how to activate other tests and read any error codes. I hope that helps. Working on a video for that style...

You may want to look at the tub and suspension video that may give you a better idea of how things should look... But I would guess that the rear tub suspension spring may have broken or rusted through its mounting hole in the frame. Also check that it is still good an level. Sometimes they can move on the floor and find a low or high spot and get out of balance. Good luck!

I've got the same problem (timer seems to be malfunctioning.) Mine is a Kenmore 90 series. All of the functions/cycles work, but the timer will not advance automatically over time while it is pressed in. Since the timer doesn't rotate, it will continue any selected cycle forever unless I pull out the knob, manually advance it to the next function and then press it in again.

Hard to say for sure... It definitely could be the timer. You would need to check for voltage at the water inlet valve when it should be rinsing. Some models run the valve current through a thermostat and that could be the problem as well. You basically need to check for 120VAC from the timer and then make sure its getting to the valve, or if its being lost somewhere along the way. If the valve is being energized but not opening it's the valve. Hope that helps some! Good luck!

The wont drain or spin problem is probably the lid switch... however, that does not explain the leak. Could be the drain pump... Probably best to pull the cabinet and take a look to see if you can track down where the water has been coming from. Good luck!

Great Video; I have a Whirlpool Model # SAWS800JQ2 and my husband turned it over and found a broken, loose black belt or ring that may attach to 2 screws; Do you have any idea if this part is necessary and the part number to purchse from Whirlpool. Also, the motor runs and the agitator won't agitate. Is that a motor coupler problem? I checked online and found part # 285753A as replacement. Is this correct? I hope you can help me with these questions.

My whirlpool washing machine has feet that are bolts with round heads for the feet. One of them is rusted shut. I was able the get the locking nut free with WD-40 and banging it, but the foot itself has a round head (the foot). How can I get it free? Do I need to file 2 sides of it? If not, where can I possibly grip the bolt to free it? What were they thinking? A bolt with a round head that is bound to get rusted? Is this a way to make me buy a new washing machine? The round head is about 1.25 inches diameter I am guessing.

@sbruton1122 Would you mind checking that model number RH4936XWQ1 is a Whirlpool vent hood model number. It's definitely possible that the pressure switch tube is leaking...that can lead to the washer over flowing (big leak) so be careful. When I get that model number I will be better able to advise. Thanks!

Hi, I have a KitchenAid Superba washing machine. I went to wash clothes and the machine fills up with water but it doesn't agitate. The water drains out when I put it on the "spin cycle" but it doesn't spin at all and makes a strange humming noise. What do you think this could be? Is it a belt or is it in the spinning device?
@applianceassistant
@applianceassistant 14 жыл бұрын
Occasionally the same kind of symptoms can occur during the rinse portion of the cycle if the water valve is not functioning properly. If the timer freeze happens to be on the rinse portion of a cycle, be sure that you have full flow of both hot and cold water into the tub during fill before spending the money on a timer. You may also be able to use an alternative cycle on the timer that is not having a problem for a while.
@applianceassistant
@applianceassistant 13 жыл бұрын
@supersnouser I'm a little unclear on the symptoms... if it just stops when it should be spinning Check the lid switch. If it is not spinning at full speed you may need a new clutch. If it is running but not spinning at all could be coupling, transmission, or clutch. I have 8 other direct drive washer videos and troubleshooting on my web site that may help.
