I picked up my first bottle of anCnoc 18 last weekend and it is instantly one of my favorites, along with the much more expensive (but still worth it for me) Balblair 18. Same FOMO, I plan to get another ($150) while I still can. There's only a few hanging around at very few locations near me. The Balblair is more available, so I'll bide my time on buying a backup of that. Great in-depth reviews! Cheers!!!

Also what I’m doing is similar to what you did. With buying 18 year old Scotches now I’m locking in the price on a bottle because Scotch pricing is going crazy. They have tendency to just keep going up n up. Seems like tariffs are in place.

I hope the crazy prices don't have a long term negative impact on the industry, but I am getting worried we might see more distilleries start to struggle because of the perception of greed.

Man, I identify totally with you on all of your points. FOMO. Fact!!! Talisker 18 is the one that I’m wondering if I should get now before I can never afford it. The Glendronach 21 I had multiple chances to grab when it was @135. Now forget it, besides it’s not the older stock so not worth it imo. Glenfarclas 25 was $140 at Total Wine a few yrs ago. Missed out on that as well. I could go on. Springbank 12 as one last example, I last purchased 2 at $95. Last time I saw it was in a small shop in SC. $200. I should have bought one. I passed. So yeah, Talisker… 🤔

I have a recent review up if you haven't seen it yet for my thoughts on Talisker 18!

Now I’m happy my local Total Wine put these on sale and I got it for about $100 before tax. Looks like I’ll be one and done with this.

I’m in the position as an enthusiast that I love what’s going on with Scotch at the moment - 46% ABV and up, natural colour and non-chill filtered - but I want there to be some kind of crash resulting in a drop in prices. But a lot of these new distilleries that I love so much are probably reliant on enthusiasts paying a little, or a lot, extra. PC 10 is my favourite affordable whisky… the 18yr? I just can’t justify its price, no matter if, in today’s market, it’s relatively “OK”. I can’t make the finger-quotation marks hard enough 😅

Agreed.

Great video It is depressing you are correct. But it’s the industry who have chosen to make it depressing. Here in Australia, you’d think it was Walt Disney setting the price for some of these labels. They are completely La-La-Land numbers. My opinion is leave them on the shelf Be braver; Take a punt on lessor known labels usually higher ABV ( than the majors) none chilled filters, and no caramel added Also, give some Irish labels ago. Still value to be found there.

People make a lot of mistakes if they have FOMO! It’s an inner insecurity. I don’t worry about missing out on alcohol. This scotch is overpriced in Canada. Cheers.

Great point. That definitely applies to me, but I have been getting better recently.
