The Rhum Agricoles are made on Martinique which is a French colony historically. They tend to have a 'grassy' note on the palate which is kind of like when you used to chew young grass stalks as a kid. I like the Depaz VSOP and XO bottlings which are less grassy and, I think, suit a whisky drinkers palate because of their subtle complexity. Cheers Daniel, I wish we could get the great American single malt whiskies in the UK, but for now Ardbeg will have to do.

Rum nerd back in the comments. I LOVE the idea of rhum agricole barrels being used in whiskey. Like you said, agricole is not super easy to come by in the US, and the flavor of cane juice rum is so far outside of what most people are familiar with when it comes to rum. I want to see more whiskey brands messing with this, if for no other reason than that I might actually get to try one haha!
