DemocracyNow.org - Days after he was sentenced to 30 months in prison, John Kiriakou -- the first CIA official to be jailed for any reason relating to the torture program -- denounces President Obama's appointment of John Brennan to head the CIA. "I've known John Brennan since 1990," Kiriakou says. "I worked directly for John Brennan twice. I think that he is a terrible choice to lead the CIA. I think that it's time for the CIA to move beyond the ugliness of the post-September 11th regime. We need someone who is going to respect the Constitution and not be bogged down by a legacy of torture."

I'm really glad your wife is supporting you firmly here. Bravo John. You are a patriot!! I'm not American. I'm someone who has always looked to America as a place that we should all aspire to. This place is not the American I have always respected.

That's why the U.S. is not a Democracy. Our founders knew exactly as you stated. The Majority does not have the right to abuse the minority. That's why they created a Republic. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. - Winston Churchill

You're describing the flawed "ticking time bomb" scenario. Basically you're constructing an unrealistic scenario designed to get a reasonable person to endorse using torture in that circumstance...and then fallaciously concluding that torture is a legitimate methodology/policy based on that context-specific endorsement. Most people would do a lot of things if they were 100% SURE that it would save a bunch of children. That’s not reality though.

Just when I thought I couldn't hate Obama and our government anymore. We need radical revolution in the USA to change our destructive path to a productive one. John Kiriakou is an American hero.

Would you support torture if it meant that more US soldiers/civilians would be tortured? What if you were 30% certain you had the right guy? Or 10% certain there was a bomb? Or 50% certain he even had the information you wanted? What if you had to hurt his wife to get him to talk? Outside of 24 there would always be that ugly moral trade off.
