Good topic Gert with not one clear cut answer. My aim is to finish off my open bottles (the simpler ones), finish off most of my samples and buy only the whiskies I'm super super excited about. My advice to people, if they can, be members of whisky clubs. Thanks to my whisky club we can taste 5-6 different whiskies in one sitting and make informed decisions whether we'd purchase the full bottles or not and also we buy expensive bottles as a group of 10 which really eases the sting. For 2025 I did a bucket list a 50 good bottles and I'm gonna buy whatever is on sale for a good price when I can throughout the year. I think I started this year well with Longmorn 16 and Jameson 18. We will see what next month will bring cheers! 🥂

Not sure, really. I was planning on focussing a bit more on the IB market this year, but other than that, we'll see. I ignore silly stuff like dry January and such, so it's all up to interest and storage space. 😁

I am going to buy 7 bottles in February. I have no desire to procure bottles during dry January. I don't like to add to my already large collection when I am not drinking. Overall, probably a bit less than last year.

I have about 120+ bottles and I only buy what I really want. The last few years I have bought between 12 to 20 bottles. For me it depends on what whiskyrelease it is and from who. Cheers from sweden.

@@benzabenza2743 Appreciate your feedback. Agree, I need to buy less this year. There is no way that I will be able to drink everything in my collection. I now give all my friends samples just to clear some space.

i'm ticked off so going to vent a bit. i lit another 30 bucks on fire yesterday trying to be thrifty. and it was even a bottle that was one of my favorites last year, but has definitely dropped off a cliff in quality this new batch. naked grouse blended malt, it even had some good reviews from other youtubers in the past. it used to have an inviting nose and palate of malt and sweet sherry. but now it is borderline undrinkable, just bland cardboard with nothing interesting about it. i know both versions were colored but even the older one was more natural looking lighter almost pink color, and now is dark amber fake tan. i am perfectly happy drinking mediocre whisky, because i just had a cheap buchanans at a bar, it was boring but not bad. i dont have a high standard for cheap whisky, but when they cant even be consistently average, and have to essentially dump some of them straight down the drain, the risk is no longer budget savings then, so i am officially done forever getting anything that doesnt try to be a craft spirit

@@_fwd_racecar_ rant away mate. There are still some good whisky out there. I definitely can relate to buying something that so many people love and when I buy it I realise it’s not that good. I find Arran 10 was always a good option for me. And it is about €37 here.

@@WhiskyLoversSociety yah arran10 was one of my favorites, cant get that here anymore, but the quarter cask for 80bucks is a deal for something cask strength, so is on the list whenever i save up enough again

defenitely less, my whisky cabinet is nearly full, ill try to finish some bottles (prob 2-3, since i dont drink alot) and then replace them only with some good personal must haves that occur.

I will buy less. I have so many open bottles, so unless there’s something special I will reach for something I have instead of trying something new. That said, I just picked up a Loch Gorm 2024 today, and I’m waiting for Ardnamurchan 10. Going forward I will at least try to stay away from the silly priced brands/bottles and focus on good value stuff 😊

Everything is killing the budget in Norway 😂 Bottles like Lagavulin 16 have gone from less than €80 to more than €120 in less than a year. Ardbeg have all these silly overpriced releases and so on. I’ll much rather buy a good bottle of well crafted whisky for half the price of the “special price” silly-name-releases or something I really love 😊

Important topic, and I know I didn't answer to the poll, lol, maybe feeling already guilty of being too FOMO-esque lately (& you're right, there is also a FOMO a good video review, but not at the point that, like some people I heard, would buy a bottle I absolutely not feel being for me just for the sake of doing a surely successful clickbaity review...), partly with the excuse of getting the most possible of the bottles of my Top 10 Whiskies of the year when it was possible & this with my end of 2024 salary bonus...I'm now kinda slowing down, but, that said, because of a generous unexpected shop tasting lately, I'm gonna be "obliged" next month to almost break a personal record for a bottle that blew my mind in a few seconds & left me dreaming all evening & night of it (more later on !), for just a shy of 200€, but after that, I should stop for a moment as I have to finish some bottles too (&samples !) & review them before they disappear...I have finished some lately but not much advertise it, especially when the bottles where not great, and, unlike Roy, I cannot keep a dozen of empty bottles home & also record a video in my courtyard which is shared with other people & it is dangerous as I could also receive something on my head while recording, mind you...Cheers !

Buying whisky was a hobby . . . like sports gambling but less risky ; I will buy less, MUCH MuCH less . . . I consider Scotch as "petit luxe" for occasional buying.
