@@groton27 personally I'm a fan of anything smokey scotch so. I feel like it would spin an Ardbeg or Laphroaig really well. But something like Makers 46 style could prolly stand really well with the sweetness. Or maybe even a Texas whisky to balance those wood notes and pull alot from the amaretto barrel.

Crazy.. a few months ago there was a big sale on the green Buskers where I live in Canada and they had it for about $20 (Canadian) It was ok but I didn't care for it straight so I ended up using it as a mixer with ginger ale... that actually worked quite well, I still prefer plain old wild turkey as a mixer with ginger ale though... now Rare Breed I like on its own, a bottle cap full of water in a couple oz, swirled and set aside for about 20 minutes seems to be the sweet spot for me, less burn, more complex tastes and smells come out and its got a thick mouth feel... one place has Rare Breed on sale for $39 (Canadian so what $5 US?) and normally its about $60... Have to say Buskers was OK and I didn't try all of them but the green one didn't impress me overly much

The (Irish) TRY Channel liked one of the Buskers last week. Interestingly (tellingly?) it was the single grain. But they're making progress! They no longer shoot all their whiskey (for the most part)! They also did Glendalough, Roe & Co., and Teeling. All the budget lines, as far as I can tell. XD

Dumb question, what is "grain whisky" in the context of Irish and Scottish distillation? Like I know about north American grain choices, but I wonder what grains are common in Ireland and Scotland besides malted barley.

No such thing as a dumb question, only dumb people. And dumb people don't ask questions. Grain whisk(e)y refers to the mashbill being a mixture of grains, as opposed to just barley, malted or unmalted.

Lol, thanks for the reassurance! Is there a standard gambit of grains typically used in the mix? Like I know that American whisky uses commonly corn and rye (with malt and wheat in smaller proportions in the mash bill). Do Scottish and Irish use the same or are there other grains that are used that I may be unaware of. To be transparent, I am somewhat hopeful that the answer is that they use different things because that would open a whole new world of considerations in grain mash, but I feel like it is probably not something off the wall because I probably would have heard of it by now.
