I'm from Ecuador, I got one bottle of Gold Label and I really loved it. It's so tasty, balanced, good in nose and even better in mouth. If you find reviews of this whisky in Spanish everybody says that is a very simple, overvalued etc, in general they said that is a bad whisky, but my nose and my mouth says the opposite. Now I'm looking this review and feel happy 'cause there is someone who appreciates this one so much as me. And Mr Luening seems to be an expert in the field.

I just bought a Gold Label bottle for the first time. I actually bought it because I couldn't find a Green Label. But this Gold Label is superbe!! Very very smooth. Very tasty. I'm not someone who recognizes different flavours in a whisky, I can only say if it's good or not. But this Gold label is really delicious. I drank a Blue label, about 10 years ago, and that was even better but it's too expensive now. This Gold label is perfect.

Blue label is something to try once at a bar (in my case £15 a single) and then realise it's fairly overhyped. Very smooth, long and pleasant aftertaste, but lacking much complexity of taste. Good, but definitely not worth the ridiculous prices Blue label sells for now. I wonder if Gold label is superior value.

You are a bit late to the game, when brands are just watering down most blends and entry level single malts. You are also experiencing some genetically modified corn and grains, something that wasn't present in the 80s. So you will need to spend [a lot more] money to experience a genuine whisky. For example, right now I’m drinking the same Gold Label Reserve of the review, but 6 years later. Which means, I’m certainly drinking a dumbed down version of the same drink. Honestly, it has a decent taste, but I rather be drinking Jameson (half the price), which by the way changed in the last month (the box also changed) and is way worse than before. Note that I'm in Brazil, so we might be getting different versions of the same drink. In other words, watch out for industrial batches and versions, which are just a glorified cocktail, not real whisky.

Personally I stick to Lagavulin, but upon his recommendation, I bought a bottle for myself and enjoyed it! Horst just verified everything I liked about it. Such a great reviewer! Once I was in a bar in Odessa/Ukraine. Actually, I'm often in a bar in Odessa, anyway that's not the point. One night, a guy at his mid fourties asked a double Gold Label. And when the bartender asked whether he prefers ice, he was really annoyed and said 'First of all, I'm russian, what ice you're talking about? Second, if was gonna drink a whisky with ice, I'd pick a cheaper one, you think I'm an idiot?', I don't know why but that's a memory that I never forget.

Just bought a bottle of this. It's so smooth and tasty. The nose is phenomenal. It's definitely now on my must-have on hand scotch whiskeys, one I will serve to friends and family new to drinking whiskies. The value here is off the charts. I own scotch 10 times the price I have enjoyed less! So so tasty!!

I've never tried this one, but about 7 or 8 years ago I had the Gold Label when it was still the 18-year-old. I was still fairly inexperienced at that time, so I did what the package said to do, which was to keep it in the freezer and then drink it neat while it hovered around the freezing point. I know some people would say that's dumb to do, but to be honest, it really did taste excellent. It was very sweet and creamy and quite enjoyable - a very much different experience from tasting a single malt. I considered it a 'desert whiskey.' Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with some variety in your tasting experiences, and so if you pick up a bottle of this Gold Label reserve, maybe give that a try and see what happens.

I think that’s a good decision. Green Label is a 15 year blended malt, 43% and highly regarded

I'm intrigued by this and the Green Label, so did a search to see if Johnnie Walker sell any taster kits. Unfortunately the only one I could find was one that (for some reason) also had Blue, and was therefore going for upwards of £90(!). Suppose I'll just have to hope to see them in a bar sometime.

Green is probably the best...it gives you everything the JW brand seems to be trying to offer, it's crisp, has a nice balance, and is reasonably priced. Red is horrible, black is lackluster, platinum/18 year has a funny taste. I haven't had gold or blue, but I hear that blue is over-rated and gold is nothing special.

Wow not sure if the price went down or it's more expensive there. 750ml Gold label in the Philippines is around 22 euros. 33 euros for the 700ml green label. 25 euros for a 700ml Singleton Dufftown and 26 euros for a 750ml Glenlivet12yo

I had to take note of every gesture the way he sips, takes a second sip or not... sometimes the way he pours carefully so as not to pour so much because he knew he might not like it then actually finishes the whole glass or pours much but only takes the first sip. So when buying a new bottle for me, it’s tough because I cannot afford those bottles that he actually finishes til the last drop.

+maciej wrotek Whiskey like all spirits (Brandy, Vodka etc) does not deteriorate in the bottle. It may evaporate gradually which is a great shame for this to happen to a good whiskey. Neither does it improve. A Old label Reserve today will taste the same today as in 30 yrs time....just less of it

I have had king george the fifth, I found it to be very similar to blue label, but with a tad more peat and it was slightly more pungent. I look forward to your review of platinum, I have often wondered if its worth if 150 dollar price tag.

Gaurav Thapar Gaurav never try neat with less refined whiskey, it may cause harm. However with Black Label and above and especially Gold Label you try it neat you will surely enjoy with no such fire in stomach 😋😉

Sound advice there from Eagle Man, buying on Amazon can be a minefield. Whiskies like the Johnnie Walker variants often don't come with the relevant box, and if you look at the reviews for Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Rye, many people have been sent normal Jim Beam Rye.

I'm not a big fan of J.W. Especially the more expensive bottles. They are hugely overpriced. And with excessive marketing they make you believe you have top quality one of a kind product. But the green label is the best in my opinion. And it's a blend of single malts only! No grain whisky involved here. Cheers from the Netherlands

Green label is a blended malt, its 100% malt whisky and its 15 yo. This one has no age statement and is a blend, so it has grain whisky. I would always go green. Even though i only had platinum, gold, black and red, now that i know i would go green even against blue.

The original gold label 18 year is better that green in my opinion, very fruity and the Clynelish stands out... But the 15 year blended malt is amazing in its own right and at its price point... It has a nice fruity sweetness from the Linkwood and Cragganmore as well as nice light peat smoke from the Talisker and Caol Ila... 😋

I drinkand love copious amounts of Johnny Walker Black; But Blue and Gold Label and King George Private Reserve has the best reputation from wise elder whisky wizards like this kindly gentleman; and I recommend them; and I recommend a corporate tie-in with Connor McGregor's UFC comeback(the King George Reserve and the same for Porsche racing;) fuse or couple Johnny Walker Blue with Ford Racing and other more accessible products and personalities/athletes/celebrities, etc.

I tried both, depends on your taste. Green label is for people that like smoky/peaty whiskies whereas gold label is more caramely/smooth. I think the gold label reserve is delicious but it comes at a price, however when it comes to value/price I believe the green label is the way to go.

Flying Dutchman Perfectly acceptable to add a little water. Even the Scots call that “releasing the serpents.” Separates the alcohols from the esters which then opens up the bouquet and taste. ;)
