I picked up a bottle of Ledaig 13 Amontillado cask while I was in Reno (taxes up here in Oregon are a bitch) and it’s un freaking believable. I’m but a poor lad, and can’t afford to donate a bottle, but if you can get ahold of it for the vault, you should. It’s right up Daniel’s alley.

Hello Whiskey Vault, my name is Brandon and I'm newly 21 years old, looking for a good whiskey (any kind) to get me started on my whiskey journey. I hate mixed drinks, but I can somewhat appreciate a very minute amount of Elijah Craig. Is there any whiskey that I could drink neat, and be able to get used to the alcohol while appreciating flavor?

Nice. I've been watching your videos lately. So glad you are reviewing Steel Bonnets. It is named from the area of the Border Reivers. Clan Armstrong was very much tied to this area. Glad to see a whisky that comes from that far south and one tied to my clan. I kinda have to grab a bottle. We were called Border Reivers. The history is dark. But very interesting. They call it Scottish/English because the area near the border was disputed land. Once called the debatable lands. It was this buffer zone where people were closer to their names and brothers than any monarch are national pride. When the crowns united they attempted to pacify the border through ethnic cleansing. Murdered many of my clan. There is a town in Scotland that still has a law on the books to hang any Armstrong on site. Now the border is relatively calm. A lot of history behind that name.

@jesusfreakinct6 жыл бұрын
I went for the Bunnahabhain Select Casks because I was on a budget (I was still really impressed for just under $300); the Laphroaig is amazing, but that was the first release, so I cannot comment on the current, second release. I've tried Talisker 30 as well, and it's one of the cheaper 30s you can find, but I just spied a Deanston 30 for under $300 as well - good luck!
@spencer-mav6 жыл бұрын
@@jesusfreakinct Talisker might be up my alley. WIsh I had jumped into scotch sooner so i had a better idea of my palate - i'm still a little all over the board. Just bought a bottle of Talisker Storm. Other favorites are Monkey Shoulder and Ardbeg Corryvreckan (being polar opposites [price and taste], this has really thrown me for a loop)...

Hi Guys me and my friend have been watching for a just over a month now, love the channel. Since watching we have tried a much broader variety of whiskey. Going from the more common JD, Bullet, Jameson to trying Angels Envy, Talisker 10, Laphroaig Lore, Bunnahabhain 12, Hibiki Harmony, Balcones Brimstone. And tonight we are trying Jameson Caskmates Stout edition. So far Bunnahabhain 12 has been my favourite, but Laphroaig Lore was the one with the biggest impact but still enjoyed it. My question to Daniel is what is the rarest whiskey you have ever tried? And secondly could you have a word with whoever distributes Angels Envy to the UK as you cannot get it anymore apart from one shop in London who had 20 bottles at £80. Love the show and Rex keep on mooching

I have a special place in my heart for Bunnahabhain (or is it my liver?). The 12 Year Old was the first Peated whisky from Islay I ever liked and it was the last distillery I visited during my 3 day visit to Islay.

Bunnahabhain is unpeated Islay.
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies6 жыл бұрын
MoahGentle no, it’s not. I’ve been to Bunnahabhain Distillery and drank plenty of their whiskies. The 12 year old is lightly Peated. Their Moine Olorroso casks are heavily Peated.
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies6 жыл бұрын
MoahGentle here are the notes from Master of Malt “Bunnahabhain bottling comes in a redesigned bottle. This 12 year old is lightly peated for an Islay single malt and consequently is a light, fresh dram. Now at the higher strength of 46.3% - for more complexity and flavour.”
@MoahGentle6 жыл бұрын
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I bought the Twelve yo, no need to visit the distillery, and it has no peat in it.
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies6 жыл бұрын
MoahGentle perhaps you’ve got an unpeated version I’ve never heard of, but I’ve reviewed the whisky and every online source (including the one previously cited above) I have read says it is lightly Peated. Peat isn’t always perceivable as smoke, some Highland whiskies are lightly Peated and it comes across as earthly notes such as tobacco or leather. Google “Bunnahabhain 12” and show me a source that states it is unpeated.
