Good to see you clearing out some of the old stuff and making space for new (and likely better) bottles.

Have you had chance to try any independently bottled Auchentoshan? Thanks Al 🥃👍

@@WhiskyGeek Not tried any of the Indies yet. I'd imagine I'd definitely prefer them. Not been overly impressed by any Auchentoshan I've had. You have an Indie you'd recommend?
@WhiskyGeek3 жыл бұрын
@@WhiskeyStraightAl Think both the ones I had were Douglas Laing bottlings. Both a step up from the OB's but quite quiet ex-bourbon casks so it was all in the subtleties. Wonder if Signatory have any to offer...

Excellent walk through of these affordable and available whiskies! I still enjoy Three Wood, as thankfully I do not get the off notes you pick up. Agree with the integridy comments and for me there are many other bottles I can reach for that bring that. Cheers!
@WhiskyGeek3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I used to enjoy the Three Wood plenty - another victim of blind taste tests! What really threw me was how I was doing it alongside someone else who had the exact same issue, and neither of us could return to it without that flavour coming up 🤔 Cheers Jon 🥃👍

I actually bought the American Oak, 12 & Threewood miniatures recently and the American Oak was my favourite.

Miniatures are a smart way to get to try them and figure out if you want a full bottle or not, good idea 🥃👍

@@WhiskyGeek admittedly it’s not the most cost-effective way of doing it but I personally find sherried whiskies hit or miss, so I don’t often buy big bottles right off the bat.

another two bottles gone and one or two more heels still in the cabinets ready to make room for new stocks. thanks for another great review, i am always amazed at your tasting notes. l am a bit like Dan when it comes to whisky tasting still a bit of a whisky novice

Think I've got about 6-8 bottles sat there ready to be finished off & make space for something new! Picking & uncorking them could be a fun live 😁 Cheers Force Ten, so long as you can pick what you like & don't like then you're doing well 🥃👍

Hi Ben, cant argue with you here. Had both of these (and the 12 which was also a let down) . I actually prefer the American oak, for around £20 its priced about right for what one is getting but the three oak is overpriced and last time I had these was about three or four years ago, says it all really. Good tasting notes and review, slàinte Ben

Excellent notes and even better conclusions Ben. Much of ‘Toshan ‘s (nas) core range doesn’t cut it for me, although the 12 is a decent palate warmer/entry level one from what I remember of it. Cheers
@WhiskyGeek3 жыл бұрын
Think I had a mini of the 12 year old and thought it was largely more of the same; a reasonable progression from the American Oak. Those 2 indie bottlings were definitely my favourites so far and they weren't particularly interesting casks themselves. Whilst I'd be interested to explore further I couldn't justify putting much cash in to it at the moment - too many better alternatives! 😉 Cheers Menno 🥃👍

I still like the threewood. Can't help myself, the layered sweetness on the very light spirit just works. I always keep a bottle around, even though most of what I otherwise drink would probably be considered more advanced. I have the same weakness for Glenmorangies Quinta Ruban. Maybe it is because they were among the fist whiskies to really win me over to this hobby, I have a nostalgic perspective on them :)
@WhiskyGeek3 жыл бұрын
Ahh the emotional connection - I could say the same for Crown Royal! Just don't let anyone pour them blind for you and ruin it! I've only had the Quinta Ruban a couple of times and didn't have any objections 🥃👍

@@WhiskyGeek I have just bought Clan Denny, Douglas McGibbon - blend of single malts from Islay. Brilliant, especially at such a price.

Great review Ben, you have superb tasting notes and the conclusion is spot on, i would now never buy those because of the chill filtration, colouring and low abv. I think the industry is slowly changing to more intergrity and you see big brands now also offer intergrity bottles for good prices
@WhiskyGeek3 жыл бұрын
The sooner the better! I've just been prepping notes for a Glendronach review and was surprised to see they've recently taken the 'non chill filtered' labeling off the packaging - a little concerning 🤔 If we keep trying to make a noise about it hopefully more brands will step in the right direction. Thanks Marcel 🥃👍
