I’m in California.. no way I can carry a firearm easily and I’d probably goto prison even if I used for self defense. Mace I have and carry for sure. But.. it’s the little ones you get off Amazon. Lasts ten seconds and shoots only ten feet.. not really helpful more a lot sitch thing. Bear Mace is where it’s at in terms of results versus legality. It can take down three grown men with one blast, giving you plenty of time to dip and gtfo of there. Last last resort is I always have my 4” folding knife hidden in front waistline, 3.5” fixed blade hanging on back of belt. I’m not worried about animals when I hike or camp, humans are what I fear out there. In northern CA when a parolee or someone on the run has run out of places.. they go into the woods. And to survive they rob and steal and sometimes kill hikers. Like Kurt Cobain said “just because you’re paranoid don’t mean they’re not after you.” Stay ready

I literally search for the scary stories that involve violent and scary humans in the woods.. that shit makes my skin crawl. Some kids seeing a girl in a black dress with long black hair standing there.. Christ, that wasn’t even scary when I saw it in The Ring 25 years ago. That first story here was the best. Being out alone.. trying to get as secluded as possible and having a great time.. only to realize someone followed you the whole way and waited til dead of night to creep in on you.. that’s a fuckin story. That would make anyone’s hair stand.

If there's anything I've learned about these camping alone in the deep woods stories, its A) don't go camping alone B) bring a friend with a handgun. Finding a random person in the middle of nowhere, where you should be alone, is pretty damn terrifying. Who knows what they're capable of when they're outside of society.

@@aregul12 I don't own any personally, but I'm inclined to get a long gun or shotty at the least after hearing a bunch of these camping alone/home invasion/etc stories. I have a few friends with some heat, but they're not generally gun nuts. There is at least one dude who's got an arsenal that I would consider a nut, but he's more of an acquaintance. Dude's got so much that he was like I've got to offload one or two of my really nice pieces to get funds for a down payment on a house type of arsenal. I still remember the time my buddy went out and bought a shotgun after a black bear basically Kool-Aid Man'd his back door down. He was renting a house up a mountain in the middle of the woods at the time. I should also mention the back door was essentially the rear wall of his room. I'm pretty sure he was elsewhere in the house at the time and was able to scare it off. Luckily one of his roommates and our fellow coworker was a gun nut (not the same guy as mentioned above) and he had some firepower in the house, but as far as this encounter nothing got used. That reminds me, missed opportunity. That house was about a mile from one of the old Nike missile defense bunkers in the middle of the woods on top of this mountain (look up the Nike missile defense program if you're unaware, all over the eastern seaboard). We were supposed to take a hike out there a few times but I think we just smoked a bunch of bongs and watched comedy specials instead... like every time we were supposed to do it.

@@denisberte778 I respect your service man, wasn't exactly thinking about that type of individual being run into when making my comment but that checks out. If you are that person, then you probably don't have much to worry about. The comment was related to how all these stories have helpless people in bad situations in the middle of nowhere without protection against the unhinged whoever. I use the term "gun nut" as shorthand for someone that has more than a handful of firearms and who takes the hobby seriously. It was attempting to distinguish from a casual gun owner, the type that just has one for protection and doesn't invest a lot of time into it.

Make sure your best friends is Mr. SMITH and WESSON or Mr. COLT. have a super bright LED spot light or flashlight. I have both. A 6,000 spotlight can light up nearby and reach 100 yards. A 6,000 flashlight usually has a strobe feature that can flashblind people up close. Lights up everything too. Carry a large caliber firearm. .45 auto, .44 magnum, .357 magnum, 10mm, or if you're car or truck camping, toss in a short barreled 12 gauge shotgun. 00 buck and sabot slugs will put bigfoot on his ass. It will put a serial killer on his ass. Keep that handgun loaded and on your belt at all times. Keep a large camp knife for camp chores, splitting firewood, making a feather stick, chopping branches, and as a good close quarters weapon. A tomahawk works great to. Chop firewood, chopping branches, the spike end is great for breaking up dirt to dig a fireplace or potty hole, hammering tent pegs with the flat side, and makes an awesome close quarters weapon. Carry a large multi tool. Carry 2 or 3 coils of paracord. 3 or 4 new Bic lighters. Much more efficient than twirling sticks. A cigar lighter is even better. It fires up with a nice torch to ignite kindling very quickly.

I'm sort of paranoid. I live in a very gun friendly state where candidates for office brag about their NRA endorsements and show commercials with them shooting or fondling a gun. I have a CCW even though my state has constitutional carry. The CCW is really to cover me in the 37 states that honor my CCW. I pack heat if I go out at night to the store or to the ATM. A large LED flashlight to check and make sure no one is hiding in the bushes or behind a car. I have guns stashed in my house so I can get to one easily. If I go I to the woods. I make sure I am armed.

that man setting up camp near yours, reminds me of some thing that happened to me and my family out for a day at a local lake/park during the week when I was on vacation. We planned on going to have the place all to ourselves. After we set up the picnic table cloth on the park picnic table of which there were probably more than 100 in this meadow we were in. A car pulled in, it was a small family. mom, dad and two kids. They set up their picnic at the table beside ours 20 feet away. They had the whole park to set up in and they chose right next to us. this park was gigantic, it had over 100 miles of shoreline on the lake, Lake Arthur about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh PA. The park is a state park and it covers hundreds and hundreds of acres, and these people had to set up right next to us.. that also reminds me of every time I buy a new vehicle, which is not too often, my wife makes fun of me because I will park hundreds of feet away from other cars at times to avoid door dents.. I can’t tell you how many times we come out of the restaurant or the store and there will be somebody parked right next to me in that deserted end of the parking lot I usually choose. Jordans are not something to take lightly. My son borrowed my relatively new 4 x 4 pick up to go camping. He put about a 2 inch scratch in the door when he was loading up his tent. He said he completely ruined his vacation because he put the first scratch on dad‘s new truck. I didn’t even get slightly upset when he told me after he returns my truck a week later. I told him don’t worry about it, just have it fixed The estimate back in 2009 when this happened was $2200. That was a friends price. I called a guy I know that has been in the autobody business for decades. I asked him if that sounds about right. He said, absolutely, he hast to shoot the whole side of the car for the paint to match. so if anybody ever dents your car with their door.. be nice, but make a video of them giving you their name and take a picture of their drivers license and their insurance card, and get them admitting that it was 100% their fault, but don’t tell them how much it’s gonna cost to repair or they will start denying it.. it can even cost more than $2000 if the car has pearl white paint. I doubt that any reasonably priced auto body shop can perfectly match pearl white, especially if the car is a few years old…

There's a psychology behind it. My ex husband had a store and I would stop in sometimes and hang out. Well, a few times I'd start looking at stuff on the shelves and customers thought I was a customer and they would always come over and start looking at the stuff I was intently interested in and looking at. I guess they thought I had something really good and they don't want to miss it so they want to see and grab it too. I think when people park next to you they may think if you've got a nice car they want their car parked next to a (or another) good looking car or that you've got a good spot so if they park there then they're in a good area of the parking lot as well. Or they may think it's good to park next to another lone car.

If I saw someone putting up a tent in such bad shape it wouldn’t keep the elements out I would be questioning their mental health. A person who is mentally well or stable would not go camping with a tent in such poor condition. A person who is in dire straits would try to find a way to do repairs to protect themselves from rain or snow. 🤷‍♀️

Not sure if any these stories are true, but my neighbor and her boyfriend was camping at a public campground here in ohio. Both were shot and killed. Dont know if there was a reason. I think it was just random. They got the dude who did it, thankfully.

I I like both, I keep a Glock 40 wherever I go But the 870 with a /4 inch barrel I don’t have to aim if I’m in a rush just point in the general direction it will do the trick😊

For your own personal safety have a weapon to defend yourself when camping/hiking like an 8" survivor knife, stun gun, mace, and machete, I added a Bruni New Police 9mm Pak blank pistol (very loud) and a .50 cal Umarex TR50 Paintball Revolver paintball airgun to my RV/ camping arsenal. Both are non-lethal and each is under $100. I also added a solar motion sensor LED lights and have an intruder alert. Remember even if you do not have a gun you can bluff "Go away I am armed with a gun.".Also, buy some M80 firecrackers when you hear weird noises or footsteps outside your tent light one up, and throw it out the window after the big bang you will scare most critters away.

NEVER go backwood camping without a WEAPON at least an 8" hunting knife/machete/axe, the flare gun that can be used defensively, pepper spray, a firearm, and a boat horn. It is also a great idea to have a BIG DOG for additional protection.

enjoy the outdoors avoid wild life and should something approach that doesn't seem like it's friendly well pack up and get out of there really fast but don't freak out should you hear any banging noises in the distance it might just be all in your head possibly .
