Auchentoshan means 'corner of the field', as per one source. My first impression, today, was that the aroma is that of light strawberry jam and vanilla. It is a delicate tasting, slightly creamy, and watery dram. Overall, the scotch is very appealing and elegant. As the amount of air increases in the bottle, I will be interested to see any changes in the aroma and the taste. Today with tax added, a bottle costs about 53 USD in the state of Virginia.

ive always wanted to try this whisky. i was in tesco today and noticed it was on a clearance sale at £17.60 for 70cl bottle. there was 2 left on the shelf and picked both up. looking forward to trying them tonight

nice taste of toffee and citrus. not as sweet as i thought it would be as i read the comments before i tried it. i have had better malts in the price range but still enjoyed this whisky.

Spot on review... exactly how I taste it! However when it’s £21 in Tesco every so often I can’t leave it there for that and it’s ideal drinking with food. I like it, it doesn’t compare to my all time fav old pulteney 17 in any way, or my glendronach 18, but for an everyday light dram at the price point it’s good.

I got vanilla , honey and strong citrus notes on the nose . Spicy and abit bitter on the palate and finish was long and spicy not much sweetness to taste for me . Was ok , would i buy a bottle ? Probably not .

one of the most unusual of the Scotch whiskies, lots of veg oil, which may put people off, for 20 quid this is 'different' and well-made, maybe slightly masked by the oaking. By the way The Whisky Critic, all Auchentoschen is unpeated, so please do not complain that it is not 'smoky'!

Couldn’t resist £20 Amazon purchase. Very sweet, vanilla smelt v overpowering and taste was disappointing tbh. But for £20...... Great channel btw - first time here- will check out other vids

I've gone at this one a couple of times and find it doesn't work. The oak imparts a taste that I don't think jibes well with the general flavor. I can understand the review's criticism of the sweetness, lack of typical scotch character. But I think it's worse than that. I'd be OK with that limitation, but there's an overtone in the flavor that I find vaguely skunky and which doesn't harmonize. I've had the same sensation with the Angel's Envy port cask, which I find clashes with the underlying flavor. In both cases, fine spirits not improved by the treatment. If it aint broke...

I liked your review and don't disagree with your opinion about the sweetness, but I think that any review of this expression needs to consider the price point. This is available at my liquor store for around $24 (don't know what that translates to in pounds). At that price it's competing with cheep blends like Famous Grouse and Teachers. Cheers

I think you are being too kind to this one. It’s a very bad whisky. A very disappointing dram at any price point. Gives ‘price point’ & ‘NAS’ a bad name. Shame on the brand for trying to pawn this off. Who would ever buy a second bottle? Fool me once. Auchentoshan is so insulting with this expression, why would anyone even want to support their 12 or three wood? Especially when there are so many other superior products and brands out there.

I think when doing these reviews I have to balance my own opinions, however strong, against the fact that taste is subjective and there will be people out there who like this expression. The Whisky Critic no need to balance. I’m gonna walk back my comment. I just went back and gave it another try. It’s not that bad. You are dead on about this tasting like a bourbon. I’m approaching it like a bourbon now.
