As much as Rex is a magnificent bastard, is it bad that I actually prefer it this way? I could listen to a wise man talking about whisky all day long. Thank you for this Daniel!

You could very easily make these videos twice as long and I would still be just as captivated! I like the relaxed type of video with just you, some whisky, and fun facts. Definitely would not be mad to see a 10 minute video.

Uh oh, look at Daniel with the throwback toast. It’s cool to see you doing this again, man. A lot brighter this time around. Lol. Ya’ll’s channel has grown so much! Cheers!

Stoked to watch this little series!!! Wish they could ship to Utah so I could sip along all month! I’ll just have to settle for whatever I’m in the mood for and have on hand!

Glenfarclas in general has to be the perfect Christmas malt. Among the entry level ones, the 15 year old (46%) is the one to go for I would say.

Both Daniel and Rex could perfectly run their own show, and I'd watch both. But their personalities combined make something magnificent

I agree completely. This channel has only grown to this level because together we're far more interesting.

Glenfarclas are one of the last to direct fire their stills. It gives their whisky a distinctive flavour. I love Chad's first edit. Right after you say you're gonna keep these reviews short. Oh yeah, someone is keeping them short.

Love the regular Whiskey Vault episodes but I think there's room for these kinds of reviews as well. Maybe once a week? "Daniel's Corner?" "Nerd Lounge!"

A coworker mentioned he pours one single of every new whiskey he gets into a master blend bottle. Just to try something different once in a while. You guys have said that in general if you are blending premium whiskies, you're likely to end up with a nice Whiskey. So I've gone ahead and mixed a single of the following into one bottle: Bowmore10, Yamazaki 12, Dalmore 15, Nikka Coffey Grain, Woodford Reserve, Nikka Whiskey from the Barrel & Bulleit Bourbon. How long do you suggest I let it sit before trying it? #Blendagaeddon

Oh Mighty Level 3 Sommelier Daniel-san. I have need of your fatherly advise, and vast knowledge of all things whisky. Ive recently I had a little baby girl earlier this year, and Ive decided that I'm going to steal a tradition that one of my friends parents had for their kids when they were born. Which is purchasing a bottle of whiskey and tucking it away for the next 19 years in a dark temperature controlled place in order to gift it to my daughter on her 19th Birthday. As I'm from Canada and that's the legal drinking age up here. However I'm not sure as to what I should be putting away for her. Wiser's Dissertation might be a good safe choice, and may see some additional value in future years. But a Distillery out in British Columbia had caught my eye by the name of Urban Distilleries which has a single malt whisky that is bottled with part of a french oak barrel in the bottle to allow for continued aging. What I am unsure of is whether or not their claims are accurate in regards to aging Whisky in a bottle by adding part of the cask the bottling process. There claim is that: The cask gives the whisky a distinctive taste now, but also allows the whisky to continue aging; each additional week after the bottled date adds approximately six months to the aging process. www.urbandistilleries.ca/store/urban-single-malt-whisky Im wondering just how true that is? As 19 years aging at 1 wk equaling 6 months worth of aging. Would make for a ridiculously old whisky if that is the case. Basic Math : 52 wks in a year @ 6 months per wk * 19 years = would be 5928 years aged at 19 years. Not to mention the aging prior to bottling. Also would you know of any other company's that bottle part of the cask in the whisky during the bottling process to allow for continued age? Finally, last request for a Whisky Vault episode : Could you make one in regards about the best whiskeys for mixing drinks. Like if you had to choose just one whiskey only to mix with different juices\sodas. Which would you use for things like Apple Juice, as compared to mixing with Ginger Ale, or Coke\Pepsi. Or why Dr Pepper mixes so well with fireball whisky. Thanks in Advance, Joe

the wood in the bottle would be interesting, but who knows! My vote is buy both :-) Congratulations on the kiddo! It's a grand journey.

I really enjoy the talk about highlands vs speyside. You should give us more history on the different regions, and how they differ. Rex can chill (ill send you a whisk(e)y rex) and let us nerd out a bit.

@wsievers226 жыл бұрын
So I think that Daniel should try the whiskeys blind. Set up a weeks worth of whiskey and Rex picks them for Daniel to try that "day". I want to see if Daniel says the same things about the whiskeys he has already reviewed, rather than possibly being bias to a specific brand and having the thoughts that he has about a particular whiskey. Thoughts? Like when he knows he's having a Glenfarclas, he automatically assumes it's a certain flavor profile (mouth feel).
@justiceschlemmer5176 жыл бұрын
I must lay claim to my Glenfarclas! I am a descendant of the Grant family (supposedly) The family tradition is to pass down the Grant name to the firstborn son as their middle name as our family is mostly German now. I do not have the genealogical research to back this up, but if it is true it would be an awesome connection to the whisky world.
@mierdadeburo3036 жыл бұрын
If you guys reviewed tequila vodka cognac gin and some beers you guys would own the world of alcohol 😭 it’d be like the top gear of alcohol. You’d put all wineries out of business

Alright lad, you told me I had to get the ardbeg dark cove, I went and got it, man it's truly magical. However, if you were to recommend just 1 whisky under 500 dollars which should I buy?
@WhiskeyVault6 жыл бұрын
That's unbelievably tough because of the options. Must think on it further.
@WinnieThePooh3336 жыл бұрын
Whiskey Vault I get that, I have bought one Port Ellen 37 yo but I slightly regret my decision for I felt I should have bought like 100 bottles of longmorn haha, btw is there any place where I can still get longmorn for those are sooooo rare nowadays it's unbelievable
@WhiskeyVault6 жыл бұрын
The old Longmorn's are just lucky to find them. Right now, even online stores will show pictures of the old one but ship the new one. Good luck!

Serious question. Today i tried the Macallan Amber and, on the nose, the preminent thing i got was walnuts. Which apparently noone gets.. am i confusing it with oak? Cinnamon? Is my nose fucked?
@WhiskeyVault6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I often get walnuts when the barrel, peat, and dark fruit notes mix in particular ways. slight waxy aftertaste.

@charlieghague6 жыл бұрын
Would a distillery ever choose to label themselves a Speyside or Highland based off the flavor profile they're going for? Say a distillery in Speyside had a more earthy and smokey flavor profile vs the sweet butterscotch the region is known for. Would they choose to label themselves Highland bc they feel their whiskey more represents flavors from that region?
@WhiskeyVault6 жыл бұрын
Not in my experience. Mostly marketing.
