Wow, I feel ya, sister. I was a southern girl in Seattle for four years. I'd laugh when I'd go into stores and realize I was the ONLY woman wearing makeup, which was pretty much always. The lady in charge of the PTA had full sleeves of tats on both arms, something that would have given full on aneurysms to the ladies I grew up with, bless her heart! Finally got out of there, couldn't do anymore rain/cold (I moved out the last day of June, with my heater still running at night. Yeah, no). I'm back down south, people are friendly, now I'm the one without makeup half the time (divorced and not looking, lol), but it's sunny and warm. Again. I know it's beautiful country, but life is short, live where you love if you can possibly get away with it, and if you already are, then I'll send you some sunshine anyway, can't hurt! 😁

“Head Case” is brilliant. It defies normal song writing structure by not having a chorus, it deals with subjects that free-thinkers can relate to, and it opens musically with an acoustic guitar and a cello (a cello in a country song!). Interesting match-up. This is one of Whiskey Myers' two best songs by a mile, and I'm not even sure I'd put Must Be The Whiskey in my Cody Jinks top 5. I know users were polled for these choices, but I think Cast No Stones or David would be a stronger contest. Much like with RRB & CoJo...it's one band's magnum opus vs another's simply "good" song. It's also fascinating, though not really surprising given this channel also has a strong heavy metal element, that the two winning groups are a LOT closer to the southern rock side of red dirt than the country side (assuming WM wins).

To answer y’all’s question about the song simple man. ballad of a southern man is texas red dirt country. the song simple man as y’all know is by lynyrd skynyrd which is a band from my hometown jacksonville, florida. so back to your question, if someone from texas didn’t know the words to simple man would they be an imposter? no because the song simple man isn’t necessarily a texas thing, it’s a southern thing. And of course not everyone who lives in the south is gonna know the lyrics to simple man because not everyone here is what i guess you could call “traditionally southern”, the south is made up of many different cultural groups. now if they were claiming to be southern and couldn’t sing simple man, then yes, they’re an imposter to me lol. Oh this song is great because it really is about the Hearth and Home. You know you love it when grandma is in the kitchen cooking your favorite meal, and you hear the voices of all your loved ones as you stubbornly try to do something else. Sitting on the front-porch. You know that feeling of Home. It is hard to come by these days with these modern families, which is "you won't understand". I remember how I used to rebel against it, and do my own thing in the middle of it, but I was there in the middle of it regardless. Grandma's kisses and all. Oh god how I miss it, now that it is gone. I think when I die I will probably end up in that place, sitting on the grand table with all my ancestors and have a grand old feast.

I was raised on 4 acre ranch in south Texas. My first rifle was also a 243 at the age 4. Raised on steak & refried beans. Had 3 cows, a goat and a lot of chickens lol
