I just picked up a bottle of the Jefferson's Classic and I have to say, I agree with Rex's notes. It's not an incredible whisky to me. Even at it's price range I could pick out other bourbons like Four Roses or Woodford that at the very least leave a lasting impression. It's still very drinkable but it's really the first whisky that I recommend drinking on the rocks rather than straight to wake up more of the flavors and ease up on the bitter finish.

I have never tried a Rye. Daniel, what are your recommendations for a Rye Whiskey and the ones which are globally available.

I'll try to list some that should be more available and not too expensive (so you can try and see if you like the profile). Everyone seems to like Rittenhouse Rye (cheap, good, and not too high abv) If you like Jack Daniel's, they make a rye that is essentially Jack with a rye background. More expensive but vastly superior would be Pikesville Rye by Heaven Hill (Now this is rye)

I've had small changes in whisky too. I gravitated to heavy smoke for a long time. Recently I've been falling back in love with Sherry cask finish. I think it varies.

I went to Balcones Distillery this weekend. You guys are crazy about brimstone being a kick you in the face whiskey. I guess though since I had the worst thing ever, crown royal Texas mesquite, before trying brimstone, that brimstone is tame compared to that. I love the brimstone.
