Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:

** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

I love how Rex just completely ignores Daniel. Daniel mentioned that Sexton was 40% like 4 times...then Rex asked "hey what is this like 43%". Damn you Mooch pay attention!

I like the bottle design somewhat. I've been looking for a unique bottle that's somewhat macabre themed, and this one strangely fills that role a little. Also, I agree the shape of the bottle hinders the pour - but as a level 3 sommelier I would expect Daniel to have mastered the art of pouring. Master the Sexton, Daniel.

Glad you guys liked the Sexton! I have to side more with Rex as far as my experience was with the whiskey (plus I mooched it too!) but I'll have to come back to it so I can try to find the smores. As far as the roommate dispute goes, Kyle should know that I will do what is necessary for the tribe!

I found your channel a couple weeks before thanksgiving as I wanted to buy a bottle of scotch to drink with my brother in law. Not having any knowledge I watched your best beginner whiskeys video and the best value for money video. I ended up buying monkey shoulder. Thanksgiving was wonderful as was the scotch and since then I have watched (and I just counted) 107 episodes of the whiskey vault. You guys rule.

Really been loving my journey with you guys into Irish Whiskey. I was someone that turned to an Islay when pouring whisky, with Ardbeg Uigeadail being one of my go to, but in that journey I discovered Bourbon & an other whole chapter opened up, leading my to Ryes. Now Rare Breed & Ressell’s red are my daily pours, but watching your videos has lead me to Teeling & a rapidly growing appreciation for Irish Whiskey, that goes beyond the James pours of my youth. Now I’ve got a growing Teeling collection, waiting for my Redbreast 12 CS to arrive & the hunt continues. Keep up the great work you doing as ambassadors of whisk(e)y!

It's amazing in mixed drinks like Irish Coffee :) So the back story.... Alex Thomas worked at Bushmills for 13 years and she went off on her own to make this creation. Bushmills basically freaked out at her striking out on her own and made their own competing product, Black Bush. Except she does it better, being one of their more experienced employees and blenders. The entire reason they didn't like it as much is it needs a drop of water. Then it tastes like a smoother, better Black Bush and the alcohol comes forward. For $10 less.
@TheGrafton12
@TheGrafton12 2 жыл бұрын
I heard Alex went ahead and developed and made the Sexton on Bushmills equipment, which they knew about, but am sure they were 'shook' when Sexton made an impact on the Market!
@plektosgaming
@plektosgaming 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheGrafton12 Alex used her knowledge and skills and some testing of novel ideas she already had already developed from her multi-year employment at Bushmills (as would any person with the job of creating new flavors and blends ), but it's more industry gaslighting because she's not a man and trying to claim credit overall ( typical of corporations) when they claim it was their equipment. Technically it is true, but it was just their raw product. She developed it and blended on her own and deserves the credit for it, IMO. Same as people who take MGP products and then blend and re-brand it. We aren't giving Johnny Walker Black Label grief for being made in Indiana on "MGP" equipment, but they are when it comes to her case.
@TheGrafton12
@TheGrafton12 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that interesting tidbit! Sounds like an 'insider's scoop'. I read that Distillers in Ireland only distill using the equipment in one of four Distilleries, and it's not uncommon to make a product that has no 'official Distillery' behind it? I also read that sometime last Nov or December Bushmills made Alex their 'Master Distiller'? (Maybe because they REALLY wanted to promote her up the chain to make her happy and NOT leave, but keep her Talent for themselves? If so, smart choice!)
@plektosgaming
@plektosgaming 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheGrafton12 It's not a "scoop", just that, yes, all of the "Irish Whiskey" comes from stock supplied from the same distilleries that is then blended and aged. We do this in the U.S. as well, but don't make a stink about it - nor do they in Ireland, generally. Green Spot, for instance, doesn't distil their own components but that makes no difference. Midleton is effectively the Irish version of MGP. Almost every smaller label gets stock from them. But in her case, some people of course decided to try to make it seem as if her brand was somehow less than everyone else's effort. Yes, whiskey making is traditionally seen as a male-only business in quite a few areas - modern views on gender roles are slow to adapt the farther you get from major cities.

Got a bottle of The Sexton today. It was sealed, by the way, so no unprotected Sexton. It's a very drinkable spirit and the price was right. I paid $23.99 and they must have fixed the dribble on the first pour.

I'm so glad you guys started talking about backyard rules. I feel like there hasn't been enough ball busting on the show since you started the biscuits channel. And since I know that the unofficial motto of the school is "If you bring it up, you're in charge of fixing it." I will be promoting my self to Ball-Busting Upper Management. That's actually a little risque... Maybe we should use the acronym BUM. You know what, no. That's not going to work. Mandatory Ball-Busting... This is a lot harder than it sounds. You know what, instead of having a double entendre laden message, I think i'm just going to start posting more funny crap. Thanks for all y'all do. And watch for my first prank. I finally opened a bottle of sexton given to me many months ago. Pros - Easy drinker with a slight ‘Scotch’ like twist. The bottle really is an interesting piece on the shelf. Cons - after the initial taste the flavour disappears very quickly to a point where the liquid left in your mouth tastes very watered down. Imagine the last mouthful of a whiskey on the rocks. The bottle is very poor at pouring whiskey and there is some wastage as it sadly dribbles on the counter I don’t think I’d buy again

Interesting you bring up Back Yard Rules! I recently was forced to drink a glass of Fireball “whiskey” after getting in an argument with a friend after I took a big steamy s@&t of him for drinking the stuff himself. I thought we were close enough for that kind of joke, but I guess I was wrong. He got pissed off really quick. After realizing my mistake I apologized and did the only thing I could think of to make up for it, pouring us both a glass of his drink of choice (fireball) and taking one for the team. This does bring up an interesting question for me though. Does this move qualify me as a mooch? At the end of the day I still got some free alcohol even if I didn’t want it.

I need a Mooch Ranking... My wife works so hard and so many hours, her boss bought me a bottle of Laphroaig 10. I made a comment awhile back, jokingly, that I was being left with the children so many hours because of her boss, she told him, and when he bought bottles of liquor for the office ladies, as is his tradition, and he spent more on me than he did her (she got Jager). How many Mooch Points is this? This is my first taste of Laphroaig of any kind, and it is great, but overwhelming. I'm too used to bourbon, need to branch out and try new things. Asked my wife for Monkey Shoulder for Christmas.

So, I was wondering why people often refer to Compass Box, when talking about independent bottlers, since Compass Box is a blending company? It's even listed on several pages, under the category of independent bottlers - any thoughts? Could it be, that they are so innovative, that people often mistake them for an independent bottling company, more so than a blending house? Let me know what you think.

I think that most people don't know the difference and it's easier to label something you know vs don't totally understand.

Yeah, tell him to stop burning his money. Buy him a Benromach 10 and send me the difference. I can make better use of it.

So what sort of responsibilities come with being Mayor of Whisk(e)y Town? LOL! I would imagine that there'd be a ban on "mouthfeel" and strict definitions of what constitutes a biscuit. Just a guess. :)

They wouldn't. Period... the flavor and smell of sexton is so much more than the likes of Jameson that they can't be compared. It's like comparing bullet to Jim bean.
