Got my girl pregnant at 17, I was 18, we didn’t have anything, no job, no money, no plan, but we loved the hell out of each other. We were both poor kids, never had much and didn’t have one of those family names you need to succeed in a small town. But we had each other and that was good enough. 10 years later were married, we have 3 kids now, and a dog.. we both have great careers... a house on some land and we just bought her granddads farm back... From very humbled beginnings, Weber stuck it out, thru thick and thin, and today my love for her is more than it’s ever been. This song hits me hard, because it’s so true. Just felt like sharing my life story. True love does exist. It’s not always pretty, but it’s always worth it.

The love of my life and I had a baby at 17 Got married 30 years ago this month. We lived in a tiny apartment And had nothing. But oh our dreams. Between his joining the army and me having to go on bedrest..The baby came ..and soon divorce too.. I will always love him..

I was married and pregnant at 19. Head over heels for the only man I ever knew. Ten years, four kids later...we dont have much. But the love yall....there is so much love. I feel so blessed to be married to a man that is everything this song describes and more. The world and all its riches dont mean nothing. I just need God and my family. This song stops me in my tracks every time and makes me realize how incredibly blessed I am. I only thought I loved him when we were younger. I love him more today then I ever knew I could...

My wife and I started out sleeping on a blanket under the stars until the weather got cold then we slept in her explorer on a air mattress . We got married and were blessed with our daughter . Moved into a income based apartment. I worked full time while she went to school for her RN degree. She graduated we moved to another apartment . Then to a nicer apartment . Then we bought our first home and we’re doing pretty good . I went to school and along the way we were blessed with our son . I graduated with my RN degree. We started with nothing but love and now we have built an amazing life . It’s hard but very doable . Love and hard work and God is all you need . Doesn’t matter where you start .

Maxed out my college card to to rent a hotel room for our honeymoon. After the wedding her parents didn't come to, first place we stayed was a twin bed in my friend's garage. 15 years, 5 kids on earth, 2 in heaven and a lot of "don't know how we're gona make it this month but God always shows up." Now we have more than enough to give away. By God's grace, we get to be trees that provide shade for others. Work like everything depends on you, pray like everything depends on God...she's still hot as hell by the way 😉

This song reminds me of my parents so much. It gets me every time at the “Baby there ain’t no shame in bein poor.” My parents worked hard to make things better than they were for them growing up. I make decent money but I’m a working man. I weld and hang iron. I like what I do and it provides a good living for my family. We aren’t rich but we do ok. Our society looks down on working people. I’m proud to be one of them.

We need you man. The trades are so solid. I'd be happy if I had children and they went into the trades. Also, you aren't defined, limited or forced to behave a certain way based on what others expect of you.... blue collar white collar we both gotta work for our money. You set your own value. Know your worth and really believe it brother because nobody is going to give you more than what you ask for when push comes to shove.... no matter how much you've earned it.

One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Literally brings tears to my eyes. My parents lived in a pink and white dilapidated trailer that almost burned down one day because of a faulty kerosene heater. Forty years later I am very successful because of everything they did for me and my brothers. RIP Dad, I think of that pink and white trailer often and all the sacrifices you made for us.

Ron Anglin I wasn't raised poor but when the wife & I first started out at 18 we were dirt poor. We had nothing for over a decade because we had nothing but highschool diplomas and the shitty jobs that accompany those with no skills/trade. We both busted our asses and made something of ourselves so our kids would not grow up poor. Do you have a problem with my idea of what poor is (or was) ? Like Jims comment or not, there's no disputing that you and I are why there's no shame in being poor as long as you're willing to bust your ass and better yourself. On a sidenote, thank you for your service.
@brianmorris917

Ron, unless you personally know "Big Jim", you really should word your comment differently. You sound like a jerk with your "whaat your group calls", "I feel comfortable saying these men have and you sir have not". You know Mr. Ron, I'm sure there are people out there that believe your description of how you grew up poor, well, it doesn't sound all that poor to them. Have a good day sir, and thank you for your service.

No outward signs of suicide or even depression. Had gotten his law degree a few years prior and doing great. His wife played this song at his funeral since it was their song. Make sure to love those closest to you and take care of one another. Look out for each other.

One of the best contemporary bands out there. I’m an early Gen X’er and grew up with the values of hard work, responsibility, god and country and have tried my best to live up to them. In my mid 50’s now and know I am entering the stretch run of my life. Lived in a trailer, a big house and a condo. Was a janitor, a mason, factory worker, cop, psychologist, business owner and union official. Lost my sister, mother, grandparents and some friends. Raised my sisters kid when she passed early on. Worked from age 11...it’s all I know. Just has my first child at age 52 and hoping I’ll be around long enough to teach him something. This song as well as Outfit by The Drive By Truckers epitomizes the values that I was raised with. My life did not turn out in anyway I imagined it would but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.

Can’t get enough of this one. Finally got an opportunity to see my favorite new band in August of this year at the WV State Fair. They delivered on a grand scale. This song says things that all of us have lived and struggled with. Life can get just to damn busy sometimes. Fortunately we have artists who can pen these moments of life that are precious on paper and give us a masterpiece such as this. Much love to Whiskey Meyers . Love your music and band. Your acoustic versions are masterpieces. I’m glad music has returned to its former glory of the classics. You guys are laying down tracks that will stand the test of time for sure. Your new favorite fan forever. Keep em coming

I stumbled onto this group a few months ago. Sampled them on youtube and ending up buying the firewater and mud records. I absolutely love this groups authenticity, musicianship, and writing ability. I can't wait to see this group of guys make it big one day because they do it right. Genuine music from the heart. The popular country musicians that dominate the radio hear songs like this one and are jealous they can't write like this.
